Luke, we will not get tired of watching you pick tomatoes, trust me.
I dont know what it is but watching someone harvest multiple types of tomatoes and peppers is what I scour TH-cam for.
Thank you for what you teach us.

Willowdean Vannette since tomatoes are hard to grow up here in Alaska I enjoy watching and wishing I could have an environmental controlled greenhouse here and grow a ton of different varieties. We only do well with sweet 100 and stupice and some arctic /polar hybrids but all are small fruit and not the best flavor compared to others although still better than normal store bought. I wish I could grow varieties up here like they do down south. My grandpa used to grow prized tomatoes in his little farm town in southwest Minnesota and I always thought it was cool when I was a kid in the 80s before he passed.

Chew away....Please do sample your produce on film. I get a good idea if I would want a variety I've never had before based on others real reaction to flavor, texture, sweet/sour ratio & aftertaste reaction. Thanks for sharing your work.

I say it over and over again, but "Thank you Luke, buddy". You have seriously grown on me and I watch at least one of your videos everyday (I know it sounds weird, but I almost consider you as a "friend" lol). I want to purchase a Migardener T-shirt as soon as they are back in stock too.
I mostly grow indoor (I LOVE growing orchids, succulents, and cannabis), but by watching these Migardener vidoes, Luke has broadened my confidence and my outdoor garden thrives because of his gardening tips.

Amazing video! I've amazed by those Itty bitty tiny tomatoes! Who'd-a-thunk such a thing existed! 😲
I'm a new Gardener & this year I bought a "Ripe Vine Tomato" from the store & decided I wanted to try my hand at growing a plant with some seeds from one of the tomatoes.
I put 2 seeds in a red solo cup, a week later no germination so, I thought ok maybe they didn't take so, then I put 4 more seeds in it.
A week later I had germination. Yay!
Two weeks later I decided to count the stems (because there definitely were a lot more than 4.... And even 6!) There were 32 plants!! After another week goes by I decided to see if I could separate all of them & give them their own solo cup.... I was so proud of myself (being it was my 1st time) & back under the grow light they all went! Then when it was time, I hardened them off, and transplanted them outside into 2 large smartpots containers. I wanted to find out what variety they ate so, a gal did some research & discovered they are the "Compari tomato" (that is widely grown just for distributing to grocery stores.)
Ill never know how 6 seeds turned into 32 viable plants!! 🤔

Thank you for this video about the different tomatoes while you are harvesting. Lovely to actually see the end product you are growing and now harvesting. Looking forward to using the Trifecta this summer, just recently ordered when you got some back available. Glad I went on your wait list, thanks for the notice! We now are using fabric grow bags in much of the garden. Two main reasons- moles for one and the other is the soil is heavily clayed and a lot of rocks too. Just not worth the trouble to dig and amend. Love the grow bags! Have various sizes and they drains so excellently. Have them up on a pallet, not directly on the ground. Good aeration, longer bag life. I see one of your blogs talks about these, will go back to read the article one of these days. Lovely blogs, thanks there too. Dona from Oregon..

My favorite tomato that I have grown this year is the Yellow Peach Tomato. I have never seen a tomato with fuzzy skin, but boy are they sweet! Some of them even turn almost red in spots too. The Gooseberry tomatoes I grew this year are also great and so numerous!

Luke is my favorite gardener TH-cam channel. He lives in Michigan, so living in the south half of Indiana, I know his season information is correct and gives me extra space. Secondly, he nerds out like I do on this stuff. Finally his advice is really good, and cheap. He's not trying to wear tight pants, or show cleavage, he gives good advice. Bu,t I suspect some girls find him "interesting," for all the right reasons.

I have a problem with stink bugs and with a wet summer I have fungus issue. 2 plants have already died. Fortunately I have not had to deal with too cool of nights. Also a groundhog has decided to take up residence under my shed. The babies are cute but I wish they would eat other plants like all the weeds near my plants.

    • @Sg4809
      @Sg4809 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Same here, stink bugs on my bean plants and the leaves on them are turning yellow with big brown spots in the middle, everyday I'm picking at least 30 leaves or more because I just dont like the looks of them, some leaves turn all brown and shriveled and become slimy, idk what is going on and I've tried everything from pesticide to fungicide, hydrogen peroxide also, I have two more sets of plants up so hopefully they do better, oh also now all of a sudden my pods are yellow and skinny and look empty? 🤷‍♀️

same groundhog problems here Jeff... I found that installing reused plastic fruit containers on the tomato fruit cluster prevents the groundhogs from damaging them. And you only need to do this to the first 2-3 fruit clusters. Good luck!

I know you’ve done lots of videos on tomatoes but maybe you could do a mid season video on “why” your plants look so good and how the fruit is very clean looking and not cracked and ugly. All of my squash and melons are stunted from weather along with powdery mildew. Only my cucumbers and watermelons are getting past it. Tomatoes also just now ripening

First off, I love seeing the wonderful produce you grow and the information you give is very helpful for a fellow MI grower, however i am curious why you always snip the larger tomatoes off the plants as opposed to using a gental lift and 10 degree-ish twist?

Love your vids, dude! I really don't know ANYTHING about tomatoes, but trying to grow some Roma, Roma VF, and Independence Day Cherry. What is the best source to research what type is used for different purposes? Salads, pasta sauce, sandwiches, etc.

Hey MIGardener. Can you make a video on the seasons and crops you can plant? I am from hardiness zone 9 and I thought you just grew for your whole grow season. Mine is like 299 days or something however, I watched part of a vid from you on season crops and I realized my peppers are getting hurt by 100 degree weather. Do you or could you make a video or give examples of what you plant per season. Or maybe crop rotation or what you do?

Off the top of my head- He has one about fall crops that might have good info for you. He basically said you can grow any plant you want as long as it can withstand the temperature and has a long enough growing period.

Absolutely fantastic crop Luke!!! Have you tried growing 'Blush', an heirloom from Johnny's Selected Seeds? Highly recommend. Are you growing pumpkins this year?

    I love your matter-of-fact-ness
    "The answer is nothing"
I would say though that mulching with black/dark mulch or using other dark bedding material helps the soil collect and then hold more heat from the day which it releases back at night. I bet you could even paint some brick black and lay them in the garden around your tomatoes to absorb and release more heat.

Luke, I love watching your videos. I grow my tomatoes in large cages and they get over 6 ft tall, I trim off the top several times during the summer. I get tons of tomatoes but too many leaves. There are several varieties of tomatoes you have shown that I would like to try next year, can you explain how to get to your store?

At least you can harvest yours! I am at an urban garden and all my tomatoes and peppers are being picked by strangers before I have the chance to pick them. I suspect the owners of the nearby plots...

Well, that makes sense as to why my tomtoes haven't ripen yet. We haven't had warm enough nights. Sigh. I really am thinking I'm not going to have much from my tomatoes this year. Wished I would have gotten some yellow and orange type. But then I didn't know how this summer was going to go.

My tomato story... Had a guest coming on Friday, and planned to make gazpacho. Bought nice big and red toms at the grocery store. Cutting them at home they all had a core like a log for a fireplace. It went deep inside, was wider than the brown stem point, and was so hard that my very sharp knife got stuck in it.
The flavor was okay...nothing special, and was overwhelmed by the other ingredients....vinegar and garlic.
So Monday we are taking our dog to a trainer in town about 15 minutes south of us. Happened to pass a roadside vegetable market. I bought several varieties of tom’s and had the first giant one as a tomato sandwich yesterday. My husband used some for a salad, and I used the rest for another sandwich today. There was no hard stem in the center, the flavor was rich, and strongly tomato, and it had a wonderful texture throughout...nothing pithy or mealy, nor impossible to chew.
My own plants got a late start because we just moved here and my garden was late. Seeing what can be grown locally has me so exited for next year!

I’m in Nova Scotia and we’re a bit behind you... we have green tomatoes on some plants and flowers on most others but nothing ready to eat yet. That long cold wet spring didn’t do us any favours.
