"One day we'll get a Slaan powerful enough to remember the Bretonnians back into existence."
OOF!!! Right in the feels, man! I loved my Brets so much, I spent so much time coming up with a unique color scheme and heraldry for each Knight, I even came up with names for each of them. I didn't even care that they were never updated after their 6th edition book and all of their models were ancient even back then. I loved them! Easily my favorite army project. It hurts that they're not around anymore. Hurts so much...
Completely wiping an army out of existence is not something I feel they should've done. They could've consolidated it into Empire/Cities of Sigmar or other things. AND having seen how cool some mounted models are (Varangar in Slaves to Darkness for Example), I could easily see an elite Cavalry army with some aspirants/errant knights as battleline.
For me, AoS actually came out soon after I was thinking of getting a Bretonnian army. I love the Lady of the Lake and Grail Knight lore, the Green Knight, and all that. But AoS kinda obliterated them, so whether a good thing or not, I never got any of them.
RIP Tomb Kings too. Settra forever!
@@vfox1582 there aren’t even any “humans on horses” they can be proxied as.
@@lordravenblade Are there really not? I don't have the Cities of Sigmar book yet, so I haven't really checked to see what they have. All I know is they use a lot of the older WHFB models still.
Feeling Chaos for my return to AoS, but if they ever bring Bretonnia or Tomb Kings back (and no, Nagashy forces don't count - very different feel), I will jump onto those asap.
@@vfox1582 they kept Pistoliers and Outriders (the guys with repeating rifles/pistols) but the only traditional “knight” types are the ones riding demigryphs, not horses. And since the mounts get 3 attacks with additional MW on 6 to hit I don’t think many people would let you use horses as them.
@@vfox1582 they use “some” of the old whfb models. Basically just enough to piss you off that you can’t use more. For example my massive dwarf army is reduced to: Lord, runesmith, engineer, longbeards , ironbreakers/drakes, hammerers, gyrocopter. Even then the warden king is a half-assed “you can take a dwarf general, but he’ll be terrible”. Looking at the book, none of them are particularly good except maybe hammerers but they need to be wholly within 12” of a dispossessed hero for their battle shock immunity.
I lose: throne of power, shieldbearers, thane, runelord, anvil of doom, master engineer, bsb, all special characters, daemon/dragon/giant/trollslayer, BASIC WARRIORS, quarrelers, thunderers, miners, rangers, cannon, flame cannon, organ gun, bolt thrower, grudge thrower, the whole Rune system, and probably a few more I am not remembering off the top of my head.
Im a simple lizard, I see Seraphon I click like! Honestly it was a really cool battle!
If your seeing the first 2 replies their either bots or spamming
Also I'm new to Warhammer tabletop why aren't there any kroxigors in aos?
@@Verza488 Hi! There are kroxigors in aos, I even have models! There's an amazing model of a Kroxigor for BloodBawl, here's hoping for more modern models to be made into a playable aos. But the old models are perfectly valid for any game, they synergize well with coalesced Serahons and with an army of skinks.
@@nautilusshell6092thanks dude! I couldn't find any kroxigors in seraphon idk maybe I just missed it :P
The changeling: Ignore the setup bullshit and just slap him behind some pinks and let him hand out the -1 to hit in the enemy hero phase after the pinks bog a unit down. It can take a while to chew through even 10 pinks if you are constant -2 to hit :)
@@AlastairGames I think he would die very quickly, he can be attacked now.
I’m always so excited to see the seraphon! Thank you guys for all the great battle reports I appreciate all the hard work you guys do!
That immortal slan!! MVP lol
This is probably the first battle report that I've seen that actually features Arcanites, which is my favorite aspect of the Disciples, so thank you!
A few things that would have been beneficial to you in this game:
- Agendas of Anarchy : you hadn't used them at all. One of my favorites is Reckless Abandon, using Destiny Dice to guarantee a 9"+ charge with Enlightened, as it triggers before attacking, and provides an additional attack for ALL melee weapons. (You did address this towards the end, admittedly)
- Puckish Misdirection : The Changeling has an ability that I didn't see used, where it applies -1 to hit as well as halving their Move. This would have been putting the Kroxigors on 5+ to Hit, and only on 6+ when they attacked the Changeling directly.
- Guided by the Past : While you didn't have a choice in the first round (and attacking first was obviously the better option anyway), the second battle round you could have fought with Acolytes first, as the Enlightened weren't in much danger, and having full rerolls on both Hit and Wound rolls would have very likely finished the Slaan (there were 9 missed Hits/Wounds!), preventing more Geminid interruptions on the following turn, increasing the output on your Acolytes and making your remaining spells more reliable.
- Vulcharc : This extra plink damage may have been enough to finish off the Slaan as well, and I'm not positive, but each unit with a Vulcharc may be able to roll. I know it doesn't matter how many Vulcharcs are in a single unit, but I *think* each separate unit can trigger.
That being said, you did a great job focusing on Objectives! I think target priority ended up causing some problems (as you mentioned in the beginning), as there were several times where key pieces were left on a couple Wounds. Thanks again for battle report, definitely fun to watch!
Matthew is such a fun person to watch play, roleplaying the characters is great.
been waiting to see my faction on this channel again ! Tzeectch ! woot super geeked !!!!
This is one of the reasons I love AOS so much. Even a game that looks like a total curbstomp at the beginning can turn into an interesting, fun and tactical match!
This is why I hate Aos. 90% of the games are over turn 2. And only 1 out of every 10 games you play will actually be fun, and the other 9 will just be oops. double turn, your armies gone
@@aprilecotton2060 Then don't play.
No agendas for Tzeentch? Would have been great on the enlightened and some destiny dice to get it off.
"DId you have to read the book to make sure it wasn't a fart?" best line ever, of all time
I honestly never want to face Tzeentch, especially if someone is running the Horror blobs. That is disgusting.
That being said, this was a fun BatRep with lots of great banter, which I enjoy! :) And thanks for using more of the Endless Spells. I don't seem to see them enough in many AoS BatReps, or I see the same 1 or 2 spells.
@Miniwargaming The Chnageling was so powerful that he went up 20 pts.
- He casts 2 spells which gives you fate pts.
- He can be hidden from harm.
- He is a daemon hero and thus give a -1 to hit in melee.
- He can give another minus 1 to hit and half move.
- He can summon.
- He can cast endless spells from behind enemy lines.
He's really good, if you use him right. Don't waste him.
He can't be hidden from harm anymore his rules changed and he can't cast anything behind enemy lines after he deep strikes because he pops up AFTER the hero phase has already passed.
Why is that Stegatron not carrying a Skink Starscream?
He already failed him for the last time.
Lol acoyltes are saurus knights now 😂😂 gotta love intro muddles
so the changling was a key part of the changehost warscroll battalion . since he has the daemon and hero keyword he could buff two units of horrors . so if you got the first turn ( which was almost a given since the entire army was built around this 1 drop warscroll battalion ) you could place this hero anywhere you want , then during you hero phase teleport 2 units of horrors next to him and boom ! you have a boat ton of ranged attacks from the horrors a hero to command point/ability/ buff them turn 1 ! was very OP , so they nerfed the battalion rules to only allow you to teleport 1 unit of horrors , and now it has been further nerfed by increasing the cost of horrors and the changling . still all very good but now it's not the the only "go to" for a competitive list .
"then during you hero phase teleport 2 units of horrors next to him and boom ! "
Get FAQed, only one TP with Changehost now
My bad, didnt read entirely xD
Actually Matt, the wording for casting spells Is that you roll the dice for, say, arcane bolt. If the roll is succesfull (fate point achieved) you pick an enemy unit. If there is not anyone within 18 you stop and the spell does not hit anybody, but it still counts as a successful attempt to cast, fate point-wise
Nice batrep, good to see some off-meta armies from these factions :)
A small remark for Steve: the Saurus guard's ability takes place after the attack sequence ends and you start to allocate wounds. It means you need to do save rolls for the Slann, roll for the total damage, then roll the 2+ for each wound to pass to th3 bodyguard. There wasnt any impact here, but could have been if lets say Matt rolls a bunch of 3s on the d3 damage.
I've been useing the changeling drop the purple sun in the opponent back line
Disc tzaangors lost the daemon keyword with the Tzeentch update so you don;t get locus of change for -1 to hit when within 12" of a hero
The enlightened lost the daemon keyword with the new book. Before, you could use the Fold Reality spell to add models to the unit.
They didn't catch this?...
That's a huge difference.
Steve u rly gotta use a starpriest and kroak they are sooo strong
This isn't a dig at you but... literally every other vid involving him, Dammit stahp bringing competitive armies lol
@@Spiran_SphereHunter im a little confused, are you saying i always bring Competitive list when i play AoS? or i never do?
Mountain Miniatures Gaming I assume the reply is saying they want people to stop begging you to bring the meta lists. And the op is saying please bring the meta units.
@@MountainMiniatures I just think the fan reaction is funny, In most videos the comments complain that you bring too strong units/lists compared to your opponent and now you didn't and they are asking you to bring what amounts to a Seraphon competitive core, Like I said it is not a dig at anyone just lolz
The reason I said this is bcs well after Steve liked the old spam endless spells so I thought he’d like like kroak and starpriest since they a tend to do a ton of mortal wounds or help other units to tons of mortal wounds. I didn’t mean that as a competitive army list.
The changing debuffs an enemy unit, can pop out next to enemy shooters, ie ossiarch catapults and tied them up for a turn. He can port behind a deamon unit for the locus debuff...basically he’s a relatively cheap Swiss army knife
The AoS app for both factions BoC and Tzeentch, does not have Deamon keyword for the Tzanngors on Discs.
The super huge changling thing you are missing is the Changehost Battalion. If you get first turn, you can teleport a giant block of horrors to protect him and pin the enemy in their territory. The combo has been nerfed twice now. It isn't as OP as it was at the start of the year, but it is still a very strong combo.
Im jealous, age of sigmar gets such badass looking models.
Right? I love 40k and all, but Age of Sigmar models are just so much better. :)
@@miniwargaming exactly and dont judge me for playing tau I just got back into playing 40k a couple months ago used to play necron a long time ago but sold the collection.
I really want to buy a alarielle the everqueen from sigmar and replace a riptides pack with her wings they just look so asthetically pleasing.
Don't forget your sacred asterism steve! Great batrep boys
Great to see a Mortal Tzeentch army! Great game guys.
You use the changeling in a change host where you can cast STD dark fire demon rift and some other eternal as a spell that will cause havoc in your enemies back line while teleporting lots of pinks around him.
Great battle report 👌🏻
Changeling, I use him in my Guilt of Summoners list to place him where you want your first LOC to be summoned ;)
I'm just starting a Seraphon army, how have you guys done the bases they look amazing and would love to do mine the same.
Changeling buffs that big 20 man unit of Pink Horrors that your Changehost plops down in front of the enemy. With that many models, small buffs go a long way
I like the Arkanyte (sp?) build, I wasn’t aware Tzeetch (my favorite chaos god by far) had them and I like their sorcerous bolts. If I ever decide to build a chaos army I might incorporate some of them. I also really like Tzeetch’s mechanics with his Destiny Dice, Fate Points and Agendas. Hmm after watching some of the game I think I like those Tzangor Enlightened too...
Unfortunately I’ve always been an Order and an Elf guy so I’m looking at Lumineth or Seraphon for my first AoS army (Seraphon seems to be by far the cheaper option with some sweet start collecting deals).
Is it really legal to cast spells “at the sky”? And if so is it really good sportsmanship?
I thought you have to be in range to even to try to cast a spell...but I might be wrong
Yeah you can cast a spell without designating a target. Just like you can roll for a charge before deciding if/where the models move.
Yes, it is legal at least for Tzeentch and I don’t see why it’s not good sportsmanship as it is specifically part of their rules for the purpose of building up Fate Points.
Steve probably pays a mage in online MMOs and complains that they don't do enough damage in melee. Or complains that his warrior doesn't have enough ranged spells.
Nah he plays a Shaman but uses a skinning knife, true story
The only thing I slightly wish you'd guys do, and it's super, super, super minor. But I'd love to see you pick and play on Auxiliaries as well considering you guys do it with 40k and it could matter on a tie.
Vault means premium stuff? That probably means old vault AoS BRs are most likely gonna not migrate onto TH-cam? Or will it and like a Patreon Vault members are gonna be priority for support?
I'm asking cuz I am an absolute new at AoS and MWG, only collected battletome and have been on the fence about whether when to consider doing this hobby
Changeling is for the -1 to hit and cheap double-cast. I usually have him following my enlightened and cast Geminids and use my Shaman to cast the Dirge Horn because I stack to-hit debuffs on the units that’s fight my enlightened so that it’s safe to wait to fight with them to get Visions of the Past to go off.
Matt was in a good mood for this battle report, with all his silly shenanigans lol. Steve’s dice on the other hand seem rather pissed off, at Steve anyway. 😉
Oops...I commented on the wrong post! Sorry
Just to clarify, the reason enlightened don't have the deamon keyword is because of a certain tactic which I used to abuse, namely the spell that brings back deamons used to work on them so you could in theory bring back entire squad back from death or loose all of them. Ahh the good times because of which I'm no longer allowed to play tzeentch XD
they should really have ways for people to take battalions or something (especially armies like seraphon) that give more endless spells
Dropping the changeling behind enemy lines and then casting a purple sun has got fo be fun right. Havnt got the book so not even sure when u drop it back there but that's what I would do
Yesss more Seraphon
Note to self: don't set up elites or lone heroes within 18" of Kairic Acolytes.
Did the mortals just become saurus knights? Lol a funny blooper
Matt, how have you never come across the word "conflagration" before? Especially when you play magic!
Great game, matt you forgot to minus the one cast to the gaunt summoner after he summons the horrors should only be a 2 cast wizard after he puts them down, 1 if he is not on the vortex
Fusil is a gun, conflagration is a word for fire spout
i think there's no daemon keyword for tzaangors because else they would profit from the -1 for to hit for deamons allegiance ability
Seraphon:lizardmen attack
Tzeench: i will change your navigation you will go backwards
Guys a rules question, why at 1:22:30 you decided to pile with acholyts on Bastiladont? And why Bastiladont couldn t pile on tzaangors on disc? Thx!:)
When you pile in, you have to stay at least as close to the closest model.
It means that you can turn around one in contact. But if they are two, you can't move as you will move away from closest one.
Enlightened on discs do not count toward wychfire coven.
They are a different warscroll entirely now rather than a wargear option.
Also tzaangors in general lost the daemon keyword.
This was surprisingly addressed in the recent (but scant) FAQ, pointing out the original wording from pg. 240 of the Core Book. So though it’s a bit counterintuitive, Tzaangor Enlightened works for both variants actually.
Good batrep, very happy to see Arcanites instead of the usual Daemon BS. I think with a bit more practice, and using the Agendas (to buff the Enlightened, for example), this could've gone the other way.
I appreciate the MTG reference.
Steve why was your lore spell from the slann not Stellar Tempest!? Whyyyyyyyyyy. Geminids have to be wholly wiothin 6" of each other not just within 6" so couldn't be placed where they were top of 2.
Did you also forget your sacred asterism each turn? Slann coould of been +2 to cast unbind and dispel eaach turn, or +1 run and charge for your army
Geminids after a move are just within 6".
@@aaronwilson301 could of what?
The Seraphon are very strong. It is absolutely bonkers that you guys think they aren't. One of the most VERSATILE and powerful books GW has put out in a long time. Read up on some synergies *cough Starpriest with knights or skinks, Kroak, Salamanders, Terradons, skink priests, Starseer, literally any synergy where a hero supports a unit. Good Batrep though, and happy wargaming :)
And I say this not knowing if it is just because you guys don't have the models ;)
Did Steve use Sacred Asterisms at all?
At 1:08:18 Matt forgot to proc arrows of tzeentch, which would've maybe killed the last saurus guard
Arent they for skyfires? He is running enlightened
Does anyone know why on the AOS app the Slann doesn’t have comet call but light of the heavens instead am I missing something?
I think that's his command ability if you scroll down a little bit further you should see it.
Hope that helps
Alex Mayer nope his command ability is gift from the heavens
THose dice today Steve, not even one hot roll outside of the Kroxigors, really sad to see this happening anyplace it happens.
AOS is becoming Herohammer like in the bad old days of 4th and 5th ed WHFB. Have a very few troops just because you have to and spend most of your points on monsters and super powerful characters.
Doesn't Vito usually play tzeench? Is his still with MWG?
Oh cool!
Seraphon are winning left and rigt yet you are still saying the tome is not
good. Get the 80% good models on the table for gods sake..
Well that was kinda cheap with Steve using that many Endless Spells, can’t really blame GW for limiting them...
In this case he was using them on a sub-par army (Seraphon) to try and make them playable. It didn't feel cheap.
@@miniwargaming the Seraphon are far from sub par. You don't need endless spells to make them work, starpriests are excellent for giving units mortal wound output, priests for buffing skink units, hunting packs are both good shooters and fighters. Even just regular skinks in large numbers are powerful, a big block of 40 with blowpipes and clubs, +1 to hit from the priest and MWs from the starpriest is by far one of the most powerful combos in the game. Same with Saurus Knights in Koatl's Claw. They get 7 attacks each when coalesced and you can easily make them hit on 2s with 5/7 of them and are also a great candidate for the Starpriest's MW buff.
It's quite frustrating to hear you smack talk Seraphon when you've hardly used the roster and when they've become quite the dominating force in the meta and can be worse than petrifex elite.
I enjoy your content but this talk about Seraphon being sub par is just so wrong that I and some of your audience are just tired of hearing it.
MWG Studios I totally get the endless spells, but seraphon don’t feel subpar in any way. Coalesced is so crazy good and the army is just really solid.
MWG Studios I’m no AoS expert, I was mostly saying it based on one game I saw where his endless spells really trashed a lot of his opponent’s units and saw that other people had commented on that there. But also like what a couple others said here and from what I’ve heard elsewhere Seraphon are definitely not subpar and rank decently high on tier lists when used well, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he could still be successful with them by expanding on what units he uses in his lists and by finding better synergies (especially with Seraphon’s key ability to teleport units...). For example some people say using Lord Kroak and Skink Starpriests is very effective and unless I’m mistaken I don’t believe Steve has used them.
@@TheAuzze totally agree. They are broken...Kroak is si cheap and so strong, like the salamanders
How/why are you able to cast infernal flames into the sky!?! The spell says "If successfully cast, pick 1 enemy unit within 12" of the caster that is visible to them" You should not be casting at nothing to get your fate points. If you are out of range of an enemy unit, you can't cast the spell!
This is straight up incorrect, since you pick the target after casting you can cast without a target to get fate points
Can we see more Nagash?
I just love Nagash
Omfg yes more seraphon
Steve you forgot your astra...star alignment thing (turn 1 at least). Also, take the healing spell on the slann. Helps out those monsters
Ooof, those dice man!
Get more batiladons, get kroak and 2 starpriests for cp and Magic lots kf skinks and geminids and burning head, u rdy to go with thag
My god Matt throw the dice stop talking 😂
pink horrors are now 220 for 10 .
AOS is back!
Seraphon are a ton of fun.
He can not be attacked unless he attacks.
good game guys
Why are Steve's Serpahon lists always so garbage with 0 synergy
I think he has a weird combo of models to chose from.
He used to have a thunderquake list with 2 basti but he sold it because it was too strong.
I think the word to describe pink horrors is "oppressive"
Seraphim 1st turn comets call went off. Forgot to give the extra +1 to cast because of being seraphon, +1 innate, and the astrolith... Tzeentch would’ve had to use the 6 in DD
Choxigors is my favourite cereal
24:47 😂
Constellations!!!!!!
fatemaster isn't a wizard
Didn't you forget your agenda's ?
Matthew, can you please retract your statement about Azyr being updated quickly, it is currently an absolute joke, it's frankly insulting that GW continues to charge for it. Nothing has been updated for the GHB20 almost a month later. The general community advice seems to be for users to cancel their subscriptions and hope this forces GW into doing something about it. Good batrep though!
Ah yes, seraphon, aka easy mode lol
20 minutes of this guy rumbling

Think this guy just likes to hear himself talk. No need to stop for a 5 minute explanation on every single thing geez
