    ========= Hellfighters LYRICS ==========
From a land across the ocean, to the western front where they served
Fought with courage and devotion, preconceptions turned
As the spring offensive kept churning, where the men would earn their name
See the tides of battle turning, and their foes ignite their flame
Hear the toll of the bell, kept fighting for six months in hell
As the war rages on, they fight at the edge of the Argonne
Hear the toll of the bell, over six months in hell
Out of the trenches they came
As the war rages on, at the edge of the Argonne
    Hellfighters earning their name
They would have no prisoners taken, and they never lost any ground
Earned the cross of war unshaken, never turned around
As the armistice is drawing closer, the 369th
Kept on fighting until it was over, and they were first to reach the Rhine
    ========= Historic Fact ==========
In 1918, the Harlem Hellfighters were assigned to fight in WW1 alongside the French army. This regiment was mainly made up of African American soldiers, and they were not allowed to fight alongside the ordinary American soldiers.

Song about Colonel Joshua Chamberlain, Ph.D, and the 20th Maine during the Battle of Gettysburg(BAYONETS!!!!) or maybe a song about the 1981 IRA/INLA hunger strike. Both are very interesting topics much your audience may not be familiar with. Thnks for teaching me about Brazil's WWII involvement and the Swedish Empire. I have a history degree and knew nothing about Brazil during The War and very little after Gustavus Adolphus and the 30 Years War.

They, of course, weren't so fortunate to be able to do so themselves. They fought for the nation, and returned to the same discrimination and mistreatment their parents had, and their kids and grandkids would face basically the same for decades more before the US even started to give them a resemblance of equality, much less make amends for past wrongs.

thats actually a cold reality to not only black soldiers. a lot of soldiers are discarded after wars, this was true even in roman times were conquering legionaries came back and were broke ,barely able to feed themselves let alone their family . still true today , the slight difference in rome they could turn to their general who paid them and the general had their loyalty not the state. thats probably why it was so much buried and the Americans only partially made black people soldiers because disgruntled soldiers isnt Something you wanna play with

@@Sonichero151 Sergeant Henry Johnson received the Medal of Honor
for his actions on May 15th, 1918.
He held off a German attack with grenades,
his rifle, a knife, and finally his bare hands
to protect a fellow soldier and his unit,
      the Harlem Hellfighters.
Then-Private Johnson was on sentry duty
the night of May 15th with fellow soldier
      Private Needham Roberts.
The two were attacked by a raiding party
of at least a dozen Germans.
      And things quickly went south.
Johnson fought bitterly to protect himself, his friend,
      and the Harlem Hellfighters
and French soldiers they were with.
Even after they were both wounded, Roberts fed Johnson
hand grenades to unleash a hellish downpour on the Germans,
giving deadly meaning to the phrase, "Make it rain."
      Johnson held the enemy off
until they ran out of grenades and rifle rounds.
At one point, the Germans even tried to abduct Roberts,
      but Johnson protected him
with just a knife and personal grit.
Johnson was eventually wounded 21 times during the fight,
but he still managed to bring down several Germans,
stabbing one of them through the head with a bolo knife.
      That's right.
Even severely wounded, Johnson had the strength
to shove a knife through a man's head.
Johnson received the French Croix de Guerre
and was eventually promoted to sergeant.
But he wouldn't receive an American medal
      while he was alive.
Posthumously, Johson was awarded a Purple Heart in 1996,

As a Soldier of the Army National Guard, and a Trooper in the US Cav I couldn't admire anyone more then the Harlem Hellfighters who faced a segregated army and still managed to not only fight and win, but to survive with little to no respect or logistical support from the US army. They were only recognized by the French army after being adopted and equipped with French Equipment. Yet, facing so much other than life on the front line, they were the most feared amongst the germans. And THAT was a national guard unit.

Which is why it is ESSENTIAL to repeat their story. What they and the 442nd did are the truest examples of patriotism in American history. They fought for a country that despised them, they answered a call that they had no business receiving. Yet they fought every bit as hard (if not harder) than their white countrymen, proving (even though they shouldn't have had to) that they believe in the core values of this nation. Through their bravery they show what courage really means. Not just courage on the battlefield, but the courage to be dedicated to ideals that were not being reflected in the society in which they lived. By repeating their story, we reaffirm the value of the price they paid to shout to all the world "I AM AN AMERICAN".

Funny enough, he was a man who died destitute because of an error on his discharge papers failing to report injuries that he received his Purple Heart for. Granted said Purple Heart was given posthumously by President Bill Clinton. He then received a posthumous Distinguished Service Cross upon discovery of his burial place in Arlington National Cemetery. And it has recently been discovered that General John Pershing provided a Chain-of-Command endorsement, presumably for a Medal of Honor, given what Charles Schumer said in front of a statue of Johnson in Albany.
Originally I just wanted to make the joke that the unkillable soldier, the white death, and the black death all died peacefully, and then on the Smithsonian Magazine website I found an article that mentions all four facts I mentioned in my post.

France’s reputation for surrender is still widespread, although, as we have seen, actually France has surrendered in only eight conflicts since 1850, a comparative percentage to Austro-Hungarian and German victories. A big reason why France is known for surrendering is because they lost a number of famous conflicts in recent history. Although I am not German, I believe that Germany kinda threatened your guys' existence on multiple occasions.

@@andrewarmstrong2857 it's sure but they rolled over everyone the Germans of the time but it's mainly because we had repeatedly very bad commander but the French soldiers are among the most feared in Europe winning a multiple recovery of things thought lost. But a French soldier in general is superior to a German because often proven the many fights won while we were in numerical inferiority.

    • @wakpuissant5780
      @wakpuissant5780 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@andrewarmstrong2857 Well no one had a chance of winning against Germany by the British letting them get too strong and the Americans rearming them. However the 1st world war was already won with or without the American Aid because of the Franco-British blockade so they absolutely did not save us at that time and it is very funny the Americans had really bad equipment during the 1st world war that it was ultimately France and the British who had to equip them or help them to have suitable equipment, so the Americans were really much more moral than real.
And during the Second World War, of which the Americans via the rearmament of Germany and the British via the abbandont of France and threaten it if ever it intervenes on the remilitarization of the Rhine are the major culprits of this war. And then literally the many British abbandont of France via Dunkirk where the French fought and gave their lives to save their lives while the English were just waiting when they did not fight at all or even to Bir hakem or some Frenchman from the legion saves the English from romel. France has saved the others much more than the others have saved it. Let's not forget the moment when the British destroyed almost all of the French fleet behind their backs. They are only traitors who pretend to be saviors (even De Gaulles hated the English for their multiple betrayals)
To conclude also don't forget that when the Americans arrived in France for the liberation the Germans had already lost against the USSR and had no opposing force and that it was the French resistance or Free France who freed the most French territory.
