It's a damn shame that the 1 & 2cent coins are no longer in circulation. I remember them very well as a kid growing up in the 70's and early 80's, saving them up to go to the school canteen or the icecream truck that used to drive around the streets at that time. A majority of them were smeltered into the bronze medals for the athletes in the Sydney 2000 Olympics. From time to time you can still find them in back drawers or cupboards of the retires who've hoarded them and put them away for safe keeping. They're absolutely fantastic for making jewellery out of, as a matter of fact I made a really nice necklace and earing set for my mother for her 50th wedding anniversary 1966 coins to be exact. Polished them up real good.

Another excellent video. Nice to finally see how they designed and made our prized coins! I've got a few old coins of which I've collected over the years. I'm 21 in June so with some birthday money I might get some more coins. It's amazing what you can find from getting change at the register.

The original round 50 cent was made of silver, due to bullion prices it soon cost more to make the coin than it's face value. That's why it was superseded by the 12 sided cupro-nickel coin made from the same material as the 5,10 and 20 cent coins.

1:39 As shown in a 'David Attenborough' documentary, the Platypus is not a mammal, in fact in a class all of its own. Ranking in the top 10 amazing animals chosen by Sir David Attenborough .
