You know what Phill, Sandwell needs a museum of the history of the area, industrial & manufacturing sites we once had. Some of these old building should be set aside with pictures of people who worked here over the ages and all kinds of stuff like bundiclock, & old machinery that is no longer used.
How right you are wbrom was one of the main drivers of the industrial revolution whether for good or bad the town ought to be remembered for the powerhouse it once was. Individual memories are fast disappearing so a museum of sorts would perpetuate those memories many thanks
My dad talks of when he a young man in the late fifties, saying that there were seventeen pubs on spon lane before it was split into two, and the challenge was to go up one side and back down the other in one evening, drinking a half pint in all of them
I was doing a survey for Archie bald Kendrick.The main entrance was unbelievable To be fair it was unbelievable.I know it's boarded but if you every get the chance go inside for a visit.I watch your channel twice a day.Please keep them coming.Thanks

My dad used to work in chance brothers glassworks in Smethwick, I’m sure he used to make drinking glasses. I never knew where it was situated though, thanks Phil.
There were 2 other pubs not mentioned on this video, The White Swan and The Greyhound. But because the new layout of spon lane east its made it almost impossible to determine where they were.

Chances glass manufactured glass for lighthouses worldwide Still today in Maine USA the glass is still in place. That's building is the school for chances .

My grandad worked at chances , he used to bring me glass marbles when I was a nipper

My Mom used to live in Spon Lane when my Mom was a child with my Nan and Granddad

My dad worked at Chances right up until the factory closed. Some great memories there Phil. A shame some of these buildings aren’t made heritage.
I didn’t know there was a blue plaque or a memorial plaque on Chance House.
Amazing but hidden.
The archibald kenrick building is in fact Grade 2 listed so it will be standing for some time yet

They moved the plant abroad like the others in the 70s
