The stock antenna was engineered to monitor all frequencies that the receiver is able to monitor. The only downfall to all-band antennas, is the further you are from the radio broadcast or repeater, the reception gets worse. Sometimes you can resolve reception issues by relocating your receiver. Antennas that are designed to work within a specific frequency band that you're monitoring, will always perform better.
+Charles Lewis I did try holding on a couple precincts but I was shooting this video early in the morning and wasn't getting much traffic, so I opened up my scan list to scan the full county listing.
In my opinion, I think it’s hard to do a side-by-side comparison with scanners right next to each other, when I had two scanners in the same room, they both usually don’t pick up the same thing at the same time either onewill pick it up or the other
Nice video but I have a question about the sma to bnc adapter. I bought from you the antenna and the sma to bnc adapter that it is suggested on the antenna page of your store (BYYG1542001 ). The adapter simply does not fit the SDS 100, it is too big. I am not going to return it since there is always need for adapters but can you please specify the adapter you used in this video? thanks
+Mauro's Chronicles there is a specific SMA adapter for the SDS100 "BADG1278001". Return the "BYYG1542001" and we will send you the correct adapter, Also the SDS100 should have come with this adapter in the box. Did you not receive one?
@@Bearcatwarehouse thanks for your answer. The box did not have the adapter but the store where I got the radio gave me the right one. No need to return the wrong one since there is always a need for an adapter. Anyway, the antenna works great.
I would recommend the BNC style antenna, the antenna jack on the SDS100 has a water proof seal so the SMA style doesn't seem to fit very well. With the adapter on the radio the BNC style fits perfectly. In this video I'm using the BNC style with the antenna adapter.
I have been listening to scanners for over 40 years and I found that putting two scanners side by side for testing is a bad ideal. I have long suspected that one scanner is stealing signal from the other. It has always happened the same way, one or the other will pick up the call, rarely do they both pick it up at the same time. It is not proven science but just seems to be the way it works out.
+Basic Dos Gaming I think I've seen this comment on another video, once again that is unfortunate that your area is now encrypted. Thanks for the comment!
Its pretty sad you spend this kind of money on a scanner and you would think the damn thing should work. You shouldn't have to buy a brand new antenna seems like Uniden has some major problems with this scanner that they need to address before i even think of buying one
+Brian 3 This radio works and perfectly, With this stock antenna I have no issues receiving all open channels within the county I'm scanning in (Howard). I do have some issues receiving departments within adjacent counties like Baltimore which required the better antenna.
Bearcat Warehouse im just going by the other reviews ive watched with this scanner side by side with other scanners and this one is still scanning while the other one is picking up radio traffic. Id like to buy this but im not sure im looking at the G5 pager scanner but that doesn't have all the options a regular scanner does

Best way to compare would be to lock them on an individual precinct. But living in Balto Co, the 800 antenna works better.

+Mauro's Chronicles Happy to hear everything is working!
Any antenna will beat the factory one !!😎
I have one coming! But I want to ask about the lights on the Scanner! How do You make them work?
Would I be able to use something like a Pulse Larsen 764-869 MHz glass mount antenna for this scanner?
Ive had the same result with that 800mhz antenna vs the stock, the Remtronix does much better
Durable? Do you know where they're made?
@Steven Penny
The SDS100 is Water Resistant (JIS4/IPX4) & pretty durable. Uniden scanners are manufactured in Vietnam.
which is better for the SDS, The BNC or SMA Connector? I mean is it better to buy the BNC Antenna and use the SMA-BNC Adapter or buy the SMA version?
I would recommend the BNC style antenna, the antenna jack on the SDS100 has a water proof seal so the SMA style doesn't seem to fit very well. With the adapter on the radio the BNC style fits perfectly. In this video I'm using the BNC style with the antenna adapter.
thank you
So which won is the better one?
@Billy Driscoll
The REM antenna, We recommend the 820 or 842 versions.

Useless for Oz...
