  • Update: Newer test. • [ Genshin Impact ] RX ...
    Just a basic small test on performance comparison between the two operating systems my desktop is running on. Not a measure for general performance independent from individual POV, your mileage may vary (tm).
    Extra notes: the RTSS overlay was unable to read the GPU's power output during the test. In GPU-Z this parameter is detected, but I did not have it open during the Windows side of the test.

    There's an updated test here:

    Interesting to see: CPU usage in Linux is notably lower.

      I have since updated this test with a newer one which also shows FPS differences with an unlocked frame rate, and my CPU also running at its intended performance level (this has Intel Turboboost disabled due to the stock cooler not being able to take it, I have been given a new cooler to work with since). Will add the link on the description, forgot to do it.

    nice video, is your monitor 2k? if so makes one at 2k next 🙏

    • @t.hitoshi
      @t.hitoshi  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      To answer this: No. The only reason I uploaded this at 2k is to avoid TH-cam's butchering of 1080p. Original video is actually 1080p, so this was upscaled.
      TH-cam's video quality at 1080p if you're not a premium user is shit. Otherwise my native resolution is 1080p but well, as mentioned, 1080p quality on TH-cam is something you DON'T want to bother with if you don't have premium.

    Will it run on linux mint. I do have a mobile running this but it's laggy. Will i be getting ban in the future? Chances of getting ban?

    • @t.hitoshi

      Mobile as in mobile phone?
      Be it on Linux Mint or any other distro, it depends on your hardware. Because DXVK is basically a translation layer for DirectX calls some overhead is to be expected on your GPU therefore expect performance hits on that.
      Linux Mint tends to be based on latest Ubuntu versions as far as i recall therefore they may not have the latest kernel and drivers necessary for more bleeding edge hardware (e.g. running RDNA3 AMD GPUs), but if you know your way around software repositories you can work with that.
      Regarding bans... That's a long story to unravel, but the gist of it is that I have been streaming the game almost exclusively on my linux system. I have never been banned since I started playing in Linux from Genshin v3.8 onwards.
      So best to say chances are nil just for playing on linux. We're on our own mostly, though.

    Ive heard bout getting banned whilest playing in linux? Should i worry?

    • @t.hitoshi
      @t.hitoshi  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That is a very grossly oversimplified misunderstanding and misses the actual account of what happened.
      The bans you're referring to would be a mass banwave that happened in Honkai Star Rail back in 1.0~1.1. What happened was there's a massive banwave that affected not just Linux users but a good portion of the playerbase as well. Since there were quite a number of reports from players playing it on Linux, there was a suspicion that the bans happened *because* of playing in Linux and not because of Hoyoverse's mistake.
      There are Genshin players who have been playing in Linux since Genshin's Day 1 and has not been banned ever since, and in a few patches before Fontaine was released, players have been reporting they are able to get the game to work without any tinkering, i.e. it launches the same way you'd expect on Windows.
      Useful notes on the "ban on Linux because Linux?" situation:

      I frequently stream Genshin these days as means to showcase the "Yeah I'm totally running it on a Not-Windows Not-Mac OS" part. Granted I would love a new GPU to further play and stream the game better, but my hardware as it is right now does quite enough for me. Access to the AV1 hardware encoder on an RX 7000 series card would be ideal, but as I am right now I cannot afford any new hardware.

    Rx 580 8gb Ordinary type with rx 580 8gb 2048sp Which one is stronger?

    • @t.hitoshi
      @t.hitoshi  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The non-2048SP one should be the better card when benchmarked against each other. The 2048SP is originally a China-only SKU and on paper would be actually closer to the RX 570 - or rather, *should* just be addressed as such. I got mine from a local private reseller who somehow has a stock of said graphics cards.
      As it is, it's a card that's being held back by limitations on its hardware - the SP in the name refers to the stream processors count the card has (2048) to differentiate with the actual RX 580 (which has 2403).

    Your RX 580 is way too hot and is thermal throttling. You should either get a chassis with better airflow, or you should neatly replace the thermal paste.
    If you continue playing like this, your PC will hardlock every now and then.

    • @t.hitoshi
      @t.hitoshi  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for the comment. I did notice this, and have since did the thermal paste reapplied and have some new casing fans installed to help with the airflow. I only shaved about 4 or 5 degrees down though, but it wasn't as bad as this.
      Also to note that I live in a tropical country with no access to air conditioning, and no option to move anywhere else with it either. That should be important to know.

    • @hitbm4755

      @@t.hitoshi awesome stuff, no worries I live in a hot country as well with no air conditioning in my room.
      I also struggle with temperatures with my RX 480, but I am glad to have found stable conditions (77C° under load in summer), by buying a Cooler Master MB 511 ARGB chassis and also adding an extra CPU liquid cooler with the radiator and extractor fan on the top which helps a lot.
      With post 2018 Radeon Drivers on Polaris GPUs, it's difficult to keep these badboys stable.
