Can't we say' sodium chlorine 'instead of 'sodium chloride'? If not why?
Sodium is sodium ,magnesium is magnesium, oxygen is oxide etc

I think, solium chlorine will not convey the meaning of a compound, instead, it might represent two individual elements, sodium and chlorine.

It is because compounds negatively charge means it has gained atoms so it have to loose something and that is its name so they get added the ide after name

so in formula sodium chloride,
Chloride is used to represent ion of chlorine chemically bonded to ion of sodium containg positive charge
And as sir said that chlorine would be element itself not chemically bonded to any other atom
