    Yes, it technically works, but honestly, you should try it yourself and see how broken everything gets. Modern web devs do some of the most insane things, like a tiny landing page needing a giant React JS bundle, random menus using hacky JS instead of modern CSS, those "continue reading" buttons on news sites, addictive infinite scroll, and more awful things.
    If not for all that silliness, I'd bet the entire web could get by without any JS at all, but sadly, we live in a world where software efficiency is halved every 18 months, so of course the web browser and the websites it runs must suck out all life out of your PC!

      WebDev here, websites are mostly possible without JS unless you want some crazy designs like Apple's product pages. Web apps however, are basically impossible since people don't expect every single interaction to cause a full page reload. Ironically, something like TH-cam could mostly work without JS, but a web app that's more like an actual app (e.g. you can edit tables) is not gonna be very usable without JS

      In fairness with how relatively powerful computers have become, it simply doesn't make sense to make most websites light on performance. Even basic computers can usually play 3D games and complete renderings in a reasonable amount of time, so running a page with a ton of js usually isn't gonna be bad on most of these machines.

    • @fizzinsoda

      Hacky js vs modern css lmao, what does that even mean
      could've just said you don't know what you are talking about.
      if you turn off JavaScript you ruin the ability for some websites to load in using only JavaScript which helps with speed vs all html. it's just the websites ability to see that you aren't using JavaScript anymore then the website sends back actual files instead of js loaded html

    Pro Tip, if you use an ad blocker, you can bypass the think that disables the site until you disable your ad blocker, by getting rid of JavaScript, and if a news site has a pay wall, you can bypass that by disabling JavaScript too

      You don't need to disable javascript to do that. Just delete the element that covers the page (ublock origin has an easy way to do that).
      Disabling javascript will also most likely not get rid of blur effects, which means you still have to edit the css.

    • @mandude7358
      @mandude7358 ปีที่แล้ว +67

      @@Nina-cd2eh Actually sometimes neither of these things will work with websites, as the actual site will just be what you can see (nothing to scroll too) until you either pay for there subscription or verify yourself in some way. This can't be fixed because even if you block JavaScript or remove certain elements, there is nothing there in the first place. Sometimes this can be bypassed by looking in the code for variabilities such as links or guessing a path that might lead to the full unfiltered site, but this can be unreliable.

    • @Nina-cd2eh
      @Nina-cd2eh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mandude7358 True, but most sites don't do that, and one reason is SEO. Sites want their articles indexed by google, but not accessible to users, which benefits us.
      Edit: And I just remembered "12ft io" is a thing which seems to rely on crawler caches. I haven't really used it though i don't know how well it works.

    Technically, a webpage that doesn't work without JavaScript is broken.
    TH-cam is broken on purpose. It does not use well-formed HTML that conforms to W3C specifications. They used that to force Microsoft to abandon their web rendering engine and use Google's fork of Apple's fork of KDE's rendering engine instead.
    JavaScript was developed at Netscape in 1995 because web browsers didn't have any backdoors yet. They also invented cookies.

    Disabling javascript will def break some sites, the newer one the worse, as if it's a older one, it might be built mostly with php, from my experience with web dev, modern sites are bloated as fuck, using heavy js frameworks where they are not needed at all, i ain't even saying one should use vanilla html and css for websites, as there are def advantages to using a framework, but damn for a landing page it's better to use a static site generator like astro js, as that compiles to mostly html and css (unless js is actually needed somewhere), a lot of stuff can be done with html and css only, and a lot of people underestimate those possibilities, resulting in poor js recreations of existing features, more bloat, and poor performance
    Also i don't want to put all the blame on the developers themselves, as often the ones who commission a website require a use of a specific frameworks and libraries, where they are absolutely not needed, and also for some websites js is actually needed and used in a good fashion, because html can't really handle logic

    there are ways to make a website built using JS to still work even with JS disabled.
    some uses SSR
    the solution i've seen the most that's still being used is using PHP to generate static HTML (this could be done using JS too in SSR)
    the trick is to make JS generate most of the code as HTML and CSS without JS to the extent where users will be able to use your site completely with JS disabled.
    if there's something wrong here you can tell me.

    If you don’t know how to handle cookie windows, then you shouldn’t be disabled JavaScript in the first place, also you can watch videos pretty simply if you use alternate front ends or dlp

    • @ThisIsTheBestAnime
      @ThisIsTheBestAnime ปีที่แล้ว

      The best way to handle cookie windows is to never interact with them, then you're not giving consent to get sprayed with cookies, not even "functional" ones. You can also delete most cookie banners & windows with inspect element. Of course for websites you spend more time on and reload regularly you can choose "Reject all" or if that's not available, "More options...". The really evil ones make you individually disable different third party ad networks manually one by one in a list of hundreds. I rarely bother with those websites.
      And there's the option of never saving cookies to begin with, which breaks some websites.

      In some situation you don't need JavaScript at all but in some you literally require JavaScript to build your app. If you are building a sort of blog then, reducing or even removing JavaScript might be a good thing (for UX), but in application that is often regularly updated with dynamic content... I don't think Jeffrey Way is true. We are living in a world of constant change, news are often toss around, advertising on the web are everywhere, JavaScript is a good thing not a bad thing actually.
