After the cancelation of all highways being in massachusetts. There were no public transit expansion outside of 128 loop, major improvement on US-1 north of Boston, the Southeast, northeast and northern expressways.
No highway just traffic because it was never completed. Drug filled, disgusting abandoned buildings. They stopped the highway, trashed the neighborhood and the everyone is still paying the price today with traffic.
10000000% 15,000 people? How about the millions who work in Boston? Love how their selfishness self-imposed their own destruction, karma at its finest. Now it's being gentrified, the karma keeps going.
Better off having a mini garden state parkway and new jersey turnpike style highway on current northern, southeast expressways and expansion during the big dig. At least it will handle the traffic better. Also, expand the public transportation outside of route 128.
Why was that huge area allowed to remain vacant and unused for so long?
The banks redlined the neighborhood.
Good. The movement was selfish 15,000 people? Pretty sure a highway there would have benefited millions today.@@Apelles42069
Economic decline of Boston in the 70s and 80s. Including the arson epidemic in early 80s and crack epidemic in the 80s and mid 90s.

Is the highway still there?
It was never completed

Nope. It was never built. Instead the SW Corridor got built in its place where the Orange Line and , Commuter Rail, and Amtrak trains run today
Housing units where maybe 1% is affordable
Where does Boston get its drinking water??? Four towns were taken in central MA. in the 1930's.
imagine if we had a highway there, we could have cut commute times by 1/2, it was an ugly building anyway.

Should have just built the damn highway.
