Number one, I hope you are feeling better and on the mend! Number two, I am offended on your behalf that Shure sent one of these to seemingly everybody on TH-cam but you. Shame on them. You're one of the best reviewers on here. Be well!
Damn, you sound like hell. Hope you're back up to full speed soon! As for the mic, I think it sounds pretty good as a halfway house, about the price of a decentish interface + mic but gives the option to skip the extra hardware for someone just getting into podcasting/VO stuff. As always, great review.
I'm already loving this mic. My oldschool SM7b is my daily driver, but for the price, I ordered a new MV7. Got an urgent order from a doctors' office -- they want 6 cuts w/ my wife's voice for on hold greetings. I'm traveling, 2 states away... Just now, wife and I connected on Google Hangouts, and I walked her through connecting the mic and changing windows settings. My recording gear is with me here, on the road, so she connected to her WIN10 laptop w/ USB and used the Windows Voice Recorder (pros are saying, "you're doing it all wrong" -- yes, I'll connect it via XLR when I put the studio back together) No processing, no changing settings, no touching the on-mic controls. Just plugged it in, Windows found drivers, and we're recording. BONUS: Some software has conflicts when using the mic for remote meeting AND recording; We streamed Google Hangouts and recorded at the same time, no problems. Wife just emailed the m4a files to me, and I'll have finished audio chopped up and delivered by lunchtime. EASY USB connection, recording and sending raw audio within an hour. The cuts sound great right out of the box. I am so proud of my wife's willingness to plug things in, and so thankful for the technology,. I look forward to using the MV7 in-studio -- I'll experiment with some of the USB options, though I'll probably connect it via XLR. But for $250, this is an affordable, PRO level mic -- SHURE knocks it out of the park again!
BRO! Sending a healing and blessing prayer your way! Glad you're on the mend. Sorry you got sick! I appreciate you and your high quality reviews and most of all, your sense of humor.
Im not too crazy about the SM7B and I think its over used in the Podcast/TH-cam scene, But Im really Impressed with what Shure has come up with! The MV7 is a brilliant idea and a nice little mic!!!
Love this mic, I had to watch this review 3x, pretty awesome review. U always know how to turn something boring to entertaining. C+ for the mic is good.
Got the MV7 a couple of weeks ago, recorded 2 audio podcast episodes with it, I feel it’s a great improvement. My summary based on my experience and various YT reviews: Negative: microUSB sucks, so I just keep it plugged in unless I’m traveling.. Plosives are an issue, either speak at an angle or increased distance, or get the windscreen from Shure that goes with the SM7B (fits, $14 and works!); I use a generic pop filter from EBay - solved. Negative: not compatible with newer usb c ipad pros, per Shure’s tech support and website. I’m using mine with 2017 iPad Pro with lightning port (with adaptor) and works well. I believe the Shure MOTIV app only works via USB mode. Will return if I find an equivalent mic that uses usb C, but don’t see one yet, so after the return period, this is a keeper. Can’t upgrade to newer iPad Pro with this mic as is, so likely upgrade path is with next gen MacBook Air/pro... Positives: great sound, long usb cables, slider controls and mute function, headphone monitoring, build quality. Cheers!
Wow so close to purchase, did not realise you could not use it with a new iPad Pro! Thank you! This fused with this exquisite review, very grateful but I hope they change that ASAP!
Genuinely look forward to every video you do. I'm looking at getting this mic so really glad you've reviewed it. Top notch stuff sir. Wishing you a speedy recovery too.
Hahaha, god I found myself routinely laughing out loud through this, and a lot of your other mic reviews. Absolutely love the entertainment value you bring to this.
Man, hope you feel better soon. Re this mic, I'm 100% with you. I'm going to make the obvious comparison with the Samson Q2u and note that it does have more useful features, they seem to be implemented in a particularly awkward way, it doesn't sound as good and it costs 4x as much. On the plus side it does look a little bit like the mic Joe Rogan uses so if you care a lot about that...
Also forgot to say I'm really looking forward to Samson releasing the Q9U as with it being cheaper by a fair amount and also a hybrid with USB C it's likely its direct competitor. Waiting to see your review of that then I'll make up my mind.
I am way excited to review that mic! I have it pre-ordered, but I also asked B&H to send me one as soon as they can. I basically just wanted to make sure I get it as fast as possible 😂
Dude I love your reviews they’re not only informational but also funny and entertaining. Just a quick question for you, when you had the mic 3ft away and plugged in through usb what gain did you have set on the mic itself? Looking forward to your response, take care and hope you are better now 🙏🏽😊.
Was looking forward to your review of this one and sorry to hear why you were delayed... get better soon!! PS. How would you rate this for sound against the Rode NT-usb?
Wow powering through the virus. Man oh man rest up. Hope you recover safely. Agree with your assessment that the price dosen't match the value. Tks for being honest.
That feeling when u open a new microphone🤩 but i think its just a bit thin especially without the windscreen and the price is insane, had it been around 150, i would have jumped at it! Pls pls pls get well soon my man! I am praying fr ya!
HELLO THANKS FOR THE REVIEW..A QUESTION HOW DOES THE MICROPHONE CONNECTED VIA XLR CONNECTED TO THE ShurePLus MOTIVE SOFTWARE ..? How does the pc recognize it? If it is connected via xlr and not usb?
mate you use sm7b without any cloudlifters? just Zoom F6 and SM7B, how do you think Tascam Portacapture X8 + SM7B will work fine? without any additional hardware thank you in advance
Quick I guess you could say "hack" for this mic. If you take the windscreen from the SM7B and put it on the MV7 the plosive rejection becomes much, much better. If anyone has had issues with that, spend the 20 bucks (I think?) and you will have an infinitely better experience with it.
When EposVox reviewed this mic it sounded TERRIBLE. I'm curious if there's something that he did wrong with it, because he had to edit the hell out of it for it to sound even halfway decent. Your mic sounds amazing in comparison. I wonder if having the USB plugged in at the same time as the XLR adjusts the sound somehow?
I steered clear of watching any MV7 reviews before I finished mine, so I will definitely go check his out now! First thing that comes to mind, before I watch it, is that his voice seems like it would be bad for this mic. His lows and low mids are pretty powerful and I feel like this mic would be a bad choice for a voice like that.
mv7 or q9u? for podcasting... USB hookup. Any other recommendation that will produce the same sound quality for same or less money? No interface because... well good ones that don't produce noise are expensive.
I am wearing the Sony MDR-7506 headphones. I usually only wear them to track, then I use my Sennheiser HD 650 and beyer dynamic DT 770 for more critical listening. The Sony headphones just have a much smaller profile, so they don’t look as ridiculous on camera 😂
If you are using it as a USB mic, you can hit the mute button. If you are using it as an XLR mic, there actually isn't really a way to temporarily turn it off.
@@AudioHotline how do we not, in the year of our lord 2021, have an outboard XLR mute button for sale for like, $20? Someone, ban companies from keep using micro USB port.
Come on people, it's 2020. CoViD and USB-C are obligatory!
Feel better soon!
The fact that it comes with a usb c to micro usb makes me feel like they thought about doing the right thing and then just didnt lol
@@Andrew-oz6em LOL, I thought the exact same thing.

I can't believe Shure shipped a product in 2020 with micro-USB. How insane.
