Hi there, Im trying to find some info on a hood ornament that I have. Its a boomerang, snake and kookaburra probably from Queensland, Australia. Any advice as to where to ask would be much appreciated. Many thanks. Great video btw.
I have a mammoth hood ornament collection all the fold back spring-loaded version from the 1970s. The ones a little boy and a bicycle and a pair of wire cutters could collect those earlier ones were bolted down to the car and you couldn't get those things off unless you open the hood and had actual tools. But those fold back ones you could simply ride up on your bicycle pull it up and clip the wires in a way you went. The beauty of the fold back hood ornament says some of the mounts on the Ford models made the ornaments interchangeable so you could change it out when you got bored with looking at one you could put a different one on there. The Mercedes star is probably one of the most famous and the Rolls-Royce flying lady, the flying lady was made where it would fold back with a spring and later the version that drops down into the grill. I have that version on my Rolls-Royce. Every car I own except for one Volkswagen has a hood ornament on it. I won't drive without one.
