    I love Dominoes! One of the most important strategies is to count the pieces and guessing which ones the other players have, sometimes you lose but when you win it feels awesome! 😎 Great game!

    Regarding playing all four sides of the first double domino that is laid down, Chris just clarified this to me that it occurs on every round of a game, even if it's not the first domino laid down, as after the first round that domino could be just a regular non-double, and a player afterwards could lay down a double, and that double is the 4-way playable piece: As he stated: "So the first double laid down in any round gets the 4 sided attribute, it doesn't matter if it comes after the first player's turn. That's the standard way to play by the rules, but sometimes house rules say otherwise." - Thanks Chris!

      how can a non double be played from 4 ends? like a 5:3 for example, one end you can play a 5 and the other a 3 but what about perpendicular ends, can you play a 5 or a 3?

    • @UndergroundNetwork
      @UndergroundNetwork หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TonyTheBro1 a non-double cannot be played on 4 sides. In each subsequent round after the very first round, the first double laid down becomes playable 4-ways. Only the first double laid down each round is playable four-ways all other dominos are played normally (even if they are doubles.)

    We always had dominoes as kids, but no one ever showed us how to play. This is the first time I've ever seen the rules.
    So what did we do with all those dominoes people kept buying for us? (wow, I just had to look this up because I never knew the name for it!): domino toppling
    I feel like I just learned a lot more than I usually do on a Friday night. I had better stop now.

    Thanks for the explanation... I've binged your videos and now have at least one app for every game you've covered. As a trucker, they're great for down time when I have nothing to do but sit and wait, so I have plenty of time to -play with myself- play games by myself.
    Do you see yourself branching into Eastern games in the future?
    Pai Gow is a game that uses a totally different set of dominoes (some casinos have it), Mahjong is similar to gin rummy and uses a set of tiles (cards exist), several dice games come to mind (Jhandi Munda/SEE BO/fish, prawn, crab), and a variety of games exist for Hanafuda and Kabufuda decks.
    If it isn't in your plans, then I hope it stays in your back pocket in case you ever think you've run short on ideas.

    An alternative way to start a game(instead of using the highest double domino) is to have each player pick one domino from the pile. The player that has the most pips(spots) on their domino starts the game first. The next player to the left of the starting player will start the second round, and so on moving in a clockwise direction(to the left). The player that downs(to start a round/hand) may play any domino they wish. This rotation of the start of a round/hand is called "rotate the down."

      @@Play-In-Games Thanks so much for the super-quick reply. Follow-up question. If the person who starts does not play a double, but rather, their highest pip-value domino, what happens when someone subsequently plays the first double of the game? Can it be played on all four sides (because it was the first double played in the game) or can it only be played on the two ends (because it was not the first domino played)? Thank you!

  • @mackenzie_morelli7512
    @mackenzie_morelli7512 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great explanation of the rules. Thank you for that. I do have a question though regarding scoring. If there are still dominoes left in the boneyard, but neither player has a playable piece and must pass, how does the scoring work? Is that the same as the stalemate when all of the boneyard is used up?

    • @Play-In-Games
      @Play-In-Games  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yea, great question. As long as there are dominoes in the boneyard players can take dominoes one at a time until they have a playable domino, and they can’t pass until the boneyard is empty. Once the boneyard is empty and all players pass, a stalemate occurs and no scoring is possible. I hope that makes senses. Thanks!

    Hi! Thank you for the video. I have been getting into dominos with my buddy lately and we also play dominos the same, except players can also score by having a trail ending summation of dots being a multiple of 5. I hope that makes sense, but say the first player of the game lays down a 5-5, they also get 10 points. We also round points up or down to the nearest 5. Do you have a video on that domino version? • @Play-In-Games
      @Play-In-Games  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Perhaps if the laid out dominoes were different but in the case of what was laid out in this example, holding the 3-5 would give less options than more. For example if you instead played the 4-4 and your opponent played off of the 3 side of the 3-6 and left a number that was neither 3 nor 5 you would be forced to take dominos from the boneyard next turn.

  • @imalchathu

    Hi, I’m new to dominos. Isn’t the piece you are moving due to no space at 3:51 wrong? Because its 6&4 and the piece after is 5&4 or doesn’t the order matter?

    • @Play-In-Games
      @Play-In-Games  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As noted in the video’s description…
      Correction: At 03:58, there is an error with the 4/5 sequence; it was reversed and mistakenly played off of. If such an error occurred during actual gameplay, that move would be invalid. However, for the purposes of this tutorial, please disregard it as it does not affect the main demonstration. If this mistake bothers you, I sincerely apologize for any confusion.

    I'd prefer that, if a player doesn't get a playable domino from the Boneyard, they pass the turn. That way they won't necessarily stack up multiple unplayable dominoes. Then again, drawing multiple times in a row is a funny "oh man!" moment when playing with friends.

      @@Play-In-Games true! Well first off we play with double nines as our max, we play 10 each, and there’s only two way you can go, you can do that weird octopus thing that’s in the video where you can just stack it on a random middle piece, only on opposite ends. We play to 100, winning team counts losers pips, losing team gets zero points on losing rounds. Dead games are broken up by whoever has the least amount on a single hand, not the combined team.

      @@OnyxOxyde This is great, thanks! Are these PR or DR rules? Or both or from elsewhere? I'll have to do an updated version.

      @@Play-In-Games well all of my friends here in Miami are Cuban, but we kind of mix and match the best of Cuban/DR/PR rules, nothing specific, just whatever we think would be the most enjoyable way to play :)

    My son and I play and there is absolutely no challenge. Just match the pips. It is easy and nothing fun about it. I’ve watched several videos to make sure I am playing the right way and I am. But no challenge.
