In this video I am making a simple sheath with a bow tie closure for my head knife. The head knife (also called a round knife) is a traditional and primary tool for leatherwork which can be used to make various different types of cuts.
This is a short process video for people who aren't leatherworkers and just enjoy watching things being made. For leatherworkers the full tutorial is available here:

Please note as this video was cut down from the tutorial the audio is muted in places. No music was added as people seem not to like that these days.

There has to be a sainthood in your future just for making these more concise versions of your longer tutorial videos! The option to watch these first to pick out any techniques or steps with which one is unfamiliar before consulting the full hour-long, plus, version is a greatly appreciated time saver. The time stamps for each major step in the description make them even *MORE* temporally economical. Thank you very much for all of your videos, and, cheers!

Second this sentiment. TH-cam should make your format mandatory for tutorial videos 😹 (just kidding but only barely)

Glad your doing ok, I have made a ton of leather projects and I owe all my techniques to you. I’ve watched countless videos over the years and I’m glad I watched yours first for how to do it right. Thanks

I have seen many head knife sheaths but the bowtie with a sam brown button is a first. Looks very cool I think I will try it for mine thanks

Always inspiring to watch your videos. Your knife sheath video got me started 2 years ago. Perfect blend of no nonsense practical advice and inspiration. Thank you for sharing!

    Great video as always!
Can you recommend a decent edge beveler please?
I have cheap one from ebay and it gets dull after few passes.

Ian, great video, and exquisite craftsmanship as always. But I gotta tell you, I got a chuckle out of your using a box cutter to make the sheath for the round knife. Kinda like using a rock to pound a nail into the wall, so you have something to hang your hammer on. :-) Looking forward to your next video.

I would think I use my Stanley knife 95% of the time and the head knife 5% of the time for cuts, it most cases it's just easier and works better. I wouldn't change my habits just because of the nature of the item being made :)

there is always something amusing about using a tool to make the case/cover/mod for that very tool

I might just have to buy that kind of knife just so I can make this sheath.

Good to see a new video Ian; love your no-nonsense style compared to most leather TH-camrs (Nigel Armitage likewise). Couple of questions if I may... What are you dying the edges with here and is that a water burnish then gum-trag/Tokonole later (don't think you've ever done an edge dying/finishing video)? I'm experimenting with Eco-Flo Waterstain (Fenice) on edges at the moment with various finishes after that. EDIT: Just saw your comment of a full tutorial coming soon. And as someone who doesn't punch a whole lot what weight of maul would you recommend for moslty pricking iron use? Better to get one maul to cover the occasional punch as well or a lighter maul for irons and keep using my 1kg rubber mallet for punching? Thanks!
