This is not only a prime example of sheer greed but just as bad is the damage it will do to other genuine charities who will have lost the trust of some of their donors .
His daughter and her husband are an utter disgrace and for me they have been treated leniently while deserving every bit of criticism they receive.

Former charity lawyer here. The problem is that people only really see negative stories like this and the, incorrectly, extrapolate to all charities. The reality is that the vast majority of charities are relatively small organisations run by very decent people who are not paid particularly well. But what people need to understand is that for a charity to grow, and for larger charities, it is necessary to employ people who have sufficient commercial experience to help build the organisation because, like it or not, charities are also businesses and have to compete for scarce funds. Good business people cost money. Finally, the days of charities getting most of their income from legacies are long gone, so they have to compete for grant funding and increasingly contracts for the delivery of services. Don’t be swayed by the few bad eggs, without charities the social safety net would be even weaker than it already is, they do a huge amount of good.

If the books were marketed as in support of the Sir Tom Moore Foundation, but no money went to it, surely that is at least obtaining money by deception? It can’t be right that his daughter is allowed to walk away with £1.5 million.

She wanted £150k as a charity director because that's the going rate for one in the UK. It's why I only give money to small local charities. I don't want my donation going to the salary of some " captain of industry" brought in to run a charity.

Here in Sweden I remember the head of the Red Cross was picking up a huge salary. Why do they need to pay, isn’t there any retired top manager that wants to show some goodwill late in life after building a fortune. Isn’t there a single one that can do that for two years and then pass it on to the next one?
Wouldn’t that be nice in the UK too.

While 150K is not low it is hardly a captain of industry salery either average pay for FTSE 100 company CEO is £4.19 million. In some cases we talking organisations with turnover between 500 milion and a billion a year. Also you got at internal structure. If you reduce CEO pay to under 100K what do want the finance director, head of fundrasing, policy etc to earn? You got leave some space for wage differentation. If a charity is turning over more than 200 million I don't see the issue with a £150K salary. You don't want someone running a organisation of this size as a hobby for 2 years but someone who will commit a career to it, they need to be peoperly paid.

By removing charitable status the crown can tax the funds as income. By prosecuting for fraud or lesser crimes, the public can seize the funds, yes. I worked in the charity sector for more than 20y, lastly as a non-financial auditor, boards snd trustees do make mistakes as the lady says, it would have been "cleaner" if the family had had as little hands on involvement as possible. In terms of obscenely high salaries, in my experience there were people like myself, who accepted a lower salary to work in the charity sector, when high numbers of ex-local authority officers and ex-civil servants became involved huge amounts of empire building went on, several layers of additional management were created and then the cronyism began.

He'd have seen and signed the contracts - by all accounts, he was compos mentis. That's a plausible account, I think.
Now, had they just made the single donation of his charity monies raised, and not created the Foundation, they could have quietly pocketed the book money. People without a charitable bone in their bodies suddenly creating a charity - yeah right!

I-think sir captain Tom would like his family to take a little money.maybe start looking at how much the other charity bosses are taking in salary up-to £200000 for the major hight street ones and the facts that uptp 97 % doesn’t go to charity

I never donate money to charities because by the time everyone has taken hardly any money goes where it’s supposed to go

No she's not a typical Brit as you comment, she's a type of brit that fortunately is rare. Greed got the better of her and her husband. They thought they could shaft the donors

I believe the NHS received £39 million for Capt Tom‘s effort? That’s a tidy Sum and well done, wherever that went is anybody’s guess. The family wrote a book on the efforts of them and Capt Tom, a family history, a family life. Therefore the family has every right to claim the money from the Books. Like Captain Tom, I would want to see my family honoured and protected by mine and their efforts. The book like any book went for sale and people bought the book obviously they wanted to read their story.
Their are countless allegations of ministers lining their pockets during the Covid fiasco and that was taxpayers money. 😂

The man raised 40M, I think his family should get something. 1M from a book deal seems fair. Would you not have done the same?
Prob not 😂, I’m sure the perpetually enraged would have better morals.

Thieves, like this greedy stuck up family should all be in jail with their property forfeited. Total disgrace. I will not be giving to any charities in the future; all trust gone. Very pretentious with the blue blazer, grey flannels, medals, publicity seekers for their own gain. What a nerve ! ☹️
