By far one of my favorite "Randy Newberg" videos!! Being from MN and going out to MT chasing deer for years and I have yet to come across that monster I want. Watching Randy's videos always keeps the fire alive to keep on keepin' on!!
Great VideoBeing 100% confident in your shot is extremely important, kudos. That's a great looking buck! Montana is where I wish that I lived, Love Big Sky Country.
I've got to say Randy... You have inspired me to pursue a dream of mine in trying out public land antelope and elk hunting...Thank you for sharing your knowledge and resources with all of us!
By far my favorite person to watch. You are a great face to have for the hunting community. You make great decisions and provide real hunting experiences. I've watched almost every hunting episode you have on Amazon and TH-cam. And your advice got me my biggest bull to date. A 366 inch 7x7
these are some really great videos and your shots are usually pretty could and drop em within about 10 - 15 seconds. good hunting and keep up the good work
Thanks for watching them. When we started this gig 10 years ago, the "experts" told us nobody would watch public land hunts. Those experts are now in different jobs and thanks to folks like you, we are still chugging along, filming public land hunts. Hope 2018 is a great year for you.
Was the back elk the biggest? From the view I saw on the video it looked as if the front elk was the biggest but I know you had the best look you were there love you're videos I'm an active Montana hunter and love every bit of it! Thank you for posting
A .308 will definitely put meat on the table! And the antlers don't suck either! Great hunt Randy. Thank you for taking us all on your hunt with you via video. I enjoy your hunts that you record so much. We're right there with you!!! Thanks again!
Curious Jason, where are you moving from? A few years back, Randy wrote a magazine article, in which magazine I don't recall, but he talked about having lived in Minnesota much of his life then in moving to Montana he had to learn to hunt all over again because it's a whole new ball game. Having moved from northern Michigan to northwestern Wyoming, I found his story rang clear and true with me because even though I was a successful hunter in Michigan, I struggled for several seasons in Wyoming. It was Randy's article that showed me what I was doing wrong and once I set out to learn the ways of hunting in the mountains, I found success. Maybe Randy can recall which magazine it was so that you can hopefully find it, but I would heartily recommend reading it. By the way... thanks for that article Randy, you helped me a bunch.
I am moving from Washington state. Thanks for the heads up, I love learning new ways to hunt. I've hunted in Montana a few times before. The terrain is very similar to what we have here in Washington where I hunt. I can't wait to learn the area and techniques and to meet some people to show me around. Let me know if you find that article, I'm very interested in reading it. Montana is my idea of heaven on earth. I can't believe I actually get to finally live there!!!
I feel the same way about Wyoming. I didn't get to move here until I was 44 years old, but I dreamed about it most of my life. There's an old saying that if you want something too much you'll likely be disappointed when you get it... let's just say that after almost 10 years I'm still living the dream without a moment's disappointment. I had considered Bozeman first, but the housing costs were extremely high because it's a college town. It was also a pretty big town (I left a town of 350 in Mich) and I really wanted something smaller. Cody just seemed to fit my desires and although I'd never set foot in Cody or Wyoming before, as I drove the moving truck into town I had the deepest and most sincere feeling of coming home. Unlike most transplants, I don't refer to Michigan as "home" or "back home" or anything of the sort. Wyoming is home, the place I was meant to be. I actually have nightmares occasionally about visiting Michigan (which I do because I have family there) and not being able to get home to Wyoming. You won't be disappointed my friend... dreams do come true.
Thanks for the encouragement! I've never been to Bozeman, I'll be visiting there this summer and moving there next summer. I do know it's where I'm supposed to be. Wish it was a little cheaper cost of living though!
Hi, I really enjoy your filmed hunts. I hunt mule deer and moose, Iron sights all the way! :D Where I hunt we dont have a problem with wood ticks, but my hunting grounds are slowly expanding, and I was curious what is your experience and opinion on dealing with wood ticks on over night hunts etc.? Cheers from BC
Yes, that is what I shoot in my .308 Win and I get complete pass throughs on most shots, with the exception of two elk at 300+ yards, when the bullet was recovered under the hide on the opposite shoulder. Thanks for watching.
Gotta love the character on that buck. Extra junk and cheaters gets every hunters heart pounding. What kind of bipod do you recommend? Is that a 12-25 inch harris?
I use Mystery Ranch packs. I have the Metcalf, the Pintler, the ScapeGoat, and the Marshall. It just depends on how long of a hunt I will be on. Link here - www.mysteryranch.com/Packs/Hunting Thanks for watching.
Awesome videos all around. I noticed that you don't do a lot of Idaho hunting but you speak highly of Idaho hunting in a couple different videos. Any specific reason why you don't hunt Idaho as much?
Because ID has the latest drawing results of all states. By the time the other states have done their drawings, we usually have the tags we need. As a result, ID ends up being left off the list. I will be there this season for a late archery deer hunt. Thanks for watching.
Randy Newberg, Hunter thanks for replying back to me! I have a couple twenty plus year old savage model 110’s that are ok. What I’m looking for is quality left handed bolt action that won’t break the bank?? Maybe in the 700-900 dollar range?
VicJackpotRider the tikka t3x lite stainless is a good one that comes left handed. They have it in everything from .223, 22-250, .243, 6.5 creed, 30-06, 7 mag, .270 WSM, .300 win, etc. ranges from $700-900. 5.9 pounds for non magnums, 6.3 for magnums. Tikkas are very good and have an MOA guarantee with a very smooth action. Of course, there are many other options, but that seems to fit your needs quite well. You can check sportsmanswarehouse.com for more info on it!
Hi Randy! I'm a finnish guy and I'd like to ask, if I visit USA, could I get a tag easily or is it very hard with all laws and such? PS. Great videos :)
+kelbin kjuylbi - You should could, depending upon which state and which species you want to hunt. Send me an email at contact@randynewberg.com. My family came to the US from Kourtane Finland.
Being in Montana , I will tell you our hunting is awesome, that said we are getting a lot of anti hunters here from more liberal states. This is causing a lot of tensions here in SW Montana between hunters and the anti's from California, Oregon and Washington. Randy I hate to correct you on elk and roads but we hit elk here everyday on the roads/ highways, they are not afraid of roads, thats is not a factual statement , I know I live here. Max Baucus, was cast out of office by Montanans 90 % of which are hunters whats that tell you, he wasn't that great. He voted for Diane Feinstein's gun ban, so whats that tell you as a hunter.
Every study shows elk prefer to be away from roads. Yes, they at times will be near roads, especially when it is not hunting season. I live in MT, too. When it comes to rifle season, I am hunting areas away from roads. The mature bull elk have figured out where to go when the shooting starts.
Hunting units have population objectives determined by wildlife biologists. "Over objective" implies the population is above sustainable levels, and more hunting tags are issued to establish equilibrium.
+Thetinebroken - Yeah, it should have been, but for cameras I was hoping for a better encounter, as it was shaky and far off. Stupid me. Such is what often happens when we are filming and we set certain criteria for how close we need to be and what footage we will find acceptable. Thanks for watching.
I wouldn't feel too bad. You tagged a really fine buck. One consolation: You got to pack out a "Lighter" animal. Great hunt and I really like the way you spanked that buck!! Good job!
By far one of my favorite "Randy Newberg" videos!! Being from MN and going out to MT chasing deer for years and I have yet to come across that monster I want. Watching Randy's videos always keeps the fire alive to keep on keepin' on!!
"And he is laying profusely right over there" Brilliant, I love it!
My wife didn't find nearly the humor in it that I did. Glad you found it fun, also. Thanks for watching and good luck this season.
What an awesome hunt and what an awesome shot! Great episode!
Thanks for watching.
I have so much respect for what you're willing to teach!!!!! Thank you for enjoying what you do that teaches someone like me!
Thanks for watching.
Sweet. Randy. Love your hunting trips
Amazing buck and cool hunt!
Great job, Love this guy.
Thanks for watching.

Love your ethics, Randy!!!
Thanks. And thanks for watching.

That's good to hear. Thanks so much for following our platforms.
We're moving to western Montana this summer and can't wait to hunt those lands. Amazing adventures await.
Hope it treats you well.
Awesome buck man! Great hunt as well!
Thanks. Was a ton of fun. Didn't expect that one.
Great shot Randy!
Thanks. And thanks for watching.
Randy your very lucky to be hunting southwest Montana up here in the northwest it's starting a lot harder since the reintroduction of the wolves
Derek Lecount I live up here northwest also where up do you hunt +
Natosha Hernandez around the flathead Valley
Your video's are some of the best as far as audio and visual. keep up the good work.
Thank you. And thanks for watching.

Congrats on your bull. That's a whopper. Thanks for following along.
these are some really great videos and your shots are usually pretty could and drop em within about 10 - 15 seconds. good hunting and keep up the good work
I love watching his public land hunts. I’m tired of seeing private land hunts that are less than 10 hunters a year.

They were about the same, but the back bull provided me a much better situation.
Very nice Buck
great hunt randy.! :)
Thanks for watching.
Awesome, awesome hunt Randy! What caliber did you shoot that deer with?
Thanks. I used a .308 Win.
A .308 will definitely put meat on the table! And the antlers don't suck either! Great hunt Randy. Thank you for taking us all on your hunt with you via video. I enjoy your hunts that you record so much. We're right there with you!!! Thanks again!

about an hour.

+Sea Pee - Fortunately, very few of the places I hunt have a tick issue. I'm not much help with that question. Best to you in 2016.
Were you using the 308 on this hunt?
Yes, I was using a .308 Win.
Randy is your 308 shooting 165 Accubonds? Complete pass throughs? Thanks
Yes, that is what I shoot in my .308 Win and I get complete pass throughs on most shots, with the exception of two elk at 300+ yards, when the bullet was recovered under the hide on the opposite shoulder. Thanks for watching.
loving your videos man. I am impressed with your bipod, which one is it?
That was a Champion 23" (?) pivoting bipod. Thanks for watching.
Randy I like the looks of those gloves can you tell me what you have there?
Chopper mitts with a rag wool liner is most of it.
Gotta love the character on that buck. Extra junk and cheaters gets every hunters heart pounding.
What kind of bipod do you recommend? Is that a 12-25 inch harris?
That is a Champion, but I also use a Harris. They need to be pivoting bipods for me.
where can i buy maps of public land like you use
Randy, what kind of backpack do you use? I recently stumbled upon your videos and am hooked? The backpacks you use seem perfect for western hunting.
I use Mystery Ranch packs. I have the Metcalf, the Pintler, the ScapeGoat, and the Marshall. It just depends on how long of a hunt I will be on. Link here - www.mysteryranch.com/Packs/Hunting
Thanks for watching.
@@Fresh_Tracks they named there packs after Montana wilderness areas? That's pretty cool, Montana is beautiful country.
Randy, what clothing gear did you use for this hunt? Especially jacket and pants.
Sitka Timberline Pants and Jetstream Jacket.

Does howa make the same rifle that you shoot in left hand?
Unfortunately, they do not.

@@Fresh_Tracks I'm a lefty myself. Tikkas are nice but I want American made, I'm going with Remington 7mm Rem Mag with a 3-9 Leupold
What is your favorite deer and antelope caliber?
Probably a 7mm.-08.
Hey Randy! What district or area are you in on the hunt? Let me know thanks!
What a shot

How much does a tag costs??
Lots. Deer only is $602. Combined deer/elk is $1,010.
I remember the 2013 elk season in Montana I shot a 7x6 bull elk with my bow on national Forest in the little belt mountains
Congrats.
👍
How much do the combos cost for non resident
In think the elk-deer combo is now close to $900.
Randy, is this an area where a hunter would contend with grizzlies when hunting? Thanks!
Yes, which is why we were diligent about a clean camp, hanging our food far from camp, etc.

You can't make a quartering shot on a bull elk at 375 yards that's the size of a horse........ok, hunters do it all the time.
When it is coming toward me and will be presenting a better shot, I will wait every time.
There aint nothing wrong with waiting for a better shot, don't be a dick. Randy has some great ethics which is more important than bagging an elk
MontanaMountainMen people take that shot all the time?People also end up chasing them all over creation also
@@fredwaldon2068 Well true if you don't practice enough.
Don’t come to Montana to hunt
See you opening day
