Steve, I'm grateful for the warranted criticism and kind words as well. If anything, I hope my comfortability with my ignorance and novice level of experience comes across in my content. I'm very new to reading and have no shame in admitting that, which might explain why my library isn't stockpiled with female authors, but that's more of an accident rather than due to misogynistic intentions. Austen, Plath, and Arendt grace my shelves and I hope to add far more beyond that of course. I'll argue you with about IJ, but two copies is cause for pause and DFW readers often carry an air of pomposity so fair point there! Love your authenticity and content! I'll earnestly work to grow as a reader and thinker....and I promise I won't get a third copy of IJ
Wonderful video, I must admit I have a beautiful dictionary from the 1920's. I tend to use it when reading classics, it has those fabulous now rarely used words. I've just started to review the books I read, especially non-fiction, and I will definitely take the tip of paraphrasing.
I would like to hear your ideas about some hard books which you believe are both hard and worthwhile. Perhaps you could discuss why you think they are hard and what makes them wortwhile.
Oh dear. One of the best locations to film videos in my library has a copy of Infinite Jest in the background. I’m not willing to forgo alphabetical order by author to prevent this. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I’m not sure I want to invest time in the watching the bros.
At first i was irritated by the "visible copy of Infinite Jest" remark, bit this guy is next level. He doesnt have A copy of Infinite Jest: he has one copy of IJ resting on a second copy of IJ.
Haha a very fair concern over the state of my sanity! Although IJ and DFW isn't for everyone, I'm a fan of his work and felt a hardcover deserved a spot on the shelf
In glad you gave that kid a break. Honestly, I didn’t detect anything exceptional about the cadence or emphasis in his speech. And the ring was not THAT obnoxious. The soft focus in the background thing, I mean, it’s just a setting. You can learn the lighting tricks without much effort. He wants to be visually appealing. Nothing too sinful about that. And as for the actual information, I wonder… I’m going to go check. I bet he’s Canadian.
How interesting that he broke the dudebro mold a bit. Since he mentioned Goodreads, I looked at his linked account. He has (gasp) read two books by women this year. Maybe he's taking a class and had no choice.
Love female authors! I promise it's due to a brevity of reading experience and from any ill intent. Let me know some of your favorite works from female authors and I'll get them added to my TBR
Hello Steve. I watched the guy’s video and I doubt that he reads the books that I do. I doubt that he has read romance books. I am not going to sit and read a romance book I’m enjoying with a dictionary. I’m also not going to write notes 📝 on the romance book I’m reading. I would rather watch Sara of The Bookish Knitter talk about books and her daily life.

Blast it all, must you be so kind and good-natured??? Hah! You're making it impossible to attack you, DFW or no DFW!
Wildly, he’s just talked about both Sylvia Plath and Jane Austen! I put those videos on my list to watch this evening.
How to become a better reader:
1- get a book
2- open the book
3- read the book
This was charming when I was hoping for vicious. Hmph. :)
Hee - I know! Sorry!

You Turned me on to the SPQR books a while ago and I got my dad into them,
reading a book with the expectation that you have to talk about it or write about it really does improve reading.
How to become a better reader.....pretty easy....read what Steve Reads!
I went over to the link, two copies of the Infinite Jest...that is worrying....

Hee - to put it mildly, I'm not worried about you being a Dudebro!
what kind of rings do brotubers wear and what's the significance? I didn't understand what you were saying or maybe the reference went over my head.
A Damascene conversion to Browatch channels?
Hah! Noooooooo!
I do love a print dictionary.

@@TheActiveMind1 I am also a fan but Steve has also razzed me for having a visible copy of IJ in my videos. welcome to the club!
At “IN depth” I started cackling up!
I told my brother about bro watch. He said book bros must be like crypto bros.

Steve he has not one but two copies of Infinite Jest!
I saw! But ... but his advice is very good! Plus, as you can see in these Comments, he's genuinely nice! My BroWatch bloodletting is in CHAOS!
What a twist!! Have you seen The Critical Drinker's video "How To Write A Book"? I think it warrants analysis from our dear bro watcher.
Dare I take on the Critical Drinker???
I miss Donoghue does Decor
Duly noted!
Hell has in fact frozen over.
So you think The Active Mind is less "What do women write?" and more "What!? Do women write?"
I watched his video of the best books he read last year not a woman writer in sight, more Nietzsche, Camus and of course The Infinite Jest.
He's definitely a "read philosophy" kind of guy but, a month ago, he did review Pride and Prejudice so he does know that women write books (grin).

Baywatch is the second greatest show in the world... Browatch is the first!
Hah! Not THIS episode! People come to BroWatch for GORE!
@@saintdonoghue Yes! This wasn't a good example. I must confess that I'm disappointed... Was expecting a ranty, gory and merciless video.
I'll be very concerned if by tomorrow you're posting videos praising philosophy books.
How…dare you find something good in this. For shaaaaaammme…
But it's all good advice! I'm as slapped as anybody!
