One of the best love songs ever written. With the beatles you get 3 of the best singer song writers ever all rapped up In one band. The beatles ,simply the best 😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Three big hits. Wonderful Tonight as well. George and Patti were drifting apart and both having affairs. When Patti left to go with George's best friend Eric Clapton, George was asked how he felt about it and said 'I would rather she was with my best friend than someone I don't know'. They all remained friends for the rest of their lives with George buying Patti a house when she hit hard times later in life. Frank Sinatra described Something as the greatest love song of the last 50 years..
Actually Pattie Boyd did not leave George Harrison for Eric Clapton although Eric begged her to. In fact he wrote the album Layla and other love songs and especially Leila to her as an open love letter. He played it for her and made his best pitch and she went back to George. Following which Clapton had two or three really tough years with drugs and alcohol and didn't get married to Patty until they reconnected about 3 years later
One of my favorites written for Patti is Clapton’s Bell Bottom Blues. She asked him when he came back from America to please bring her some bell bottoms.
Clapton wrote Layla while George and Pattie were still together. Harrison wrote other songs about Patti...as did Clapton (Wonderful Tonight being one that springs to mind). Patti ended up getting with Ronnie Wood later on and he also wrote her a song or two. Patti is probably the woman with more songs about her than anybody else...even though Courtney Love has more about her than you'd think!
One thing that almost everyone misses about this video is that at no point are any of the Beatles together. The video only shows the various Beatles with their various wives/girlfriends. The four Beatles were apparently not getting along at all -- they agreed to shoot scenes for the promo film as long as they didn't have to be with each other.
Agreed! He is known for melodies and overall a prolific songwriter, but few appreciate how sick his bass lines are. Rain and I want you/ She's so heavy! are standouts!
@davidfeltz8697 I agree. The bass part of Something is wonderful. I'd add Come Together, Dear Prudence, With A Little Help From Friends and Taxman as classic Paul bass lines that are absolutely essential components of the finished musical composition.
YEAH---AND WONDERING EYES, HE HAD AN AFFAIR WITH RINGO'S WIFE, AND GEORGES SECOND WIFE SAID, GEORGE HAD MANY AFFAIRS WHEN MARRIED TO HER ,ALSO. NO WONDER HE WASN'T PUT-OUT BY HIS BEST MATE, ERIC, TAKING PATTI OFF HIM.
Not at their wedding. The wedding took place in Tucson Arizona in March 1979. None of the Beatles attended. George, Paul and Ringo attended a party at Clapton's home in England two months later.
No. He had an indifferent, almost autistic heart and was very unfaithful to her. Harrison, Clapton, and many similar were utterly unable to express emotions outside of writing, playing, and sing songs. Many of them only grew up emotionally when over 30 or much older than that. The various biographies and even quotations from the individuals concerned describe this pattern. Clapton describes how he longed for what he hadn't got then, when he got it (or her), he lost interest and looked for something (or someone) else
According to George in a 1995 interview, the song wasn't about Patti but a generic love. He would know! Paul's bass lines were busier than George wanted but ultimately perfect for the lyrics. Ringo's drum patterns propelled the song along and Billy Preston's organ parts fit like a glove. George's iconic guitar solo is the stuff of legends and Martin's string arrangement the icing on the cake. A winner all round!
I Am So Happy 😁 That Paul McCartney Talked John Lennon Into Being "The Beatles🥁🥁🎸🎸🎹🎹🎼🎵🎶 ONE MORE TIME!😁 AND THANK YOU ELVIS PRESLEY FOR COVERING "SOMETHING".😁 I Would Have Never Discovered "The Beatles" Without Elvis Presley Singing "Something" In His "Aloha From Hawaii " Concert In January 1973. Original Airdate Was In April 1973 , Here In The United States 🇺🇲 Because January 14, 1973 Was SuperBowl 7 . So My Father 🧑🏻 Was A Huge Elvis Presley Fan!🧑🏻😁😎 Thank You Paul McCartney.🥁🎸🎹🎼🎵🎶😎😎 I Am Typing This At 1:10 a.m. , Wednesday Morning 🌛🌉🌃🌌 , May 1, 2024.
What are you talking about? John invited Paul to join the Quarrymen and it was John and Stu who came up with the name Beatles. What did Paul have to talk John into? John was the one who decided to go with Brian Epstein, and despite protests to the contrary in the 70s was fully on board with the image change at the time. The only thing I can think of that John had to be talked into, was switching Pete for Ringo and that was spearheaded by George, but Paul was a part of the talking him into it process at least.
George's wife-here Patti Boyd (she, Yoko, LInda and Maureen were ALL wives at the time) he met five years earlier when the Beatles were making their first movie, _A Hard Day's Night._ She can be seen in it in the train dining car scene where she says, "Prisoners?" and a bit later in the scene when they sing "I Should Have Known Better".
A bit more trivia for you. Patti Boyd's sister, Jennifer was the inspiration for Donavon's song "Jennifer Juniper". Mick Jager from the Rolling Stones also told Jennifer that one of his songs was written about her, but he wouldn't tell her which song it was. Jennifer was also involved with Mick Fleetwood (Drummer from Fleetwood Mac) and actually married him TWICE. She finally dumped him for good when he had an afair with Stevie Nicks. She subsequently married Ian Wallace (the drummer from King Crimson). These two sisters must have inspired more music than any other sister ever.
"Wonderful Tonight" and "Bell Bottom Blues" by Clapton were also about Patti Boyd as was "For You Blue" by Harrison. Also, I would highly recommend listening to the songs without videos. The videos were after the fact and actually distract from the music.
Patti’s sister Jennifer also had a song written about her called. “Jennifer Juniper” (By Donovan who taught John a style of Fingerpicking guitar used on Dear Prudence)
Just so you know, The Bearles first 2 hit songs were Please Please Me & Love Me Do, with the 1st one reaching #2 in '62 & the 2nd reaching #1 in '64. Both of these songs were from their 1st album Please Please Me recorded in '62!
What country are you talking about? In the UK, the first Beatles hit was Love Me Do which peaked at #17 in 1962. Please Please Me followed up in 1963 and hit #1 in three of the four national charts that the industry used as its guide but it only reached #2 in the fourth chart. Unfortunately, that fourth chart subsequently became the industry standard. The argument continues to this day over whether or not Please Please Me was a bona fide UK #1. (For what it's worth, I'm of the opinion that Please Please Me was indeed a chart-topper in the UK and I'm prepared to die on that hill!)
Steph mentions their "short hair" as moptops. At the time, parents were shocked by their long hair. The press asked them if it was real hair or wigs. The part about Eric and Patti didn't happen until 3 or 4 years after this song.
Pattie Boyd was NOT George's "soon to be ex-wife". This song was recorded in 1969 and they didn't divorce until19'77 (and at this stage had only been married for three years).
Paul McCartney sings the finished or record version. George would sing some of it during the writing, to sound out the phrasing, etc. and that was recorded as standard procedure, but not used on the album.
Fun but sad fact- John Lennon does not sing at all on this song, and barely appears at all. He might be banging some chords on the piano in the middle, but that's it.
You laughed (friendly!) when noticing Paul, Linda and that dog goofing around! Dog's name;: Martha! Find the song about this dog on the so called "White Album" :-)
The Beatles have so many absolutely incredible songs, but I think it says something that two of their BEST were written by George (in my opinion at least).
Between George and Eric Clapton, Patti Boyd has had more songs written about her than any other person in history. If I needed someone, I need you, For you blue, Something, /wonderful tonight, Layla, bellbottom blues are just a handful about Patti.
It can’t all be blamed at on Pattie. There was a lot of partying, drugs, and infidelity going around. Eric and George remained friends. George played at their wedding. They referred to each other as husbands-in-laws.
Well, it depends on your definition of "soon". They would be married another 5 yrs, about half of their marriage overall to go. But yes, the spectre of Eric Clapton was already on the horizon and in a few months would be making his intentions known. But Patti had NO idea at this time.
George and Patti remained friends up until the he died. After she hooked up with Eric Clapton, they became good friends also. And yes, Yoko did break up the band!
I find it interesting that out of all the Beatle wives to last until death do us part, only Linda and Yoko were the ones to make it there. AKA the foreign wives.
Other way around. But in those days... everyone was pretty loosey goosey. She would go on to say that George was the love of her life. She would ALWAYS love him. Sadly, he died in the early 2000's.. sooo..
Please stop making things up. The longer each of your Beatles reaction videos go, the more ludicrous your claims become. You can see George working on Something in the film Get Back, in 1968. Clapton wrote Layla, about his desire for Patti in 1970, but his love was unrequited. She rejected his advances and Clapton turned to heroin. It was not until 1974 that Patti left George and took up with Eric, and she had a major affair with Ronnie Wood before that. They finally married in 1979. Also, although 4-5 years separate the British Invasion in 1964 and Something, the British Invasion does not mark the start of the Beatles. Their first proper single charted in the Uk in 1962.
Some of the best drums and percussion ever recorded. Ringo was on point.
One of the best love songs ever written. With the beatles you get 3 of the best singer song writers ever all rapped up In one band. The beatles ,simply the best 😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

My Sweet George ❤❤🎸🎸🎸
For me, this is one of the 5 greatest songs written by The Beatles, simply beautiful
Along with Yesterday two of the greatest songs ever written
Because by John Lennon [credited to Lennon- McCartney as usual ]should be up there on top of the list, top 5.
One of my favorites written for Patti is Clapton’s Bell Bottom Blues. She asked him when he came back from America to please bring her some bell bottoms.
I love that one too, it’s amazing.
McCartney's bass playing is what makes this song for me!
Yes it's amazing
How the years have flashed by OMG life is so short. Enjoy every moment you can my friends.
Clapton wrote Layla while George and Pattie were still together. Harrison wrote other songs about Patti...as did Clapton (Wonderful Tonight being one that springs to mind). Yeah! They certainly were not getting along as 2 of The Beatles were dead when this video was compiled - 50 years after the release of the record.
@jcb640 this is the same video shown on tv in the 60s when the song was released
There is a photo shot of them all together from this day. The photos are used in the more recently created video for Here Comes The Sun
Or it was, you know, an artistic choice.
@@jcb640 the footage was shot and compiled in late October/early November 1969 specially for this promo video. It was screened on TV at that time.
you are listening to the greatest love song of all time
It is definitely up there!
Frank Sinatra called it the greatest love song of the last 50 years.
Best bass line ever played for my money. McCartney turned a nice ballad into a masterpiece by composing that bass line.
Agreed! He is known for melodies and overall a prolific songwriter, but few appreciate how sick his bass lines are. Rain and I want you/ She's so heavy! are standouts!
@davidfeltz8697

George actually played at Patti and Eric Claptons wedding. He had a forgiving heart.
Actually, George, Paul, Ringo & Denny Laine played some songs including "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".
when it's true love nothing really matters
YEAH---AND WONDERING EYES, HE HAD AN AFFAIR WITH RINGO'S WIFE, AND GEORGES SECOND WIFE SAID, GEORGE HAD MANY AFFAIRS WHEN MARRIED TO HER ,ALSO.
NO WONDER HE WASN'T PUT-OUT BY HIS BEST MATE, ERIC, TAKING PATTI OFF HIM.

A great review! Thank you.
The first line was nicked from a James Taylor song 'Something in the Way She Moves'. Taylor was recording for the Beatles label 'Apple' at he time.

Good LORD. Had no idea!
"Wonderful Tonight" and "Bell Bottom Blues" by Clapton were also about Patti Boyd as was "For You Blue" by Harrison. Also, I would highly recommend listening to the songs without videos. The videos were after the fact and actually distract from the music.
You need to check out the live version he did in 2008 when he did a concert in Liverpool for the capital of culture, great crowd interaction.
For what it's worth, Frank Sinatra said it was one of the greatest love songs ever written.
THE greatest 😊
Patti’s sister Jennifer also had a song written about her called. “Jennifer Juniper” (By Donovan who taught John a style of Fingerpicking guitar used on Dear Prudence)
Wow! I had no idea!!
George and Patti didn’t separate for another 4-5 years after this was written and recorded.
What a killer bass line by Paul....

McCartney’s bass line is the silent force behind this song if you really listen.
Top selling musicians of all time.
"When I think about Beatles I usually think about short hair."
That's a sentence I never thought I'd hear.
Hahaha.
For Frank Sinatra this is the most beautiful love song ever
Didn't also say it was his favourite Lennon McCartney song? 😂 Poor George.
The greatest love song ever written
My sweet George ❤️😍
Eric wrote Wonderful Tonight about Patty Boyd also.
Pattie Boyd was NOT George's "soon to be ex-wife". This song was recorded in 1969 and they didn't divorce until19'77 (and at this stage had only been married for three years).
"Something", one of (if not THE) most covered song by other artists ever.
Great song, despite the associated gossip columnist heaven
George was a mystic Genius .
I don’t know about dark
But I think the emotion you are thinking of is
Melancholy
"They're all pretty actu- (Yoko appears) yow!
My father in law knew Lennon and macca. This is my fave Beatles song. Patty was lovely. Nobody writes like this no more….too many ai robot crubbish
dude you hit me with a new perspective.
Paul should of got co writing credits 😊 that bass has its own melody
George stated he did not write this about Patty, just a general love song.
He makes that bass sing.
I love Ringos drumming here.
Beatles cover.
A hard days night.
Peter sellers. 😊😊😊😊
That's hilarious but what's it got to do with the price of fish?
I hate the gossip that people who claim to know these artists hearts.
Paul McCartney sings the

George would sing some of
it during the writing, to sound
out the phrasing, etc. and that
was recorded as standard

Sounds like you're saying Paul sang this on this studio version? He didn't, it's George.
More fake news

You laughed (friendly!) when noticing Paul, Linda and that dog goofing around! Dog's name;: Martha! Find the song about this dog on the so called "White Album" :-)
Ha! Wow! We will definitely look into it!
Many songs wete written about Patti.😊😊
The Beatles have so many absolutely incredible songs, but I think it says something that two of their BEST were written by George (in my opinion at least).
Frank Sinatra declared in no uncertain terms, that "Something" by The Beatles was the greatest love song ever written !
Sinatra did say it was Lennon and McCartney...mistakenly 😂
She left George and married his best friend Eric Clapton what a friend
Very white of him
Between George and Eric Clapton, Patti Boyd has had more songs written about her than any other person in history. If I needed someone, I need you, For you blue, Something, /wonderful tonight, Layla, bellbottom blues are just a handful about Patti.
I think Jesus might have her beat in that regard!
But surely not first time listening, right? That’s inconceivable.
As I have stated on here before... Believe it! She led an EXTREMELY sheltered life...
@@aviewfromthestage ….Yikes!
Poor Pattie Boyd: surrounded by men who were emotional pigmies outside of writing, playing, and singing songs.
So very true...
Sadly the history has made this sad , and not just a love song
Abbey Road is my favorite album of all time.
"Something" - The Best by George.
Layla is Clapton's side of this situation.
It can’t all be blamed at on Pattie. There was a lot of partying, drugs, and infidelity going around. Eric and George remained friends. George played at their wedding. They referred to each other as husbands-in-laws.

I find it interesting that out of all the Beatle wives to last until death do us part, only Linda and Yoko were the ones to make it there. AKA the foreign wives.
And of the original wives, only Patti is still alive herself.
Sinatra called it one of the best love songs. Probably covered it.
Well, there would be no need, to worry about anything. The Beatles had tons of women...
Frank Sinatra called this his favourite song to sing.
Something then que into Here Comes the Sun.
Frank Sinatra loved this. True.
Paul and Ringo....sick
Given George’s point of view…Patti was just another bit of the earth….The muck and mire…he got over it quickly…
Frank Sinatra called this the most romantic song ever.
Annd he was CORRECT!
Flipped Clapton photo.fwiw.
My wife has just run off with my wife.
I'm going to miss him.
It's that joke isn't it?
didn't Harrison nick her off Eric Clapton..?
Other way around. But in those days... everyone was pretty loosey goosey. She would go on to say that George was the love of her life. She would ALWAYS love him. Sadly, he died in the early 2000's.. sooo..
