    Dude…. Thank you!!!
    Last week, I obtained an acceptance to NU. I’m an incoming first-generation college student, and your content has done wonders for me.
    Keep up the good work! You’ve made a positive impact on people’s lives. Cheers!

    1. Identify your "spike" for the Why Us essay
    2. You need to mention courses and activities in your essay that align with your activities list
    3. Listing labs that will show you plan to continue your research project
    4. Listing your aim and career path in your essay --> what is your goal at the college?
    5. Balance on the school's courses and the school's extracurriculars
    How to Research Colleges:
    - course catalogs
    - clubs and organizations
    - look for labs
    - events

    I have a question: most of my why us essay require 250 words max, how to fit everything there?

    • @vincent_yang
      @vincent_yang  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      why us essays are not long but 250 words you can still cram relatively much in there.
      i would say split it in half, talk about ecs in 125 and academics in 125

    I'm applying as a chemistry major and I've got no relevant research (yet, I'm taking a research intensive course on material chemistry spring semester, but I won't have started it by the time college applications are due). I've got non-research extracurricular to do with Chemistry, what should I do?

    • @vincent_yang
      @vincent_yang  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm, you can still list that, do you have academics in relation with chemistry? Also it depends on what level your non-research extracurriculars are on

    what if i don’t have any research? I intend on being a marketing major.

    • @vincent_yang
      @vincent_yang  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Logically speaking, they look for results when you're doing marketing.
      Research doesn't really matter as long as you have results (of course research backs you up as saying you're not pulling things out of nowhere)
      That being said, your ability in different editing software (getting certificates in them) will help, as well as practical work experience (saying how you worked in the marketing department) is more beneficial than research for marketing.

      @@vincent_yang Thank you! So instead of research you think it would be better if I mention me working under marketing departments/ internships? But then wouldn’t those count as extracurriculars?

    • @vincent_yang
      @vincent_yang  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cynthiachan8028
      So to clarify research still counts as an EC (extracurricular), the video was separating "research" from any normal "activity", as in most cases research is usually more removed from the "practical sphere" and more into the "academic sphere". However, marketing is at the interseaction of both practical and academic. Writing a research paper won't nearly do you as much good as work experience.
      Essentially marking is all about results, so your "research" would be most akin to practical experience such as in internship or a job (note that it's very difficult getting one so if you can get one that's a huge +), and "activities" would be more like growing the audience/customer base of a passion project, or getting certificates from Google or Adobe, and taking courses from edex or different course websites on marketing.
      In your specific case scenario, I think the best method would be to approach it with that means! If you do want to go one step beyond, I think if you want to study how the thesis is done for marketing graduate majors. That's the only other thing I can think of in terms of research for marketing, and if you can write a graduate paper, you are definitely going to be a great candidate they look at, but I think doing research in terms of working/interning, then supplementing that with activities such as passion projects and certificates would be the way to go :) . The only other thing is marketing is very risky because it's almost solely results-oriented, but other than that, I think it'll be great!

      @@vincent_yang Thank you so much! You made me feel so much better about my application process, I was worried that my stats would simply be overlooked. Would you mind taking a look at some of my supplements once they are completed? But no worries if you cannot, I understand how busy college can be.
