    The reason that the two fingers in England is offensive is that in older times with archers,those who were captured or defeated by the enemy had their arching fingers cut off and so other archers put up their two arching fingers to show they still had them and insult the person who did not.

      not so sure about that because I my self am an archer and I do in fact use a recurve bow and I use three fingers to shot in fact most people I know use 3

      Link The Hero - Not *that* reliable though, as I mentioned, it's a legend and has no historical data to back it up. People just like to repeat that story.

    The hell? In America do you guys sit in the back seat of a taxi? I live in the UK and typically you always sit in front unless there's two or three people, in which case you sit in the back.

    • @FatedMusic
      @FatedMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, we usually sit in the back even when riding solo. In big cities it isn't even strange to see a partition with glass in the middle between the front and back of the cab. Though you can sit in the front seat if you really wanted to.

    The two finger thing around 25 minutes in, goes back a long time ago when people used bow and arrows, the archers would get index and middle fingers chopped off when captured, that is what I remember from it, what I was told mostly, Jesse you know history, something new every day.

      Shady Steps I heard that it was a gesture the English made up to insult the French after the Battle of Agincourt. Before the battle, the French boasted about how they would cut off the English archer's bow string fingers. As you can probably guess/know from history, things didn't go as planned for them. After the battle, the English held up their bow string fingers to mock them.

    • @Mazra42
      @Mazra42 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nuvuk This is incorrect. "Eskimo" does not mean "raw fish eater", but this misconception is the reason why the word has become a derogatory term in some parts of the world. It's more likely to mean "[people who] net snowshoes", since the Ojibwa tribe uses the word "askime" about netting snowshoes.

  • @williamburns8218

    just on the side, the reason that holding up two fingers is offensive goes way back 1415 where England invented a bow that could pierce armor, they used this bow to win a war with France. In response to this the French began cutting off the two fingers of the Englishmen caught in battle, making it impossible to draw the bow. to insult the
    Englishmen the French would hold up the two fingers. The End

    I don't find Americans that offensive, they can be annoying tho. many times they're just so loud and seem to have no consideration towards other people. also I dislike the way many of them just assume locals have to speak good English, or else they will complain about it

    The two fingers thing in Europe is all about ye olden wars where Archery was king. One side would chop the fingers off of the other archers so that they could not pluck their bow anymore, then taunt them by showing they still have their two fingers.
