  • Come check out how a Stock Pro VLA II compares to one that has had it's StockTubes replaced with Groove Tubes GT-ECC83-S. I also throw in a few others, Black Lion Audio Bluey and their Seventeen. Along with a few plugins. UAD LA 2A and a T Racks Black76.

I realized just now you have a channel. Great, that you are doing videos! And it is always interesting to be able to compare different compressors, specially in drums.

Thanks for your demo! I changed valves on my ART PRO VLA II and now it has much more saturation and brings some color to the sound. I like and I use it for drums. Do you use it in real time on the track, or do you print the track using it and then you mix the track AFTER the compression?
And I have another question: how do you set your i/o on your daw? I mean: how much signal from the daw you send to the Art and how much is the out from the ART back to the daw?

Hey thanks for taking the time to watch the video, I really appreciate it. I have not used the VLA II to record drums. I have however used many many time when recording guitars both acoustic and electric. It works well on both and adds something lovely to them. With drums I like using the VLA II as a parallel comp to give them that extra attack and punch. You can use it on mono sources such as kick and snare and then in stereo for the whole kit. All those sources are used as parallel comp. As far as signal goes into the unit, I use the pre gain to set my levels. Outboard gear likes the input signal to be around -18db. I have a video (link down below) where I show you how I set up my Gain Staging shooting for around -18db. Plugins vary and it's best to read up what the signal is they like. Lastly I very rarely print anything because I have other Outboard Gear I use on other sources. Everything is else gets plugins I like. Please if possible if you haven't already hit the subscribe button and ring that bell for notification. Thanks again!
