  • Wow, what a project this was! We budgeted $1000 for this project, but because we had wobbly issues, we had to do further bracing which put us over budget. It was well worth the cost of $1800, and we absolutely love it! The hammock side was absolutely essential, and often times when the kids are in bed, we like to come outside and just swing and relax. It completes our backyard living.
Wood and supplies were purchased from Lowe's. The custom 4X4 used for bracing were purchased from a local lumber yard, called 84 Lumber.
All accessories were purchased from Amazon:
Hammock (Favorite Brand: La Siesta): amzn.to/3dOELfa
Hammock Swing Chairs (La Siesta): amzn.to/3f2E02h
    2 Playground Swings: amzn.to/30mpEG7
    Rope Swing: amzn.to/2MIKRBS
    Skateboard Swing: amzn.to/2Y9MVIA

I know this was posted a year ago but for anyone watching now. One reason it could be wobbly is because you don’t have enough of the post in the ground. Your supposed to put a third of the length of the post in the ground. So 1/3 in the ground 2/3 above. You probably don’t have enough post in the ground. For future reference. But this is so cute I love it!

I happened upon your video, and my one child is a teen, but I love this for ME!!!! Thanks for posting (over a year ago:)), it's so cool for right now, for my hubby and our and our outdoor fellowships, which we love to do. I will be showing this to him and extending our adult swing feature in our yard. Be blessed. Thanks again for sharing!

I LOVE this!! I saw a glimpse of it in another post and had to search your channel for a better view. And I am so pleased that I got a tutorial too.

Great job and solution to the wobble - the final version looks better. Your husband does look a bit grumpy though

He was a little grumpy when it wasn't working out the way he wanted it to. He's so happy with it though! We get use from it everyday! :)

Great video, thanks for posting! How is this holding up after a year? Do you feel like the bracing gives it enough strength for the swings?

Thanks 😊 We totally winged it. We just moved though and plan to rebuild a similar structure, so maybe in the future ❤️

Very beautiful and creative pergola. A contracture would of charged you $4000-$6000.

Great video, would you be able to tell me how you attached the swing seats to the structure? It is not very clear. Thank you!

I'm sorry about that! My husband just used a fish hook type screw. Very inexpensive to buy and the swings are holding up great!

I appreciate your video. TH-cam is a great place to get ideas of what do, how to do it, and how not to do it. Your video was a little bit of all of that mixed together. I would imagine the video has the potential to cause engineers to lose their minds. Your troubles appear to have started way back with the design. So much was later added above ground because of what wasn't added below the surface. Those holes were simply not wide enough for the space needed for the concrete. The width of those holes for a 4" post ought to have been at least 12" across.
