Agree on all points Pavlin 🙂 I would add:
    1. When it rains visor gives better proteciton from water ingress. Goggles alone will get the helmet padding wet which is annoying on long trips.
    2. Visor is warmer when the weather gets REALLY cold without needing a winter hood underneath the helmet.
I tend to use goggles when I'm doing some harder offroad as my MX helmet makes breathing easier and goggles protect my eyes on group rides without fogging as much.

Hi Pavlin, I totally agree with you. I crossed the Alps off-road and with my helmet and the visor it worked very well. I didn't take the Googles exactly because I found that it took away a lot of my visibility. I never had the slightest fog inside, I sometimes opened the visor a little and it was great.

I agree on to some extent reduced periferal vision, but comfort is very subjective.
In a recent video you mentioned the importance of riding with the visor closed to protect your eyes.
That is, in my opinion, an undisputable benefit of good and well fitting googles.
I used to wear contact lenses, try that with an open or even partial open visor, especially in dusty conditions. No way.
The options are there for every one to choose to his liking,

Yes, I do right sometimes with sunglasses on, but I can always close the visor on high speed or when weather changes. Also they don't limit my peripheral vision.

That illustrates it perfectly. It's frightening.
That's actually why I go ooen face with a full face travel visor. Full face protection with best visibility.
    Good one.

Couldn't agree more. This summer we rode 1000s km in Sweden, half on dirt roads. With the exception of 1% that was single track with low branches all the rest was much more comfortable with the visor. Just ended up having the goggles taking up space in our bags. For mx and enduro only for me 😀

I always carry a pair of goggles with me here in Australia, mainly for safety and comfort.
I don’t ride off road, but I do ride lots of dirt roads and dust is the reason, I want to protect my eyes, nothing worse than having no vision on a motorcycle.
On a hot day they are not great for ventilation but good googles will wick away most of the sweat but that is a mild discomfort compared to having dust in your eyes that can scratch the surface of your eyes and become a major irritant making your eyes water and severely affecting vision.
The time of year can also play a part, for example spring has a lot of pollen in the air that can get in your eyes causing irritation for some people so goggles can help with that but it all comes down to the individual as to what works and what doesn’t, a bit like helmet styles, for primary safety an open face helmet is the best because you have a wider range of vision but secondary safety is limited because of less protection than a full face which has more limited vision, so is it better to avoid an incident or be better protected when you do ?
    👍👍👍👍

6:55 I use a Quick Strap on my goggles so I can use a visor on road, googles in off road dust, and easily “store” the googles behind my helmet when I protect my eyes with the visor. QS’ make googles very easy to use. Best of both worlds if you are in a dusty place.

Thx for the video! You mentioned that you keep your visor clean, and scratch less. But when I’m riding during autumn, and we are camping (driving tet in Sweden for example) we are confronted with a lot of mud, rain, fog, sweat etc. sometimes the conditions are so bad that you need to wipe your visor dry with your gloves 🧤. This causes a lot of scratches.
How do you keep your glasses clear and clean during off-road trips.

Good advice. I use the same helmet as the one in your video and usually find no need for goggles. But now I do carry a pair of goggles as a back up if the visor breaks. That happened once when it got hit by a rock thrown up by a truck. It was pissing rain, and at the time I didn’t have a back up. The long ride home was wet, cold and miserable. Goggles would have been better than nothing.

You want something that's at least impact rated, and those probably aren't.
ANSI Z87 covers everything from chemical splashes to UV sunglasses.
If the goggles are impact rated, they should be marked either Z87+ or Z87-2+ if I remember right ("-2" for prescription), but the key part of the marking is the "+" for impact ratings. Not all Z87 rated goggles include impact protection.

    • @motorcycleadventures

Lots of valid points, but i completely disagree about the peripheral vision and also comments about being unable to wear glasses with goggles.
There are plenty of goggle that have outstanding peripheral view and also cater for glasses wearers with thousands of mx/enduro riders wearing glasses or using prescription lenses, not saying they are cheap but they are out there and I've used them. You have to go to the store and try several brands and each brands different styles until you find the right ones, just like buying glasses.
I have three brands of goggle here that have Zero impact on peripheral view, you cannnot see any of the goggle frame and combined with the two different brand enduro helmets i have, the eye port is so large it exceeds the peripheral view of any "adv" or road helmet i have or have ever tried.
Goggles have come a long way in the past 30yrs and the majority now accommodate glasses with no problem. The biggest issue i see and have experienced is that it is the helmet that makes wearing glasses a problem.
Especially when i see "adv" riders also try to wear goggles as well like they have seen some famous riders do, but with a helmet and visor combo that was never meant to have goggle worn with it and still maintain the visor.
Come winter the hardcore or ex mx/enduro riders will still wear mx helmet and goggles.
I do too, its become my preference as i get better a field of view and i can have a couple of spare lenses to suit all light conditions.
I have two of both brands of helmet and rotate helmets/linings as i wash/dry them.
If the rain stops for a length of time, the leatt mx helmet lining will actually dry on most occasions and not be a dripping mess in my tent that night. The airoh lining is better to remove and install being magnetic, but tends to take a while to dry out.
I also use a klim balaclava in winter that keeps my face warm and doesn't impact on my vison or wearing of goggles and glasses.
But i understand the problems :
Some mx helmets cannot shut the vents and end up wet through for days.
In temps below 0 deg this is not nice, especially when it then rains or snow.
Duct tape works but is not preferred it leaves sticky residue. Airoh enduro helmet come with parts to address wet weather, but it is not a slide to close answer, my leatt has no closing at all and is a cold helmet without the bally.
Carrying spare goggles or lens takes up room, even quick change lenses can be a real pita to swap in the wind and rain with thick gloves on.
A visor keeps the road salt off the lining and keeps most of the rain/snow out where the mx helmet and goggles become dirty/wet needing frequent washing of the goggle and helmet liner.
On long distance rides this is not tolerable for the majority of riders.
The best combination i had was a klim krios with the transition visor and fox/oakley goggles with a clear lens.
The best of both worlds for mixed riding keeping the wind, rain and sun out on the road, then hitting a trail simply lift the visor and have a nice clean goggle underneath and simply shut again when desired.
Unfortunately the klim helmets don't fit me correctly and comfort was an issue along with safety of a helmet with pressure points and the next size being way to big.
I ran two airoh commander helmets fluo yellow and orange for the dark winter period.
I had no quality issues like Pavin did, but the installed sun visor was poor, not enough tint, it steamed up and didn't come down far enough.
The same fox goggles that i used in the krios fit the commander perfectly and allowed the visor to be closed as with the klim, but i was then left without a sun visor and a photochromic visor is not available for this helmet.
That left me having to carry and change goggle lenses as the conditions changed.
The new Leatt adv helmet "maybe" the answer if birchy has had much input. Especially if they have managed to keep the weight down under 1500 grams.
That's another reason i went back to mx lids - just over 1000 grams on my head all day compared to the nex wedd 2 i had which was actually 2kg when i weighed it with a gopro on !
The aria and shoei were nice but both over 1.5kg + camera, on the road this was tolerable but tiresome off-road.
So i continue to be the goggle wearer year round, but watching for the release of the new Leatt "adv" lid with interest

Goggles are what you wear so your visor is not broken or scratched on trails. Visor is better for bugs than googles. My googles mostly are case for 2 pair of safety glasses one pair are sunglasses. Which I need riding to work. I took peak off but mostly ride with visor up and wind off semi's. At slower speeds googles work better for not fogging up. I would like a quieter helmet and more ventilation.

I am an enduro beginner. When I bought the Krios Pro Helmet, it was very noisy with the peak. I decided: it is useless on a long trip, so I put the peak in the luggage. I don't use earplugs, so helmet sound is the deciding factor. Another reason not to use a peak: the Klim helmet has good photochromic glass that stains when the glass is raised and lowered again. Of course, from the sun, everything smooths out in a few minutes, but it is unpleasant to look through a zebra.

My preference is an open face helmet and clear well fitted safety glasses. We communicate with people through facial expressions and a covered face feels like a handicap. Not being able to frown or smile at someone takes away from the pleasure of being around people.
I eventually did buy a full face helmet for safety and I hate it for the above reason.

Tried a full helmet but in a rainstorm at about 40 degrees F my shield fogged. When I opened the shield the foghing was reduced but the inside got wet and I couldn't wipe it. I now use an open face helmet with flip up shield. I can put my hand inside to wipe it. Successfully rode at 34F with heavy snow.
