    Dude,
    Consider orienting your bed with your feet at the bulkhead and head near the water tank.
    Why?
    Your digestion benefits and the slight upwards incline mitigates against acid reflux (after heavy drinking). Just me on this point!
    Narrowboats are not always level unless and only while the water and fuel tanks are full.
    As the water tank empties, the bow rises. The stern is usually lower because of the large fuel tank being kept full.
    Therefore, when your head is near the bow, it will be elevated ever so slightly because the bow of a NB is usually up some and the stern is down some off level.
    Doing this orientation necessititates wiring in reading lights near the water tank and walls.
    Just a thought for your consideration... cheers!

    Thanks for sharing James. Looking good. Don't forget to cover the engine bay to stop snow or rain getting in. Stay safe

    Might be worth investing in a pump you put in the chuck of your drill , they are cheap and you just put a bit of pipe either side , then you ain't as limited .
    Great place to sit up the front , looks comfy , little drop down shelf off the wall for laptops , coffee etc 👍.

    I bet Paul has a power washer for the roof. Tarp for the stern. I’m sure there are a few bricks around to hold the tarp down. Your moving right along as always

    With your carpentry skills I would imagine that a basic frame with a tarpaulin over the stern deck would be an easy job and be useful storage. You could crack out that Canadian Lumber Standard!

    Hi James. Loving the journey and thanks for sharing. Can I put in my two penneth? Re the roof, you won't be able to paint until the spring so why not just clean it off and fit the panels when you get them. They are pretty easy to take off later when you paint.(on the cut). I believe you would do better to purchase brand new batteries at the same time. It will save you alot of time and angst. I think your timetable is quite ambitious and although setting goals is good you want achievable realistic ones otherwise you can get discouraged. I would cover over the stern to prevent further water ingress to the bulge and concentrate on the engine, stern gland, gas lockers and flooring etc. Try and finish the bed area and then move on to the bathroom when parts do arrive. Get some basic wiring installed in the boat so you have some light and power on the cut. Sorry this is not criticism just constructive advice to encourage you to keep going. It's a long slog but you are moving forward at least. Finally Happy New Year mate and thanks again for sharing. Regards Col.

    I have the whale sub pump on my boat. It works well if installed as per the instructions. The angle it sits at is critical, throw out the black rubber one way valve, they always cause trouble. Some water will run back when the pump is finished, just keep the pipe run short so it does not reactivate the pump into an endless cycle. Mount the pump on to a piece of steel plate so you can access it to clean it. Cruiser sterns always have some water floating around that the bilge pump will not clear, that's just the way it is.🎶🤔

    Another great vid James, she is starting to come together mate, just an idea, look up a TH-cam channel called Journey With Jono, he fitted out a narrowboat and lived n it with his dog, I think he works for Victron now who make excellent inverters, soar etc for boats, good wealth of knowledge there

    James, in pharmacies/chemists, somewhere around the diaper and/or feminine hygiene products sections, they will sell sheets of, basically, the material that the absorbent pads of diapers are made of that are 2 by 3 feet ish. Used under patients in bed, sort of thing. No matter *what* stuff is leaking out of you. My local discount chemist they sell own brand 5 for 2 quid or so. And that stuff *should* be exceptionally good for mopping up last little bits of an engine bay. Specifically because it doesn’t just get the water, but also, like, the oily bits.

    Hello James, your whale pump should do the business,do you have a three way switch for it?(manual, off ,automatic) it should empty your engine bay bilge down to a depth of a couple cm’s. If you wait till you are on the water before you fix the b.pump permanently,you will be able to see were the water collects,ie the lowest point of your bilge in relation to the actual waterline.James thanks for your videos they are a great ,a source of inspiration,like you I’m very interested in boats,i live on a sail boat .

    In the engine bay: Just drill a hole in the bottom to let the crud and water drain, have Paul weld it up when you're ready to launch.

    Got me thinking James what you need is a flexor water holder so you can put it Lowe into the bilge area , then fill it and lift it out

  • @put301

    Put your out let pipe through the stern gland hole. You could even set a siphon going through same hole

    Get a packet of baby nappies cut the elastic bit so they lay flat and they will soak up any fluid you can’t get up easily ... a lot cleaner than sponges etc .. just my thoughts ... bilge pump an automatic one is good ... ours goes off every 2 mins and switches off if not required but pumps out any bilge if found die#nt switch off until no water left to pump..

  • @brianrees3697
    @brianrees3697 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My bilge pump when it stops sucking up water pours about a litre back in when I have switched it off, just an idea that I use I have a small washing up bowl exactly the same as yours, and place it under the stern gland so any drips going into it and all I have to do is lift it out and pour it over the side by doing that it also keeps that area dry hope that helps

    I think that 3rd 'wand' pump would be best if it had an 12V wired electric pump to give it a bit more power, not just batteries.

    It's really coming along now. Are you on track to get all your services- water, fuel, gas and electric - installed and boat sufficiently prepared for the surveyor to issue your safety certificate to allow you to be insured and obtain a CRT registration within your timescale for putting it into the waterl?

  • @michaelburns6197
    @michaelburns6197 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You mentioned that the wires on one the bilge pumps were stiff which suggests they one solid copper strand. That's surprising as multistrand wire is recommended on boats as it is more resistant to vibration and where else would you use a bilge pump.

    James if you really wanted to paint the roof you could use plasic sheeting maing a tent weighing it down with 4 x 2 wood struts over the handle bars down the side of the boat ? and maybe even light the fire inside for a bit of heat ? just a though ....... BBbbbrrrr a bit parky out there though cheers

    Nice one James. Good heads-up re the small diameter battery-powered water-pump. I think I’ll get one and knock up a regulator / voltage dropper so it can be run off 12-volts as well if need be… now where did I put my soldering iron!!

    Narrow boat Experience" have the best vlog on fitting solar panels
    Massive undertaking James good luck to you
    Babies nappies get rid of your water in the engine bay.
    Cruiser Stern's suffer from rain water running down your gunwhale into engine bay. To prevent this weld rods at angles on your gunwhale to deflect rain water into the canal.

    Oh James! Hugely admire you’re enthusiasm BUT .... you can’t continue to randomly jump from job to job without finishing them!! To recap, no electrics, plumbing, heating, cooking or washing/showering or sleeping facilities and you are putting the boat in the water in a couple of weeks! I’m frustrated for you, focus and finish!!
