Linkage to databases under provincial jurisdictions through provincial governments, provincial data centres, as well as federal data centres that hold provincial health data, is a core feature of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA).
The CLSA data linkage team is currently working with the Health Data Research Network (HDRN) Canada Data Access Support Hub (DASH) team to enable CLSA data linkage to healthcare administrative databases across the country.
This CLSA Webinar, presented Wednesday, January 17 at noon, provides an overview of the CLSA’s national dataset, introduce HDRN Canada and the DASH Hub, describe linked data available, and the process for access. This webinar will also highlight one data centre’s experience with the HDRN-CLSA data sharing project.
Andrew Costa Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Integrated Care for Seniors and a Schlegel Research Chair in Clinical Epidemiology & Aging in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact at McMaster University. He holds a PhD in Aging and Epidemiology from the University of Waterloo. He serves as the Scientific Director of the St. Joseph’s Centre for Integrated Care and is an Associate Scientific Director of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging. He is an interRAI Fellow, and member of the Instruments and Systems Development (ISD) Committee. His program of research makes use of health information (‘big data’) to target, develop, and evaluate models of care in home and community care, emergency departments, hospitals, and long-term care. He also leads work on digital platforms that help patients and their caregivers navigate home and community care services.
Sophie Hogeveen is the CLSA data linkage coordinator. She works closely with HDRN Canada data centres and the DASH team to enable the linkage of CLSA data to healthcare administrative databases and support access for researchers. She completed a PhD at the University of Waterloo, School of Public Health, focusing on the health services use of older adults using secondary analysis of healthcare administrative data.
Carmen La is a Program Specialist with the Data Access Support Hub (DASH) for the Health Data Research Network (HDRN). She is located at the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) in Toronto, where she has supported the development of the DASH process since the early days of the program. She is passionate about optimizing data access solutions, streamlining processes, and enhancing user experiences. Prior to her career with the DASH, Carmen held various roles within CIHI and with the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR). She holds a BComm degree in business technology management from Toronto Metropolitan University.
Lindsey Gilbert has been working with the Health Data Research Network since 2019 as part of her role of Data Services Manager at the New Brunswick Institute of Research, Data, and Training (NB-IRDT). She has led several large projects to facilitate the sharing of data for research, including the CLSA and HDRN data centre collaboration. Before NB-IRDT, Lindsey previously held roles within government and the non-profit sector. She holds a degree in leadership studies from the University of New Brunswick.
