Bansal ji - yeh comment aapke vipassana video ke bare me hai which I saw just now. Vahan aapne comments off kar rakhe hain. Isiliye main yahan kuch observations rakh raha hoon. Maafi chahta hoon. First of all - aapne dikkaten jheli - that has to be kept in mind. Phir bhi aap bahut samman se Gautam Buddha ki teachings se Vipassana Centers ke experience ko compare karte ho. -- Maine vipassana DIlli-Haryana ke Rahaka center me ki. -- Harek room me attached toilet hai. Rooms are ok. Tho...mere room me lizards ka prakop tha aur mujhe dar lagta tha. Kai baar raat ko neend nahin aati. Ek din bathroom me mendhak ghus aaya! Usko dhamma-sewak ne aakar nikal diya. -- Rahaka me naye sadhakon ko sham ka khana regular tha. ONLY purane sadhakon ko sham ko juice ityadi milta tha. So I am surprised by Dharamkot. I thought 3 meals is a standard across ALL centers for naye saadhak. The food was excellent. -- Very interesting point about the Pali chanting. And very valid point ki bhai, "सरलार्थ" to hona chaihiye. But the people with me, who did not understand any Pali (I do, a little), had no issues, it seems. Jaise when I go for some Advaita courses, wahan kitne Sanskrit chants vagerah hote hain. Often no one explains. But your point is spot on. Agar koi explanation na ho...then it does not reach the people! -- The Dhamma Hall in Rahaka is well ventilated and has windows that can be opened, ACs, fans. The guruji and sewaks make sure everyone has a proper seat, cushion etc. -- Exhaust Fans in bathrooms - main India ke bahut ashrams me raha hoon. Even in guest houses/hotels. Abhi kuch din pehle Dharamkot me hi tha ek guest-house me. No exhaust-fans! But I agree common bathroom agar ho then hygiene, ventilation is a must. -- The Dhamma-sewaks were all very nice, polite and hardworking. They tried to keep our spirits going. -- I did not mind the ghanti - main kai baar alarm ko off kar deta hoon! Hamare batch me log subah ko ek ghante ke baad tehelne nikal aate the. The sewaks would gently request them to go back...no force, no intimidation. Most of your observations are valid and I think one has to understand the difficulties you faced. If one cannot sleep properly at night then the next day is a disaster. But it seems the conditions are different from center to center. We have to acknowledge the empirical fact that many first-timers do make it through the 10 days. I had people with me with back issues, knee issues etc but they stuck it out. Ladies me kuch ladies wheel-chair pe thi. Still, apne bahut points crucial uthaye - how the center should inform when registering people that they will have to go up and down so many steps etc. I hope VRI, the organization, can incorporate your suggestions, observations. My humble request to a vidwan like you would be, ek center aur try kar lijiye! Hopefully it will be a better experience. And aur kuch nahin to, there are other Vipassana traditions also besides SN Goenka ji's. I think Bodh Gaya me ek do aise programs hain. Unme walking meditation etc bhi hota hai. Burma aur Sri Lanka me hai hi. Best wishes.
