That's wonderful to hear Magdolna. So glad you are getting back into the game. There are lots of videos on 7s and Aces, it's the newest way to play, however there are other Canasta game equally fun. You did a great job teaching. I love the intellectual strategies needed to play a good game of Canasta. It seems unfair to me the minimum raises as your score raises as it handicaps you for being in the lead and gives the other guy an advantage. There's been times I've never met the minimum and was set back over a thousand points. I've also noticed unless I'm dealt a joker, I have little hope of reaching the 120 in time. It's also frustrating I can't go out until I have a Canasta because sometimes I'm left in the endless cycle of drawing a card and discarding a card relying on my partner to Canasta. And if I want a fair shot at taking the stack when it's frozen, I might play half a game purposely not melding so I can try to have a natural meld to get the stack. It's a very enjoyable game but with just a couple of inherent flaws.

thanks you for your kind comment. Just to clarify the Canasta I am teaching has opening initial melds at 125, 155, 180 based on your cumulative score. I would agree sometimes it doesn't seem fair but I like that you have a chance if one hand was the pits. This game we need 2 Canastas to go out. Maybe try holding on to some cards in the end until you can set up your hand better to go out, so it isn't a cycle of drawing a card and discarding a card relying on your partner to get a Canasta. We also do not freeze the deck that you mention. I am hopeful some of the videos can help you in your Canasta game. Be sure you don't get confused watching these videos are on Modern American Canasta. Sounds like you might be playing a different variation. I love the game also, I see a lot of table rules and every one plays just a bit different. But have lots of fun just the same. Enjoy!!

Thank you great topic. I learn so much every time I watch your videos. I have a question about opening with Aces. Once your opponent opens with Aces should you give up on opening with them? Sometimes I need them for my opening meld count, but can see I never will close them.

Great Question about Aces, if the other teach opens with mixed Aces, you can absolutely open with mixed Aces. I try to open another way and reconfigure cards but often it's my only option opening with mixed Aces also. Only one team will be able to make a mixed Ace Canasta. Be mindful if the other team has 4 pure Aces and wilds, your team will not get a Canasta. The Ace you pick up, might be better discard (safe) rather than melding it. Yes you are correct. You get the bonus points for the special canasta plus the individual card values. So for example Canasta of sevens is 2500 plus 35 points for the 7-sevens

The game ends 3 ways 1) no more cards in the stock pile 2) you have 2 canastas and you can get rid of all the cards in your hand or 3)special hand.
