Thank you for doing the test with the USB connection. I don't have XLR stuff, and I was so confused as to why I was so quiet when the microphone was claiming to be near clipping. When I saw your USB setting for the microphone, I set mine to the same and it sounds so much better now.

FYI, you can put a Shure SM7B foam screen on a Shure MV7 microphone, and it makes the MV7 much better. If the MV7 had USBC instead of microUSB connection, I'd love it. Instead, my main mic is the SM7B with the Elgato Wave XLR. It gives the SM7B modern perks.

the fact that its a usb and xlr hybrid was what made me purchase it. I don't yet have the money to invest in an audio interface, but also not money for buying another microphone once i do get an audio interface. With this, i can just use the usb output until i get an audio interface. so nice!

which is great for people who don't have a DAW or a interface. Using the XLR connection will sound better than the USB going into a DAW like Cubase, which is what I use. I have a Phonic Summit 16 channel mixer which is what I plug my mic into which is my interface for Cubase. I add processing like noise gate (which will cut out typing noise or desk noise). I also use the Slate Digital everything bundle along with Izotope to make the mic sound amazing. Then instead of running the 2 XLR cables to my studio monitors I route those into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 which is my stream Labs interface. I've been using a Shure beta 87a for my streaming mic but this mic is not made for spoken dialogue. So I ordered the Shure MV7 and should be on my door step today. Shure really stepped their game up on this one making it possible for someone who has no audio interface at all to go USB in and sound great. I commend Shure for making this product. Can't wait to hook it up.

I've been using a Blue Snowball Ice since I started working from home last spring. Having a workspace with a 3rd grader just outside the usually open door has made it abundantly clear that I need a better mic. This looks like a winner for cutting out background noise and having a much better audio quality than the Snowball or my webcam can provide. Great review, thanks for putting it together and showing the USB/XLR difference.

      Hi Don,
I just picked up the mv7 less than 30 days ago, and plan to use with my podtrak p4 which acts like an interface with xlr ports. It only has gain dials. I'm curious if you have both the USB and xlr connect while using your GOXLR mini and can use the app to dial in the mic settings. Appreciate any feedback you could provide. Thanks!

@@adadsthing650 That’s a great question, I did have the XLR hooked into a go XLR mini and the USB plugged in as well. The USB portion Diles the microphone in pretty good, but the go Alex or mini does a better job so I tend to use that. After a while I would head and unplug the USB just because sometimes it changed to use the USB instead of the co-LX are mini. I had both dialed in and they work really well. This Mike is one of the best investments I’ve ever made. So the answer is yes I use both from time to time but mostly The go LXR mini. It’s software does compression and all that other stuff that I want done.

    • @adadsthing650

Much appreciated Don! I just checked out what your XLR mini is, and I can see how just dialing that in with the mv7 will get great sound. I'm a newbie in a sence, but will do some testing to see if I can tune in on the app and still record on my podtrak. It sound like I may, but will be going through USB instead of xlr. One day I'll be upgrading to a zoom p8 and my "problem" will be solved😂 Either way, it's a great mic. Thanks again 👍🏾

I did an interview yesterday, and when I played back the zoom recording, audio sounded terrible and my hopes it that isn't how I sounded to the guest. But when I played back the audio the I recorded in my podtrak p4, it sounded beautiful! Syncing that audio with the video will be a little extra work, but we'll worth it once project is complete. This is a very nice mic. I've been hoping to get something a bit fancier, with some cool lights, but the tradeoff for the sound quality is likely worth it. I am actually trying to figure out a setup where I can pass a mic stand between two monitors. I have three monitors with a space between each. I want the mic to come through between the center and right monitor. I actually like that this is better not being right at the mouth as I would have it a bit off to the side. Hey, Andrew. Thanks for the video. I am considering either the Blue Yeti or Shure MV& for MS Teams and Zoom calls and wondering if you can clarify something for me. Both mics have the monitoring headphone jack, but without ever having owned a mic like these, I am wondering if I plug my headphones into the jack on the mic, will I hear both myself and the computer's audio (Windows 10) or would I have to either (a) change the computer's audio out source to be the MV7 or (b) should I just be plugging in the headphones into the laptop's headphone jack. Thanks!

Great video! Helpful tip: shutter speed 1/150 at least for the green screen to avoid spill on your hands since you’re an active hand motion person :)

Great Video. I do have one question. Are you able to use the USB with the rodecaster? I use stream yard and have guests on and for whatever reason, when I plug my USB into my laptop or the USB HUB, it doesn’t register on the USB channel of mixer. StreamYard recognizes it and it registers there, but no signal to Rodecaster.

This video was very helpful, thank you ! I am still undecided if to go the XLR route and getting the rodecaster as well. You mentioned the quality of XLR is top notch over USB until this mic came out, would you say it's still better to use XLR than the MV7 USB and its software? My podcast occasionally has some in person guests if that makes any difference.

I'm new to this stuff. I've been making TH-cam videos for a while now and I think it's time to get something better than my old cheap Razer headset but I don't understand what is going on here. Is he getting the audio quality he has right now just with this mic or does he use a program or that mixer thing he mentions to get said quality? What is a mixer what does it do?
    Edit: What is raw XLR?

Andrew, thanks for your content. QQ: I want to find a mic I can use that won't show during meetings. Most of my corporate co-workers are way too distracted when they see my mic (Blue Yeti). I keep hearing that these mics are best when they are closest to the speaker. I was going to get the elgato Wave 3. I am just disappointed with the Blue Yeti. Are my expectations unrealistic here? Can the MV7 be just outside of frame on an arm and be effective for presentations and most meetings?
    Thanks, -dan

    • @Sythrin3
      @Sythrin3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello Dan! Sorry, I don't think Andrew will respond but I can try to help you out! Blue yeti(s) aren't very good for the price and people use them for other reasons And your expectations are totally realistic paying a lot for not really good. Regarding the microphone being out of the frame that could work but you might need to adjust the gain if you think you sound a bit quiet so yes it can be used outside the frame so can a lot of other microphones anyway!
      Hope this helped!

@@Sythrin3 Thank you! The Blue Yeti I scrapped but only because the connection port was loose and that made the connection unreliable.
I went on to get the Elgato Wave 3 +mounting arm and accessories. It is working fine but being off camera is exactly as you said. I have to increase the gain. I decided to look pretentious and keep it close. It has not been as bad as I made it out. So far.
