This was my first SLR camera, which I loved when I first bought it around 1976. I recently tried out this camera's predecessor, the Zenit E, and its successor, the Zenit TTL, and both gave great results, but they are so very basic compared to the Japanese and even East German film cameras I now love so much. A very useful and informative video!

Thanks! That's true! I've used the Practika Ltl-3 and I was quite surprised with how much more advanced it is, with a vertical metal shutter instead of the cloth shutters in the Zenits. I still like using the Zenit EM though, it is very different experience from other SLRs.

That is such an awesome camera! Are you doing these shots in a light box?

Yeah it is quite a special camera! I don't directly use a light box but almost, I use one big video light with a few reflectors around the camera.

Hello. Thanks for nice video. I got Zenit EM couple days before, and it hasn’t shutter speed number on it. Do you have any idea what I can do about it? Thank you in advance!

After using half my film i.e shooting almost 18 shots , the shutter speed label ( the black line ) changed to undesired shutter speed , and now to guess which shutter speed i am using i have t o manually lift that up and guess from the duration of the rotation of the knob. Do you have any idea on how to fix this? I changed the ss only after winding the film not before

Well, the Soviet cameras do have a lot of mechanical bugs! I've had something similar happen on a Zorki-4 (which has almost the same shutter mechanism) by moving the shutter dial at the wrong time. Over time it corrected itself when using the camera. It's a different cause than your problem's so I don't know if it will fix itself or not.

For rewinding we have to rotate clockwise?
