Ok so here was my challenging for a newbie like me. I did not know you were holding deselect (CTRL + D) before clicking on the letters which gave me that option to get it better. Rasturize it then hold it before pressing back on the letter again. Then thats how you got what you got lol hope i made sense, i was wondering what the hell i was doing wrong but i made it now :) took me like 2 hours to figure and watching you closely

Hold Ctrl + D all the time and click to "rasterize the layer style" while you hold Ctrl + D. You will see a small square instead of the mouse. I hope it helps you
I just dont understand in 5:25 how you can select both layers and choose add layer mask button. I also try it with ctrl+d and selecting both layers, but then i am not allowed to click on add layer mask :S I am searching for a solution about an hour, but i cannot find any solutions... :S
turn the copy of the layer in a smart object and then press ctrl + d to make the selection and paste in the layer mask. Hope that solved your problem brother
