I still remember a tomato I had in 1961. Can you imagine something so good that you can remember it your whole life? I've yearned for that ever since. Some tomatoes have come close, but that one was absolutely special. Cheers! It's been fun watching this.

I grew up in Chico California in the 50s and 60s. We always had a garden and plenty of fruit and nut trees. The taste of fruits and vegetables back then was so good. I to this day still have not had any fruit or vegetables that tasted that good. I really miss the flavors

I'm excited for you Luke. It's quite the accomplishment to get a tomato from an 87 year old seed. It's also great that you are saving the seeds. I'm sure that the tomatoes will become even better as the plant gets accustomed to producing them. To any extent - thanks for sharing the great journey with us. Looking forward to some seeds! 😉

Luke, you are so passionate about what you do and you are a pleasure to watch. Thank you for this tomato saga! I've been following it from the first and I'm so happy to see this taste test today!! I would love to have a few seeds, but how are you going to secure the actual growing of these plants once the seeds leave you? Wouldn't it be a shame if people bought them and then didn't follow through and grow them??

It's absolutely mind boggling how much negativity has been in this series. I don't understand it. I get how it's hard to believe that something like this is possible, but everyone immediately went to you faked it. Some things have to be taken on faith. It's incredible that y'all were able to bring this back from Extinction. Keep the seeds, make the plants have a real future of existing and then focus on letting the seeds go out. Unfortunately, there will be people who buy these seeds and then grow them for one season and that be that. I really look forward to the day they are available, but nurture and grow these, the one seed to make it happen and it did! Truly a miracle.

Thanks for the video, it's good to see such enthusiasm in a young man, and your pleasure in the taste test. I dont know how you watered them during the hot weather you had, but when watching another video, the man that was growing the tomatoes recommended watering in the morning before too hot, and water the soil, not the leave or tomatoes to avoid causing any rot on them. Hope this encourages you. Much 💖.

Thanks Luke. This looks and sounds like the variety my grandmother grew. She saved her seeds and planted the same variety year after year. Unfortunately the variety she grew wasn't passed on through the family.
I know the seeds will be limited to a few people and I really hope I am one of the lucky ones that receive them. I would really like to see how they do in my climate here in NW Georgia and if they are indeed the same as she grew. Much Love and happy gardening!

Sounds like a good variety of tom, I'm not a fan of raw tomatoes myself (something to do with my tastebuds being weird), but I'm quite pleased to see that this one has been brought back from extinction, hopefully it's onwards and upwards from here, get them seeds shipped worldwide and make sure it can never disappear again... :D

I had what's called a Blueberry Tomato the other day - I'm not sure if it's a rare variety or not, but here's the thing - I normally don't eat tomatoes, especially the big ones. This one was very small, about the size of, you guessed it, a blueberry. Well, as my one video from the other day states, this was actually kind of tasty, and I wouldn't mind having more - just need to wait a day or two.

It’s good. Thanks for taking me through your journey! I have a 10’ tomato plant I have only got 2 tomatoes from. More are growing on it now though. I have an 8’ that I have gotten no tomatoes from. Blooms keep falling off that one and the shorter ones which I think are probably cherry tomato plants. The ID tags got lost or mixed up. I’m in SE Texas though. Probably got things in the ground too late. I do have a cucumber plant that is doing really great though. Blooms all over and a few cucumbers coming out. Not that you will ever see this. Just felt like posting. Great job on that 87 year old seed!!!

    Hi Luke,
I hope you have learned a valuable lesson and have invested in some bird netting to keep your tomatoes safe. Congrats on the first taste test. Cheers,
    Bill

Watching this as I'm just about sit down to a delicious dinner and glass of red wine. Having followed the purchase of these seeds, "Damn Right" I'd be as excited and as passionate as you! I thoroughly enjoyed your descriptive, decadent description of what you've brought back into existence. Well done! And thank you for sharing the same kind of emotions I have over things like this, especially after all you've put into it! Enjoy every moment!

Hey Luke, just a question not related to this. Yes, I know you grow hydroponics, but what do you think about the Mittleider Method of growing and would you use it or no?

You'd do it again in a heartbeat, how could you not.

Yup, I need to add this variety to my small but growing collection collection of Heirloom's. Let me know when they are available for sale please, I want one or two packets if I could. Peace, Love and Light!!!

glad for the progress you have had. it was a good looking tomato. i know that you have had to take things one day at a time and everything could go wrong anytime, and it will be a while before any seeds go out, but have you started to form a definite plan for increasing your seed supply and eventual distribution?

East Canadian residents endure quite cold weather (even snow), and Greenland recorded record cold in July this year.

Why so many thumbs down? I don't think people realize that this is the last tomato plant of its kind.

The interior pattern was fantastic. Hope you do well with your hydroponic set I would like to buy a few seeds in a few years. I believe it would be a experience and gift to a few people who would appreciate it. It's not just a tomato, It's a time capsule.
