I used a pipe bender to make a gentle "S" curve in 3/4" electrical tubing. ($8) 4 hose clamps hold it on top of the drive pipe. Exhaust comes out just in front of prop. Straight pipe, no muffler. Used the original manifold that connected muffler to engine. Just tured it upside down. Now it faces back instead of up. Split the end of the new pipe an inch or so, with hacksaw, to slide over the manifold, and hose clamped it on. The sound comes out 7' farther back and underwater. It is VERY quiet, especially at slower speeds. If I was doing it over again, I'd run it on the side, or under the drive pipe for even more quiet at full speed. Oh... I drilled a tiny hole (1/8") above water line, so a cooling motor won't draw water up into it. Works great. Great video. I admire your work. Your enthusiasm is awesome.
Ive had the same motor set up since 2015. Advice: 1. Always carry an extra prop and tools to swap out. 2. Keep a tube of that marine epoxy putty, that works underwater. And a small wire brush to prep the hole area. Nice rig. Great video.
That’s why I love that motor Phil. That boat was flying upriver. I think they make a kit where you can convert that 6.5 to 22 horsepower for around $750
When I was a kid, high school I had a Jon boat with a old 20 hp on it and my buddy had a pumpkin seed boat with a 20 on it, we put both motors on the Jon boat an made his brother sit in the front. His brother was scared. The boat flew was fun for a few hours. Then the transom cracked in the middle of the lake we almost didn’t make it back to the dock. Good ole days!
i know im late but i patched a hole in a fiber glass boat probaly 15 years with jb water weld and its still hold ing today and not showing any signs of failing any time soon the water weld cost like 5 bucks back then and actually had most of it left over
I love the Flintstones ingenuity at the beginning, worked pretty good and gave me a chuckle. I'm really impressed with how quick that kitted mud motor will move that little Jon and how fast it will move. Be sure to let us know the titling process goes. That is the major hurtle for a lot of us would-be Jon boat builders. Because here in my neck of the woods the delta between two identical boats, one with title and one without, is about $1000.
Yep, I hope I can get it figured out with the title. I don’t wanna make this boat a private water only boat or else I could get a fine from a warden. The last option for this boat is if I buy another 10 foot jon and combine them and make the worlds longest jon boat, ha thanks Tim
Does the AlumiWeld rods work? All you need is a propane torch. An old trick we used back in the day was to remove the drain plug while going to let the water drain out. Just need to remember to put it back in right before you stop.
Thanks for the vid. I have the same Alumacraft, boat only in 12 feet instead of 10. It is a model 1232 - roughly 12 feet long overall by 32 inches wide at the bottom. Mine is close to the same year too, as it has the exact same version of the Alumacraft decal. It's a great creek boat, but a bit tippy, and I would hate to know I had to stand up in it at speed to steer the motor. Currently it has a new Suzuki 6 HP outboard, which planes it out just fine with 200-300 pounds of people in the boat, but not so much with 400. I am also researching which 196-212cc mud motors would best allow for sitting while running at speed. If I must stand, I would feel a need to fabricate some sort of sturdy rail to hang onto. I realize I'm late with a response, but since you asked - I have seen aluminum boat repair sticks, and used to have a few back in the 90's. They were green, about 3/8 thick by 12 inches long, and were made of some sort of semi-flexible plastic or rubber. The friend who gave them to me said you just pound the damaged area back to shape as best as you could, heat the area with a torch, and then melt these into any remaining leaks for a quick and easy, yet permanent repair. They were supposed to work really well on leaky rivets too. I was really proud to have them at the time, but never actually had to use one and have since lost them in a move, but I'm sure you could google around and find something similar. It still seems like a great, viable option to me. I know there are also coatings that can be applied to the bottom of jon boats that will seal up small leaks, as well as provide various other benefits, like noise reduction and less friction on any solid objects you might encounter and need to slide over. Anyway, Thanks again. 👍
I liked the motor when it was stock but when I upgraded it was a big difference. It runs so much better with the upgraded carb too. You should take your out and test it Gonzalo
looks like fun, I have an expensive kayak with all bells and whistles but sometimes I feel like I should've had bought a bass boat with a gas motor and go fast but I really like my kayak and how simple they can be to bad I'm not a millionaire or id have them both.
Yep I agree have them all. I like kayak fishing but I also like being able to go the same places as my kayak but cover way more water. Its all about what kind of fish you wanna do. Sounds like you have it figured out rodrigo
Nice job man check out the Wildcat 223cc I have one on my 16 foot Coleman Scanoe RamX loaded down with my dog and gear I get 17 to 18 mph GPS certified. BTW That’s why I run plastic boats Rocks & this type of environment just is so hard on aluminum cuts like butter around my area in Montana. I got some HDPE boats coming!
@@TBassFactory yes sir hey Derrick I just got a jon boat today for a hundred bucks too but I have no idea how to get her water ready do you have any tips like some coating to put on it or anything
My dad used to have a Jon boat with a mud motor he built out of a 670cc harbor freight engine that thing hit like 18,19 mph with 3 people and decoys and shit in it
You can register the motor with Texas but from what I’ve seen there are not a lot of boats that have them both registered. Usually the boat gets registered with title and the boat id is for the registration.

I have a similar setup for times when needed.

Derrick that’s real fast, that mud motor is the way to go you flew through the river. A lot cheaper than a new 5 HP outboard. Great video!

No outboard motor could go where he did. And he went there, FAST!
Hey, I got 2 of those predator motors for my Go Karts, 1 is new and the other is not but both run.... I need to try converting them like your motor.
Oh yeah Lupe you could easily do that if you already have them and put them on the pelican. I got my long tail kit on mudskipper. I think it was $350.
Super easy to do check out our channel might help give you some ideas

Been running this same setup on the Missouri river for a few years now , works great , surprised more people aren't using them up here ( Montana).

Yeah they sure do. They act just like solder. I’m definitely gonna have to seal it up with those Ben. Probably the easiest and cheapest way.

What a boat!!! Looks like you had a good time!!
It’s a good one. I had a blast
We love our ten ft longtail builds they have done great for us
One yeah. I love my long tail on the river. So much fun
I recommend a Robertsons Torque Tube Looped Header for even more torque & power… believe it or not you are losing a lot out of that open pipe.
I’m gonna have to look into that max. Thanks bud
@@TBassFactory anytime man I enjoy your content
JB weld in a emergency or simple repair has worked for me.
Yep ol job weld has saved the day a lot for me too. My job supply was empty when I was down at the river. It would of fixed that leak no doubt.
I look up to you man your spirit of adventure is contagious
Ha, yeah I think I was meant to be an explorer. I appreciate that Michael
Man I just put the stage 1 kit on my predator 212. Haven’t taken it out on the water to test it yet but man the one you have sounds really good.

I got that mud motor kit from mudskipper.com for around $350 it might of went up in price
Hey while you're at home go to west marine and get J Flex clean the area and put that on the hole that's what I used

I have a 14ft flat bottom iv wanted to make an air boat with.

Can you go through rapids
Yes I’ve ripped upstream and went fishing. That motor pushes a boat upstream where people tube through.
