Go for both Tableau and Power BI. They are 70% Similar. No coding knowledge , no problem. Once you complete this go for any database and any language to complete the circle.

Familiarity with software and hands-on software are two different things so how to complete that journey

Do u suggest data is cleaned first inside excel PQ, and pulled into power BI for greater speed, or use ETL inside BI?
Directly in Power BI. Power Query is available in Power BI .

It will. It you provide clean data to Power BI directly, it would be faster. If you clean in Power BI it affect but not that much.
