This version feels powerful. It makes me want to transcend reality and become an entity of existence. Just be a form of Being, away from our world, in order to achieve solitude from society. I don't know maybe I'm just crazy. I just want relief. I never would think that an arrangement of notes could bring back this feeling.
I remember seeing this go out as part of the BBC coverage of Glastonbury at the time I can not believe it’s now been 24 years, where has the time gone… A true timeless song. Thank you
This song is a true example of expressing your heart and being honest with yourself. Simple chord progressions with a sincere rhythm within his intimate lyrics. Beautiful piece of music.
Watched this when it was first broadcast, sitting up late with a mate when I was 16 years old. Touched me then and touches me now. Still my favourite song.
THANKS SCRUBS!!!! what a lyric! Women will never understand how a man can love!!! this song makes me fly!!! just to be with someone who is out of your league is another level!! thanks 4 posting this!
This song moves me! My mate did it at an open night they have at a local pub and it blew the pub away. All the comments about religion! It's how you perceive the lyrics. If your religious then it's you "praying" for god to watch over, if your not religious it's nothing more than a passing comment. A be safe or go well comment I'm not that religious probably go to midnight mass on Xmas eve that's it but this song is brilliant. By far the best song and all time favorite. If you can play the guita
This song is like some kind of magic and it's fun playing and listening over and over again ... This song means a lot which probably no words can express... ...may god's love be with you always...
Joseph Arthur is one of the greatest songwriters in the music industry. The lyrics are powerful and the melodies are just fantastic. Mixed with his remarkable voice it's a powerful combination that screams with emotions.
I first saw Joseph Arthur in Chicago in 1999. I went to a Ben Harper concert and stopped across the street from the theatre for a hot dog before the show. I was chatting with some lads who had went to the show the night before and they were raving about the show when the guy stopped talking and stared at a john lennon like figure walking across the diner. After he walked out the door, the guy told me and his other friends that the guy who just went out was the opening act and to get ready to be amazed. Well, he did put on an amazing show. His albums over the years have been eclectic and interesting, but hearing him play live and to watch him build up his songs as a one man band was captivating. I will never forget him playing mercedes live that night. The audience could not get enough. After the first encore, Ben Harper peaked out on stage and the audience booed for him to let Jo play more. Ben obviously was used to this by that point. Amazing artist, thank you for sharing this video to see him as he was back 18 years ago.
This was the first time I ever heard Jo. I've now seen him live 3 times and tracked down his entire back catalogue. Got me well and truly hooked, and this is still the song I come back to. Just beautiful
I'm not religious but I love this song, it's a nice personal song that is about someone grieving a death and I definitely know what it's like going through the pain of losing someone right now with my hero, my grandfather, passing away in June. I know it's been about 6 months since he passed away but it's not really getting easier till I put this on and think of the great times we shared.
Gitarre und eine bomben Stimme..mehr braucht es nicht, nach all den Jahren immernoch fetten Respekt für diesen Song !!!!! Ganz großes Kino #MuchoRespekt !!!!!!
took me to places i had not thought of in a long time. For music that is personal yet universal to me to all. I wish to encourage you to keep searching and shairing it with us. Your gifts are prechious beyond belief.

in my life, it's the first time that a song touches me, right in the middle of my heart... it's like i have understood everything but don't know what...i am in front of art, it's so beautiful, thanks for the video, this day was a day of Art, of feelings.
I remember the first time I heard him: live as an opening act about 5 years ago. Ah-mazing. He's an incredible live performer. See him live if you ever get the chance.
He's really brilliant. I met him in when he was in 8th grade and he would show off playing KISS baselines :D By the time he was a HS senior he was a "monster" bass player doing two hand tap stuff and playing out three times a week. A couple years after that something just clicked and he left all that behind and became the Musician he is today. Grats Jo love you man!!

12 Years is a long time to still reply to a comment, but tbh. at times like these, it would seem one of the few sane things to want.
