I'm bisexual and I'm 18 years old. I came out to my mama at 15, and the reaction was hurtful, and that's a light way of putting it, and I've never spoken about it since. My mother follows baptist religion and goes to a baptist church. I already know how my dad feels about the lgbtq+ community since he doesnt follow a religion, he lives by the bible and I've heard him speak about it several times. due to my mom's reaction 3 years ago, she and I barely talk. I dont try to make conversation, but I'm pretty close with my dad, and I know at some point in my life they're going to find out that I like both men and women and probably try to "help" me and I already mourn the loss of the relationship that my dad and I will loose when I move out. the only one in my immediate family that knows is my little sister, she's 14 and has accepted me since I came out. also my views on coming out have also changed due to the negative reaction from my mom. I don't think I'll ever come out to anyone again unless they ask because at the end of the day, what I like doesn't concern you.
My heart aches each time I see a queer sibling embracing the colonizer's religion (Christianity) despite all the HURT (and this is putting it lightly) it has brought upon us. I don't believe in anything supernatural for the lack of evidence presented from those who claim such things exist. However, I deeply respect people's belief and what it brings to them. But when it comes to the colonizer's religion (especially here in Latin America, seeing all the damage it has done), I can't undertand why so many siblings are still clinging on to it, despite having deconstructed so many colonized beliefs. Well, you said it yourself that that's the only thing you knew since you were a child, and it's understandable that letting go of it can be so challenging, even frightening. If you were born in a different country, your worldview would be different (with a totally different god. And not with the "it's all the same god" bs some Christians pull out to disregard other culture's god and godS as if they were Christianity lite or 2.0). But it still hurts to see siblings not only upholding, but also defending the colonizer's religion (because if the colonizers never invaded us, we would not even know who Jesus is, like the natives in my region didn't).

The line about fathers not being expected to love their kids hits home. I've been watching Dead Domain's videos on hate preacher Steven Anderson. She's spoken to some of his kids and two of them said their dad wasn't that bad because he provided for them. It's heartbreaking because that is paired with the most disturbing stories of abuse. Kids deserve love and affection from their fathers.

I'm bisexual and I'm 18 years old. I came out to my mama at 15, and the reaction was hurtful, and that's a light way of putting it, and I've never spoken about it since. My mother follows baptist religion and goes to a baptist church. I already know how my dad feels about the lgbtq+ community since he doesnt follow a religion, he lives by the bible and I've heard him speak about it several times. due to my mom's reaction 3 years ago, she and I barely talk. I dont try to make conversation, but I'm pretty close with my dad, and I know at some point in my life they're going to find out that I like both men and women and probably try to "help" me and I already mourn the loss of the relationship that my dad and I will loose when I move out. the only one in my immediate family that knows is my little sister, she's 14 and has accepted me since I came out. also my views on coming out have also changed due to the negative reaction from my mom. I don't think I'll ever come out to anyone again unless they ask because at the end of the day, what I like doesn't concern you.

But when it comes to the colonizer's religion (especially here in Latin America, seeing all the damage it has done), I can't undertand why so many siblings are still clinging on to it, despite having deconstructed so many colonized beliefs. Well, you said it yourself that that's the only thing you knew since you were a child, and it's understandable that letting go of it can be so challenging, even frightening. If you were born in a different country, your worldview would be different (with a totally different god. And not with the "it's all the same god" bs some Christians pull out to disregard other culture's god and godS as if they were Christianity lite or 2.0). But it still hurts to see siblings not only upholding, but also defending the colonizer's religion (because if the colonizers never invaded us, we would not even know who Jesus is, like the natives in my region didn't).
I don't mean to start an argument, but how can you say you have a deep love for all people's beliefs, then constantly refer to Christianity as the coloniser's religion? The line about fathers not being expected to love their kids hits home. I've been watching Dead Domain's videos on hate preacher Steven Anderson. She's spoken to some of his kids and two of them said their dad wasn't that bad because he provided for them. It's heartbreaking because that is paired with the most disturbing stories of abuse. Kids deserve love and affection from their fathers.

Lol the classic estranged dad move is to just give you some money because they don't know what else to do. Me and my other friends who have dads that live far away each have a story about out dads visiting us for the first time in years only to hand us a $100 before leaving again 😂 I swear in everyone's story it's always $100. And it's dads of all races/nationalities! Anybody else have that experience?
ETA: I love my dad and admire him in a lot of ways, but he is most definitely on the spectrum and had absent parents himself. He is not the most involved parent, but he is the most accepting, sentimental, caring person, even if he doesn't always know what to say. I wish we could be closer and spend more time together because we have so many common interests, but he's just kind of a lil hermit that keeps to himself. But even from afar he makes it know he is proud of me and loves me. Lol it's a unique relationship for sure, but it is what it is I guess.
Putting aside Boosie’s dangerous behavior, it is hilarious to me that people like him want their kids to settle for half-ass acceptance. And then they get mad when the kids cut all ties. You either think my existence is gross and shameful, and you don’t wanna be around me, or you accept me. Otherwise, keep my name out your mouth. You can’t have both. And that sweet girl still calls him a good father for providing the absolute bare minimum. It’s just heartbreaking.
