I think its sad that edward just retired from his pirate life and choose to live as assassin and when his daughther ask that question it feels like he get a flashback of his adventure and his dead friends and it give him bittersweet memory.
LordTouchMe 77 most pirates did not have such a smooth retirement they where killed in battle, hanged or went into hiding like Ann but i get what you mean in syncate when your in his mansion i pictured him walking around the house just picturing him thinking about the old days haha
Considering that two of the people there actually tried to kill him, and he had to kill them himself, it really shows how much the guy likes his friends.
It was heart-breaking seeing his friends there at the table.. They wanted nothing more than to live free from any kingdom's rule, but the Templars and crowns tempted them against each other. Some of it does need to fit actual history of what is known of the characters, but it still sucks to have them gone.
It’s sad when he had a flashback and saw all his dead friends and even the ones who betrayed him just hit me in my heart man. Hands down I think this is the best assassins creed

I can't believe that Ubisoft accidentally made the best pirate game in gaming history. This game is a treasure to horde. A wonderful experience. Its one of those games that makes you sad that its over, that there is no more. It was a true mistake not making a sequel for Captain Kenway. Its one of those games that is so good that it makes you want complete all side quests even after the credits. Black Flag is truely one of those games that would make you say: "Now that was the peak of gaming."
Jenny: can you tell me a story on one of your adventure Edward: well one time I destroyed a whole entire battalion of Spanish soldier while defending a place called Tulum
Edward: let me tell you the story on how I conquered the entire caribbean and fought a fleet ten Man o war at the same time with only this brig and it's twenty crew Alone!
how bittersweet; by the time edward finally has direction and wealth and everything he set out to find, the people he cared about most weren't able to fully see that transformation (well, maybe with exception to addy)
Christon Huffmaster Haytham didn’t kill him, Edward was murder by mercenaries and then Haytham was taken in by Reginald Birch who ordered Edward and Haytham was raised a Templar.
Thats the sad thing about his story. Ultimately he aquired everything he desired and worked for, but it had a high price. He may have everything but in the end he standa alone. At least he got what he deserved, a family.
That shot of Edward's lost comrades is still the most heartbreaking moment in all of Assassin's Creed. This game is the saddest of them all and my personal favorite by a mile.
I swear to God after the end of the game i appreciated my circle of my friends , started to be less cocky with them and more respectful honorable and a good man....
One of the things I love about this series are the endings: each one leaves me at a loss for words. Most of them come from shock or confusion though. This one, however, has been my favourite, just because it was so sad yet happy at the same time.
Jenny: “Do you think we will find pirates?” Edward, with a heavily reinforced ship, several tons of golden canons and mortars and enough sugar and rum to burst the hull: “Uh.... no.”
Okay so I’ve been thinking about this ending a lot lately, but I haven’t looked up anything on AC or even talked about it out loud… yet here it is in my recommendations…
@@lordtouchme77 it also shows how much of a character development Edward have throughout his life he changed from a greedy pirate to that stage to say a line like that surely man ubisoft made such a masterpiece of a game and now we're playing rpg games with Vikings

What made this game so great was that Edward gave everything and got back so little! Even more tragic was that the woman he loved (initially) never got to see the wealthy and successful person he'd become >: and that scene with his friends at the end ..the feels
+Croc Gator ikr, that's super sad, people though he just left for ambition, he was ambitious/drunk/robber but still he loved his wife and wanted to make his family rich unfortunately he never did it D:
I wish Edward didn’t have such a tragic ending. He was a pirate that turned his life around finally. I wish he could have been rewarded for that. Instead he was murdered, and his son became a Templar and went off to kill his old friends who were Assassins. I guess karma came back to him in the end for all of his crimes. So sad.
Hot, Tbh I just beat the game , literally as I'm typing , I wasn't expecting an ending :( I'm friggin sad now ! beautiful fucking story with a beautiful ending!
I'm currently replaying this game for the first time in years after rewatching this video a few days ago. And after having just finished high school. And now knowing that I'll never see most of my friends again, it hits very differently. My life will never be the same. And so replaying this game, the first game I was really ever invested in, the first game I ever loved, the first game that made me love gaming... It hits entirely differently. I'd nearly forgotten why I'd loved this game so much. Why I loved Edward and his story so, so damn much. Why I loved gaming so much... I've played great games since this one. Some that I might even like just a bit more than it. But none truly hit quite like this one. Amongst the increasing storm of mediocrity and tedium of life. This game serves as one last reminder of my childhood before I really become an adult in just 10 days. And acts as one last emotionally moving, action packed, breathtaking adventure that I can truly escape into without any worry. I'll miss it all, but there isn't any other game I'd rather have serve as my last farewell...
Having just finished the game. I have to say, it's every damn bit as good as I remembered. Still the best ending to any game I've ever played. With my favorite character arc in all of gaming to boot. God bless this game. I thank it dearly for getting me into gaming and for reigniting that love just recently. But now, it's time for a new story.
11:45 Farewell my friends, I couldn't save any of you. And some of you even turned on me, but nonetheless I still consider you my friends. I'm gonna miss you all. But now its time for you to rest and know peace. Goodbye.
i didnt know all of edward's pirate friends were based off real people. i only thought hornigold and blackbeard were real. after some research after i finished ac4 a few minutes ago, all of them: stede, rackham, vane, kidd, anne, blackbeard, and hornigold were real people. it's really amazing how they brought all them back to life in this game with a touch of real history. hell, even cockram, burgess, rogers, du casse, and torress were real.
Edward should have had a trilogy like Ezio, the second game in London, the third with Edward exploring the world looking for pieces of eden. we know he did go back to London, become an assassin, then explore the world, where he lost the jackdaw, before returning to London, but I would have loved to play those parts in games.
It really hit me when Edward saw all his old friends gathered at the table, it just reminded me of how many people he'd lost. And when I saw Stede there it reminded me of how Edward in the beginning was out for himself, and by the end he gave it up for something better.
It was nice how he still remembered some of them as they were; his friends. Even ones like Hornigold and Vane who turned out bad later, Edward was a better person in the end. I think that's a hell of a lot more effective of an ending than whatever AC3 was trying to do. Also we didn't get any modern day crap here, we just had this really nice, but sad as well, ending that gave us the closure we needed.
Olórin356 Vane was left on the island. Later there came by a British ship, but the captain refused to take Vane with him. Days later there comes another ship that does take him with them, because they don't recognize him. On the crossing toward England they come upon the first ship Vane tried to sail with. The captain of that ship sees Vane and imprisoned him. Vane was brought to England and hang by the neck.... So yeah, he's dead.

This game was filled with emotional moments even the craziest men who died dropped a emotional pain in my heart but Blackbeard's hit me the hardest " in a world without gold we could have been heroes " -Blackbeards last words. And although all these struggles of emotions hit me hard I managed to carry on and worst thing is Edward got killed by a goddamed mercenary in London
I’m playing through it again, and I just barely came to the part where you first go to Nassau and meet up with Hornigold and Thatch and then have to go round up a crew. I literally stood there and just looked at them all drinking and hanging out and just wanted it to last. I’ve never felt such an emotional connection to a game until I played Black Flag. It’s timeless
Its such a perfect ending and its just so heartbreaking when you realize that while now they are all like 'you dont have to worry all your worry days are gone' and then in like 10 years the templars just break in and kidnap Haytham ;(
Damn, Matt Ryan KILLED it as Edward! He's so wonderful, and the character growth was great too. It's good to see him get something good, even if it doesn't last, because in this world, nothing ever does.
that could easily just be dlc, its not a black flag 2 that we need, its another assassins creed thats just as good as black flag. Assasins Creed 5 is most likely going to be the next AC anyways though
I finished this game multiple times, over the years. I never got sick of the ending, it always hit me hard. The fact it's been over 10 years, makes it even more nostalgic. I loved this game to death, I played it over and over again on my shitty laptop for years. Edit: the graphics were mind blowing for it's time, looking back now, it can't compare to new games but that doesnt make me forget, that it used to look like the best game to me.
+Odoacer If you read the book forsaken you will love haytham, I felt sorry for him after everything his father had done, but at least haytham took revenge on behalf of his father
+Odoacer I don't believe so, I think Edward would still be proud of Haytham's convictions (despite their disagreements, just as was Haytham's view on Connor), that, and that fact he did make a successful attempt soften the templars' means, as well as giving the possibility of a Templar-Assassin Reconciliation a chance. Haytham also kept a lot of what his father had taught him and incorporated some of it into his Templar Chapter.
+antonis735 what's awful is he didn't join the Assassin's even though he found out Birch was responsible for his father's death, he still remained a Templar.
pelu101 He remained a templar but he did some things his father would. To be honest Haytham was not completely a bad guy. Read the book Forsaken, it explaines everything.
2BHG I agree, tbh the true villain of this story is the Sage, an immortal man who wishes to be together with Juno, which will bring upon the enslavement of humanity once more.

Fallen Warrior the guy that killed them was the same guy that was hiting on Jennifer before i think and he was secretly a templer later on and he organised to kill Edward then he had Jennifer sold into slavery to Turks and raised haytham as a templer but when he was a adult he learned the truth went to Damascus and freed his sister then they killed the templer but he never left the order
His name is Edward Kenway, a pirate, a farther, an Assassin
A true friend
Andrew Kennedy and a Father very important one
Robin i see an origen fan
Andrew Kennedy who got killed in his own house
A legendary pirate
I can't believe that Ubisoft accidentally made the best pirate game in gaming history. This game is a treasure to horde. A wonderful experience. Its one of those games that makes you sad that its over, that there is no more. It was a true mistake not making a sequel for Captain Kenway. Its one of those games that is so good that it makes you want complete all side quests even after the credits. Black Flag is truely one of those games that would make you say: "Now that was the peak of gaming."
lol
Honestly its really hard to say. What came after black flag was ubisofts most ambitious and biggest fuck ups in gaming.
"The Jackdaw is a ship Jenny, not a boat"
Jenny: can you tell me a story on one of your adventure
Edward: well one time I destroyed a whole entire battalion of Spanish soldier while defending a place called Tulum
And one day i sank the entire Royal Navy after my black-bearded friend was killed
ok Don't tell me then
Edward: let me tell you the story on how I conquered the entire caribbean and fought a fleet ten Man o war at the same time with only this brig and it's twenty crew Alone!
"Well uh.. One time I fought a full battalion of Man o war. Not a good idea tho
Edward: and on another I survived my ship getting blown up and saved a gittery merchant
how bittersweet; by the time edward finally has direction and wealth and everything he set out to find, the people he cared about most weren't able to fully see that transformation (well, maybe with exception to addy)
At least anne and adewale can see him become a better man, better late than never.
Yeah then his bastard of a son grows up to kill him
Christon Huffmaster Haytham didn’t kill him, Edward was murder by mercenaries and then Haytham was taken in by Reginald Birch who ordered Edward and Haytham was raised a Templar.
@@mordha86 more like turned a different path from where Edward intended him to be
Thats the sad thing about his story.

Best assassin's creed ever
Better than syndicate and unity in terms of storyline
Syndicate has better story as Unity
but syndicate ending isnt touching
Assassins creeds 3 will always be my favorite
RandomGuyWithALongName , Assassins creed 3 is the best, but I need a black flag 2
ShadowSpecs95 nah syndicate and unity wins this
chris hemsworth should play edward in a movie adaptation
he can slim down like he did for that moby dick movie he was in, i also think he has the right voice and charisma
hes still a good pick
The guy who voices him should. Its the same guy that did the Constantine show.
oh really thats cool, he'd be good actually
If Heath Ledger was still alive he would be be perfect for Edward!
One of the things I love about this series are the endings: each one leaves me at a loss for words. Most of them come from shock or confusion though.
This one, however, has been my favourite, just because it was so sad yet happy at the same time.
It is happy because Edward got what he truly deserved, yet sad because we know what he lost on his way and how his story ends.
11:42 Are we not going to mention the flying chair in the background?

Jenny: “Do you think we will find pirates?”
Edward, with a heavily reinforced ship, several tons of golden canons and mortars and enough sugar and rum to burst the hull: “Uh.... no.”
I know this is a joke, but legal pirates do exist, privateers, like Edward's previous occupation.
Okay so I’ve been thinking about this ending a lot lately, but I haven’t looked up anything on AC or even talked about it out loud… yet here it is in my recommendations…
Beautifully written game, the story, the background, the whole cazoo, it almost made my cry when Edward remembered his friends at that table.
Kirā Iι dame with me too
16:39 "What about pirates? Will I see Pirates?" No, there's not much chance of that i think...
I cried like a baby right there.
Yeah its more sad and i think when jennifer asked that edward will remember all his friends who either died or left him.
@@lordtouchme77 it also shows how much of a character development Edward have throughout his life he changed from a greedy pirate to that stage to say a line like that surely man ubisoft made such a masterpiece of a game and now we're playing rpg games with Vikings
Every SINGLE time I see that black screen and credits, I tear up.
I was too young when I completed this game for it to effect me but now, after 7 years of life. I can’t stop those tears
I'd buy it full price if they remaster this.
What made this game so great was that Edward gave everything and got back so little! Even more tragic was that the woman he loved (initially) never got to see the wealthy and successful person he'd become >: and that scene with his friends at the end ..the feels
+Croc Gator ikr, that's super sad, people though he just left for ambition, he was ambitious/drunk/robber but still he loved his wife and wanted to make his family rich
unfortunately he never did it D:
Luis Moreno he did
Luis Moreno He did though, his journey to get there however taught him many lessons and cost him a lot along the way.
@@luismoreno1674 he did make his riches tho, problem was all them riches got him nowhere in the end.
That dialogue with his daughter is brilliant
Right there's so much hidden meaning behind some of his words to his daughter
I wish Edward didn’t have such a tragic ending. He was a pirate that turned his life around finally. I wish he could have been rewarded for that.
Instead he was murdered, and his son became a Templar and went off to kill his old friends who were Assassins.
I guess karma came back to him in the end for all of his crimes. So sad.
How much you can love Ezio, nothing can compare to the atmosphere this game graced us with
i just came here to remember the only video game to ever make me cry
same here
Hot, Tbh I just beat the game , literally as I'm typing , I wasn't expecting an ending :( I'm friggin sad now ! beautiful fucking story with a beautiful ending!
You should have played The Walking Dead Season 1 :v
Undertale made me cry more
What kills me, is it took Mary's death to set Edward straight
Agree...that sequence was gut wrenching, you could really feel Edward's pain.
Because Thatch and Mary were his left and right hands man.
Jenny: Will we see pirates?
Edward and his entire crew: *profuse sweating*
11:45 Farewell my friends, I couldn't save any of you. And some of you even turned on me, but nonetheless I still consider you my friends. I'm gonna miss you all. But now its time for you to rest and know peace. Goodbye.

6:30 "Our trailer is finished wanna see it? "
You: No no no no no no whhhyyyyy
Edward should have had a trilogy like Ezio, the second game in London, the third with Edward exploring the world looking for pieces of eden. we know he did go back to London, become an assassin, then explore the world, where he lost the jackdaw, before returning to London, but I would have loved to play those parts in games.
he sold the jackdaw the book explains it
It's ubi one thing you can trust them to do is fuck up
He dies in just after the ending cutscene I believe in a home robbery attempt
He was killed by Templar Grandmaster Reginald Birch after his return
Himangshu Sharma oh well then they made it look like one because in the backstory of how he dies that’s what it says
Radiation2K Vane didn't go bad he just want batshit crazy.
Radiation2K Did you even pay attention to the AC3 story?
Olórin356 Vane was left on the island. Later there came by a British ship, but the captain refused to take Vane with him. Days later there comes another ship that does take him with them, because they don't recognize him. On the crossing toward England they come upon the first ship Vane tried to sail with. The captain of that ship sees Vane and imprisoned him. Vane was brought to England and hang by the neck.... So yeah, he's dead.
Tim Brinkhof You're telling me this info I already know because?
Speakin of which, our trailer is finished, wanna see it?

It's really interesting how Edward changed from being a self interested dick into a really likable character. Nice work!
***** Shay was awful imo, he can go die in a whole for all I care. Maybe a game where Connor or Arno kill him in the end would be awesome.
And the opposite for Connor in #3 :(
I still like Connor the best though, after Ezio of course.
TRIMC95 Shay was a brilliant character.
A bit arrogant but he's interesting.
Fully disagree, but whatever.
TRIMC95 So why do you think badly of him?
If the answer is because he became a templar then it's pretty dumb.

Its such a perfect ending and its just so heartbreaking when you realize that while now they are all like 'you dont have to worry all your worry days are gone' and then in like 10 years the templars just break in and kidnap Haytham ;(
And they sell Jenny into sex slavery.

Shadow of Altaïr Then play black flag

swimmer8585 yeah i agree
Damn, Matt Ryan KILLED it as Edward! He's so wonderful, and the character growth was great too. It's good to see him get something good, even if it doesn't last, because in this world, nothing ever does.
I'm rewatching it again and im crying a lot more than when i first saw it
only game ending to ever make me tear up
1 of the best endings to a game ever
Why Syndicate and unity? We just need something like Black flag 2
Black Flag 2 wouldn't work because it's set before Assassins Creed 3.
We need a play through of James Kidd/Mary Reads back story
that could easily just be dlc, its not a black flag 2 that we need, its another assassins creed thats just as good as black flag. Assasins Creed 5 is most likely going to be the next AC anyways though
We need AC Rogue 2
we need another AC game like brotherhood and the first ever AC it was so good when they actually where assassins
I finished this game multiple times, over the years. I never got sick of the ending, it always hit me hard. The fact it's been over 10 years, makes it even more nostalgic. I loved this game to death, I played it over and over again on my shitty laptop for years.
Edit: the graphics were mind blowing for it's time, looking back now, it can't compare to new games but that doesnt make me forget, that it used to look like the best game to me.
one of the most touching endings in all assassins creed history. Without a doubt.
This makes me sad. It tears my heart "spoilers" when you fight adawale while he is talking about how Edward would e ashamed of Haytham
+Odoacer If you read the book forsaken you will love haytham, I felt sorry for him after everything his father had done, but at least haytham took revenge on behalf of his father
+Odoacer
I don't believe so, I think Edward would still be proud of Haytham's convictions (despite their disagreements, just as was Haytham's view on Connor), that, and that fact he did make a successful attempt soften the templars' means, as well as giving the possibility of a Templar-Assassin Reconciliation a chance.
Reading this in 2021 made me cry. All the lessons that this game teaches us and the memories it’s given us is just a blessing. And not to mention the impact it does in the other games after it.

Also that moment when you realize that Unity was the game right after this...
+6HotelBravo actually, Rogue came after this. and, after that, 3. and then Unity. which means, Shay's still out there. but, Edward's grand child did take care of Haythum.
Silver200916 no, on which game was released after this. AC 4 came out 2013 and Unity came out 2014
talking about the timeline
Silver200916 yeah I know, I just misworded my original comment, but yeah I menat that Unity was the game made and released after blackflag was made
i get that they had to make a game, having nothing to do with america (i mean, we have, Black Flag, Liberation, 3, and now, Rogue) and, Unity is slightly, a breath of fresh air. it being in a new place and all. buuuut, i liked Rogue more. liked the story, free roam, and and elements (plus better/more familiar controls) my only hope is that Syndicate is a little like both. a breath of fresh air, in a new setting. but, better story then unity. and, similar weapons system.
the first time I played this game on ps 4 in 2013 at the release, it left very fond memories, and today, December 3, 2021 I finished it on PC, and I made sure that this game is a masterpiece..
I get emotional seeing this scene. This was one of the last few good games that have come out. and I wasfinishing high school during this time.
