My favorite Bealtles song. It really erks me when they keep spelling it like this...on the original albums, it is spelled Meshell...i named my daughter after this song with that spelling...I saw it spelled this way on original albums. Pronounced Me Shell.

This was Paul's party trick as a young teenager. He used to play this in a room at a party and hope it impressed the girls because he could sing in French!
John and George tend to have the same voice when singing , but Paul has many different voices. His Little Richard is amazing.

This is what narrow-minded people with poor musical taste and little understanding of music say.
I can understand if the Beatles don’t grab someone’s attention, but if a person doesn’t understand their significance in the development of rock music, then this characterizes him in a certain way.
In my opinion, coming from someone who grew up with the Beatles. When people including the band started worrying who sang what (and who wrote what) it tore them apart. I listened to "The Beatles" not the individuals (until they broke up).
I also remember a poster in my music teacher's room.
The 3 Bs in music,
Bach, Beethoven and the Beatles.
I still go by that theory.

He's met a French girl who doesn't speak English and he's trying to get through to her. That's why the French. The only words he says in English that she can understand are "I love you".
The French actually translates to "(ma belle) my beautiful (Sont des mots qui vont très bien ensemble) Are words that go very well together (Très bien ensemble) Very well together" In whole it translates to "my beautiful, Are words that go very well together. Very well together"
I’m happy that you were so enthralled with Michelle. It’s certainly a Beatles classic. Paul was only 23 years old when this was recorded. It appears that you’re only familiar with Paul’s vocals as a seventy something year old man. ( I don’t have to tell an opera singer what age does to a voice, do I?)
To get a better handle on on the difference between John’s ( Beatle) voice, and Paul’s, I suggest that your next Beatles reaction should be “It’s Only Love “. Recorded by a 24 year old John Lennon around the same time as “ Michelle “. One of John’s greatest vocal performances.

The story is that Paul did a LOT of screaming in the days leading up to recording "Oh Darling" because he wanted his voice to have a ragged sound. It worked. For more of his sweet voice listen to "Yesterday". It's beautiful and one of, if not the, most covered songs in their catalog.
Yesterday is in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most covered song
Paul is the man of the thousand voices. He actually wrote this song. When Obama was selected president for the first time, he invited Paul and some other artists. Paul sang this song and dedicated to the first Lady. It was funny cause he said to Obama pardom him for this. They were smiling and singing along. You can find the video here of that memorable moment.

By far not the first. There are many reactions for Michelle.
what many still don't understand about the beatles is that they invited EVERYONE to enjoy them.
they wrote songs in french, they wrote a song about the soviet union, they wrote kids songs, they wrote songs about old people, they recorded german versions of 2 of their biggest early hits ("she loves you" and "i want to hold your hand"). they added indian instruments to some of their songs, sometines horns. they wrote songs for hippies and squares, they covered motown songs appealing directly to blacks. they delved into country and western and even comedy songs. they wrote love songs and protest songs. acid rock and tin pan alley type songs. they were hard core rockers and melodic balladeers.
the WHOLE WORLD was invited to enjoy the special talent and charm the beatles had offer. they were very special indeed.
I absolutely love the Beatles. I’m so happy I was born when I was! To hear them when they existed was magical. So now I’m older but wouldn’t give up any of those years.

This is Paul, he actually knows a little French in general, when it comes to the Beatles, I know nearly everything but on about this one band, I know every song of the Beatles
Every Beatles fan will recognise the voice straight away. Especially since his singing in Michelle is very typical for his quiet love songs. Others are e.G. And I love her, Yesterday. In general, McCartney and Lennon are very versatile with their voices and at home in many different genres, from love songs, distorted psychedelic tracks to hard-hitting rock ('roll).

I was 10 years old when this was initially released. Since my name is Michele, I was immediately in love with this song. My family and friends would always say, “there’s your song” when it played on the radio.
I jokingly told people for years Paul wrote it for me. Even my dad who wasn’t a Beatles fan would sing the first line occasionally to make me laugh.

@@MusicLover-dt7ic That’s cool. I never thought my name was the actual spelling of the song. I just loved it because it sounded like my name. In Kentucky in 1965, my name was uncommon. Hearing it on the radio was a treat. Simple fun. 😀

This brings back memories of 1968 my eight grade dance and my first slow dance with Cynthia. I have no Idea what happened to that girl but that moment comes back to me whenever I here this song.
I actually saw the Beatles live in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1963. Even with speakers right by our heads it was almost impossible to hear them with all the screaming going on. It was such a thrill and they still are one of my all time favorite bands of all time
McCartney called the Rubber Soul album "the beginning of my adult life".
For awhile there earlier in their career John and Paul were really hard to distinguish from each other
With the great middle-period albums Rubber Soul and Revolver, the group left Beatlemania behind and began creating more complex music which wasn't peformed while touring, which they gave up in the summer of 1966.
I like your description of "middle period," it seems like they did less "pop" and more rock, before they went psychedelic, my favorite Beatle times

At 7:50, If you want to find MORE PAUL, consider if it is a love song, it is probably Paul. He was accused of writing too many love songs, so he wrote "Silly Love Songs" (PM&Wings)
Paperback Writer and Rain would be a great combo to react to because they were both on the same single release and were not album tracks .They were very different than anything before then until Revolve was released

No-one could sing a gentle love song in quite the way Paul did it, always so simple and sincere, pitch perfect, every little inflection and nuance perfectly judged to serve the song, not draw attention to the singer. I think that's what makes them timeless in their appeal.
Try 'And I Love Her', or 'For No-one' (original recordings) for other examples of Paul singing in this style.
In contrast, listen to his rendition of 'Helter Skelter', or blowing the roof off with a Little Richard cover like Long Tall Sally/ Have Some Fun Tonight'.

I haven’t heard this for a while. I was 10 when this came out. You have no idea of how little brothers can change this song. No one’s name was Michele back then. Growing up I ran into two while moving around the country as my dad worked for the military. I love the song now and thank you so much for reacting to this. All my girlfriends were jealous that I had a song with my name by Paul McCartney. It was an interesting time. The Beatles are still my favorite group. Beatles Forever! ❤️🍀🙏🏻😇❣️
After doing two covers on the first two LPs, Paul produced one showcase ballad for each of the next five albums: And I Love Her, I'll Follow The Sun, Yesterday, Michelle and Here, There And Everywhere.

Great reaction. My suggestion for comparing lead vocals from the same time period would be these three from Abbey Road: Come Together (John), Oh! Darling (Paul), and Here Comes the Sun (George). Throw in a fourth, Because, to hear all three in flawless harmony, and a fifth, Octopus's Garden, to hear one of Ringo's best as a Beatle.

McCartney love ballad, complete with schoolboy French. The group didn't release it as a single, but it was a hit for the British duo David and Jonathan in 1966.
If you want to know John's voice well, you can listen to Revolution, The Ballad of John and Yoko, A Day in The Life, Help, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, etc.

Rule of thumb, whenever I hear a Beatles love song it's Paul; at least that's how I've always understood it my 61 yrs. John sings socially oriented songs, Ringo sings silly songs, George sings deep thinking, religious and philosophical songs. Not always true and generalized point of view but I think it is a good template for guessing the voice.
I recommend you react to Paul singing "Got To Get You Into My Life." It's from the Beatles "Revolver" album. I think you'll hear another side to his voice.

Couldn’t sound more like Paul, lol. He is able to do many different things with his voice, but this is pure Paul. He used to sing this as sort of a joke at parties, mumbling pseudo-French, hoping girls would think he was a cool French art student (before fame, obviously). John suggested he write some real lyrics and make it a real song. He doesn’t speak French, so he asked someone (I can’t recall who) to write a line in French that rhymes with “Michelle.” In interviews around that time I’ve seen reporters interviewing John and being impressed that the Beatles were writing standards like “Yesterday” and “Michelle,” which must have ticked John off a bit since they were both written and sung by Paul. He brought “Yesterday” up repeatedly, most famously in his dismiss track to Paul, “How Do You Sleep,” released soon after the band’s breakup. (“All you done was Yesterday, and since you’ve gone you’re just Another Day,” “Another Day” being a hit song for Paul after the breakup.

It later became a big singles hit in Britain, but it actually reveals Paul's ability as a romantic writer - perhaps reaching out to a country traditionally sceptical of British pop.
Paul is actually the Man with the 1000 voices, his vocal range is A1-E6 but most importantly he could adapt to what the song needed. Best examples of that are Maybe I'm Amazed, Golden Slumbers (of course) but mostly You Never Give Me Your Money, in which he changes his voice three times. I think he is the most versatile pop-rock singer that ever lived...
At that age John, Paul and George all sounded remarkably similar.
I was hard core into the Beatles in the 60's and early 70's! Still listen to them often!
Even though it's from their earlier days, the reason why I know it's Paul, is that it doesn't sound like John, George, or Ringo, although, listening to them since the '60s , it's pretty easy to tell them apart, Michelle, is an absolute classic, among a catalog of timeless hits

That's is SO Paul..They all have very distinctive voices. It's funny, I have listened to them since the beginning, and I remember not being able to pick them out, at first..After a while it's so obvious, because they really don't sound alike, at all..I guess your ear has to build up a callous, over a short while...That's a guitar finger joke.
Maybe it is because he is focused on the French lead up that his voice is slightly reflecting that.
I enjoy watching you do these reviews and discovering this music. I also enjoy when you sing a few bars along with the song. It adds to the experience. However, I do feel bad for people who haven't had this music in their lives. Those of us who have lived through those early days of music have heard some of these songs play in our heads hundreds of times a day. When days are going good, when days are going bad. It is this music that keeps us smiling and going through the day.
This is as Paul a song as you can get.
The Beatles and the Beach Boys inspired each other to greater heights. Paul particularly liked the Beach Boys song from their Pet Sounds album God Only Knows. You might want to give it a listen.
Or just listen to "Back in the USSR", a Beach Boys parody that's about RUSSIAN girls at the height of the cold war.

You can tell it’s Paul by the content and overall vibe of the song. John didn’t write sappy happy love songs
John received some money for his 21st birthday and he took himself and Paul off to Paris for a week on the pull so a bit of French would help (It was also where Jurgen Vollmer gave them both the famous mop top hairstyle). Also Paul's party piece when he was a teenager was to pretend he was a French beatnik (existentialist) and play Bouree in a moody and mysterious way at John's Art School. In the UK in the 50s and 60s the French were regarded as lovers when the English were still Ice Cold
During Beatle times Paul came with many many difrerent tones on his voice. He was literally the man of 100 voices. The Helter Skelter-Ive got a feeling voice is very different from the Get Back sound. Shes a woman has a voice that is so unique and then even with Wings you have things like Monkberry Moon Delight or My Love.
If I remember correctly, Paul wrote the beginnings of this song, especially the French parts, to impress girls at parties. It was John who encouraged him to finish it.
Maggie, I am trying to make my peace with this song. Here is why: A boy that had a huge crush on me in high school used to follow me around and sing this song to me. It was so embarrassing. After watching your reaction, I can really see what a beautiful song it is.

The Beatles along with producer George Martin were continually experimenting in the studio speeding up slightly slowing down slightly changing things all the time and their voices double tracked in order to achieve completely different sounds on every song

Great song expressing the feeling of young love from a romanticized perspective.
As far as mellow songs go, give a listen to, "Til There Was You", "P.S. I Love You", "All My Loving", "A Taste of Honey", and "And I Love Her"...after these you'll recognize Paul's soft styled early Beatles voice. He and John's harmonies on, "If I Fell" are amazing!

My Great Grandfather and his twin brother were both trained pianist and violinist of the schools of Boston Music Conservator and Juilliard. How ever they did not mention it every opportunity they had. You're good, we get it! Now come down from the pedestal and be cool.
To hear another couple of earlier Paul ballads, pleaseisten to "I Will", and "And I Love Her". A fun early Paul song, "Can't Buy Me Love", shows a similar timbre to his voice. Also try "Blackbird", and "Yesterday".
