Actually, the trick to inserting this air filter is to pinch it together in the middle to make sort of a bow-tie shape, then you can angle it up from the floor. This will help keep the pleats straight and keep them from getting kinked. You don't want to bend it around a corner, like in this video. All in all, I agree, it's still more awkward than other cars, but if you do it my way, it's not so bad.
I wonder if Nissan intentionally design the air filter cover and the air filter position to make it more difficult to access and replace the filter ourselves.
@@ivanpadilla9875 I'm researching that job right now, and it's tricky but you can get at it by removing the pedal assembly and the bcm. no dish removal needed. we'll see if i can pull it off.
Start from the bottom and squeeze it in the middle, shimmy it up past the gas pedal. No need to bend it sideways. Once somewhat in, the edge will stick out. Squeeze or bend that a bit and get it fully inside and it will expand to it's normal shape.
That's the easy part. Doing the blower motor is a major pain. IF ANYONE SEES THIS, YOU DO NOT NEED TO PULL THE DASH TO REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR! Remove the accelerator and brake, heater duct, etc. and then move as much around as you can underneath, and you can wiggle your arm up into the top to get the blower out.
@@dam4274 i was thinking the exact same thing lol....im gonna attempt this over the weekend...dont like the idea of removing the gas pedal....lol. may try a block or brick to hold down the gas pedal though.....? to see if that will help any with getting around that corner....cause yea, looks silly to bend the filter like that

So... I called my mechanic for shitz and giggles to see what he would charge to replace the cabin air filter on my 2008 Nissan sentra ....lol his words were... Well around $120 for labor and $38 for the part.... and he would need to keep the car for 2 days because he needed to disassemble the brake pedal assemble to do it right.... I said Wow and hung up.... got on line and found this video and had it replaced in 10 minutes..."Disassemble the brake pedal system".... I don't know what kind of crack he is smoking but I wont be going back to him...
The dealer charge me less than that but is still too much knowing how easy it is to do it, even more when I've disassembled that plastic piece a few times already.
Thanks for the video. Just cjamged my filter just now. A pain in the a** to do it (and my poor lower back) but my Nissa's gonna be breathing good tonight!
I got lucky. My neighbor has a 2012 Sentra with 112,000 miles and the cabin filter has never been changed. I looked the first article about it, and it showed the filter behind the glove box( first stroke of luck). I get the glove box out and I don't see how to remove it. I definitely didn't want to break anything, so I looked hard and long at the replacement filter. I could see it sat in a slot at the bottom and there was a snap at the top, but I wasn't sure how to pop it off at the top. Then I saw a plastic flange about two thirds of the way up the filter that didn't seem to have anything really to do with the strength of the filter case. So, I thought maybe this would be a good grip for my pliers. That was it. It pulled right out...sort of. Just like the ones that pull out from the driver's side, it gets trashed coming out, but goes in very easy (second stroke of luck). This car may have been a mid-year change for the complaints about the old style. The VIN definitely states it is a 2012. So, which ever one you have, no need to check it, just replace it. There is no way to pull it without destroying it.
By chance can you get the part number of that plastic interior cover you removed in the beginning My car is missing that plastic cover that goes over all of the components
Wow.. what a design tragedy. Even Eric is breathing hard. I.. will faint. Be ready nissan guys. next time you want to change headlight bulb, you have to jack the car up, remove the engine, push the transmission away..make sure the break wires are replaced and finally the exhaust manifold is removed for better access. ..yeaa..yea.. its that simple on a Nissan.
You should have removed the gas pedal for us on the video because it's a straight shot with it removed. People won't want to bend their filter to install it. I wouldn't.... it doesn't seem right. Thanks Eric!
SuperDave21 the new filter I got for mine is like a foam and it goes in easy and can bend. Smells good too. Ya I've had plenty of nissan's and while I do like the sentra for daily driving, working on it is not fun. Oil changes are easy though lol.

Hi friend. Wanted to know if you could help me out. I have an 07 Nissan Sentra 2.0 automatic. I am getting horrible mpg! I get about 8-10mpg both in the city and hwy. I have new spark plugs, air filter, fuel pump, tires, battery, cat converter, cleaned MAF sensor, I've even tried fuel system cleaner and lacquer thinner in my tank. My car is missing the interior panel that he removed to gain access to the filter. Does anybody know what I need to search for to find it? I've tried to find it but have been in able to.
If you think this is stupid, try replacing the blower motor on this car. $1300 job and the dash has to come out. There are youtube videos on how to do it without removing the dashboard. but you have to be contortionist and bend your body in ways it should not be bent.

About the direction, it makes sense what Eric said with the arrow pointing to the back of the vehicle. @ericthecarguy hi, I have an issue with my 2008 nissan sentra. Ive taken it to about 5 mechanics and no one can tell me why my horn won't work,my cruise control also stopped working and now the airbag light for the driver side is on too. They have checked the fuses and relays were checked and they were all good. Any advice you might have for me is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Two months late, but based on the symptoms you described, your steering wheel clockspring went bad. Go to carparts.com and search for a new clockspring for your vehicle. If you do it yourself, be sure to disconnect the negative battery terminal at least 10 minutes before starting this job and try not to mess around with the airbag too much. When you take the airbag off, set it outside the vehicle with the airbag pointed UP.

ArT oF wAr just because there's worse cars doesn't exclude this one from also being bad, most of the other cars that I've changed the cabin air filter have it behind the globe box, many don't even need tools to remove the globe box and the ones where you do need a screwdriver it's still way easier

Honda is smart and puts the filter behind your glovebox. You don't have to get down like your trying to find your keys under the seat to change it.
