Thanks for the video! Pequin plants are the easiest to grow but do not like cold weather. I find they are very resilient and will grow anywhere and almost never die but only continue to come back to life and produce peppers. The biggest plants I have seen were way out in the country on many acres just growing under the trees. They did not look like bushes! They grew wild here and seemed to thrive in the shade of the big trees!
We cut one of our tallest ones (it stood 6 ft tall) down to about a foot, back at the beginning of 2018, after the last freeze, & it is like 8 ft tall now. We never cut it anymore & it just does it's thing😊 thanks for watching & commenting😊😊

First, thank you so much for taking the time to check out my video, it does mean a lot🙏😊😊 It honestly doesn't make a difference in or out, depending on the weather. I usually keep them in my grow tent, or on the kitchen window, just to keep an eye on progress. I hope this helps out🙏

Wish me luck! I have some seeds from my home town in South Texas that my mom used to grow in her back yard. So, these seeds are very old , maybe 30 or more years, but I am very hopefully to get a successful germination . Thanks for sharing!

We hit 80 degrees a week ago, but now it may freeze this weekend, ....I live in NM. I bought a little package from the grocery store (so I'm not sure if these seeds will work? ) Any way I watched your video, and I have them in a container with miracle grow dirt, a baggy covering it and it's on my window seal, :P..... I have other plants on the window that are starting out and are doing good. so I'm hoping for the best!! i guess in a couple of weeks I should know if this works right? thank you Again.

I started red and orange pequin seeds like this on March 26. Yesterday, I checked both bags I put outside on day one and both have growth. I think it took longer than you bc the past week our temp was in the 50’s here in east Houston. I’m so excited bc my dad and uncle have tried and failed growing this plant from seed. They said it’s bc the seeds needs to pass through a birds digestive track, however, with my success that’s not true. I’ll try to post a pic here if I can.

Great video. I’m really interested in growing my own plant. I have a question. So I have a few peppers already. Mostly green and few red ones. Do I have to wait for the peppers to dry out before I use the seeds?

Question when would you start this process before transplanting grow chilies? For me Oct or November isn’t like end of fall entering winter ?

Aundon Martinez, thanks so much for watching & commenting!😊😊 Good question... It really depends on you. You can pretty much start them whenever depending on the weather & how cold it gets. But I would definitely start it when i am able to actually have them grow outside once i start them, so sometime in March for me. In your case, if i started them in Oct or Nov, i would keep them inside while they grow, cause it gets a bit crazy cold here during the winter... If that makes any sense?.. I've had some plants inside during the winter & still be fruiting just cause they didn't get the cold, so i hope this info can help you... I am going to start making new videos after i reach 1K suubscribers, so if you need any new videos on these, just lemme know😊😊

When do you transplant the sprouting seed into soil? When transplanting how far deep into the soil do you play the sprouting seed?
I transplant them a wk or two after they sprout & just put the soil part into the soil that I transplant them in, if that makes any sense?.. which is not too far into the ground

I always bring them indoors during winter if they are seedlings, otherwise, they are left outdoors if they are big. As long as the roots are good, they should return after winter. Thanks for watching 😊😊

How did you dry the peppers to get the seeds?
I place a napkin on a plate & peppers spaced out on it to dry. Hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching 😊😊
Well if it’s just starting out with the seed is what I mean .. how often do I water it
So, with seeds I started this way on the video, since the soil is damp, you should be good to go until you have sprouts & are able to uncover. When you uncover, that's when you decide when you need to water the seedlings or not, by the dampness of the soil, if that makes sense. But in the greenhouse, they usually stay good without needing to be watered. Hope this helps out

I have some dried pequin.. do I need a fresh one to plant?
No, dried is better. Just place them on the soil, give it a tad of water, place it in a baggie by the window & it's good to go. You should see growth within a few days & after about 2 wks, transplant them into a bigger container in/outside the house. Thanks so much for watching & good luck with yours!😊😊
how long do you keep the babies in the little greenhouse, before they'll be ok without it?
Until they sprout... You don't wanna keep them enclosed too much longer to prevent mold. Once you transplant them, I usually keep them in the shade for a bit, till they get bigger to not fry the young ones, & gradually putting them in the sun... Hope that helps, & thanks for watching

You usually don't have to add more water until you have to transplant them, hope that helps you out😊

Can you germinate them using a paper towel? Because I tried it with my habanero and jalapeños and it did grow but for this plant; its not germinating?

I did my pequin with the paper towel and they took just under 2 weeks to germinate. Longer than most.

It all depends on when you want to plant them. I can grow them year round, depending on the weather & whether i want to bother take them in during the winter or not. I have a few in pots that i will be taking in during the cold weather & they will continue to provide peppers. The others that are outside, if they look like they are dead, more than likely, they aren't, cause as long as nothing happened to the roots, they will grow again once the weather is nice. You will just have to cut off the dead branches.
How often do I water and how much
It doesn't matter how much you water it, it's how often. These plants will definitely let you know when it's thirsty. Just keep an eye on the leaves. Hope this helps😊😊

Hi dulce, thank you for your quick responce, i am actually trying to see how the chili piquin looks like as it grows, my problem is that i have a chili that died and many seeds where dropped on the ground, now i have little trees growing but i am not sure they are piquin since i really dont know how they look like when they are young, so maybe you can post a video help me and others how to identify a young piquin tree?...thank you!!

Yea, secret to getting these to grow anywhere: chickens or birds😏 we have 2 nice bushes in the front, & there are a TON in what used to be our flower bed, which now we're converting into a piquin/cactus bed... I will show my 6' one as well😊😊 i am so glad you took the time to respond back so quickly... I am also working on a "how to grow dragon fruit plant(s)" which i should have up by next Friday... Do I have to keep the pot moist
First, thanks for stopping in & checking out my video, it means a lot 😊😊 when it's in the baggie, the soil should stay fairly moist until you take it out & leave it out... If you put the seeds in water after a while the ones that float won't germinate, only the ones that stay on the bottom

You can buy actual piquin seeds from your local grocery store, if in Texas, they sell them at HEB, hope that helps😊😊
These Chiles look a lot like the chiltepin and not the pequin chile which are more shaped like a cone and not round like the ones in your video. Just wondering

The mockingbirds do LOVE them as well as every otber bird out here😆😆 they say the piquin are hard to grow, but I've got it down to a science... The piquin can be found at our local Walmart & grocery store. Guess that's why i don't see too many Tepin selling cause you can go down the street & find them growing like crazy😆😆
Dulce Amor Gamez I just moved to Iowa from California and unfortunately I can't find any of this Chiles I'm used to eating I might have to look online but I don't know how well they will grow here in Iowa it's super cold😣

+Dulci Piedrasanta i would usually water it every other day if it's hot weather. If not, just look at their leaves. If they look a little wilted than water. These are very easy maintenance 😊😊

+Dulci Piedrasanta the seeds don't need much water until they sprout... Then just take a look at the soil. They are so low maintenance they will grow no matter what, unless the freeze comes, then they will come back in the spring 😊😊

No one has ever planted this type of Chili, Chile del Monte (sometime mistakingly called “Pequin”) from seed. Chile del Monte which is the seed you show in your video, is planted naturally when birds, mostly the mockingbird, poops the seed it out from the peeper it eats and then it grows wildly where ever the the poop lands. I dare anyone to show on video Chile del Monte grown from hand planted seed.
I am confused by your comment... Thanks for checking out my video for starters, but yes, a little confused as to what you are questioning... So, whatever pepper I have started for this, the way I have started them is the way I had shared on the video... A lot of people think the only way this pepper plants can be grown is by bird, mainly the mockingbird, & although, that is true, which happens a lot on my property, but i have shown exactly how I truly did start these plants... I have another video proving this method to be true if you wanna see... Do I need to share a new 2022 video of how I start these peppers from seed, cause it's not hard to share, I would be delighted to prove you as well as a whole lot of skeptics out there that I can grow this plant easy, without a bird's help😁😁
