  • We take a look at the D500 direct drive turbo trainer from Van Rysel. Keep training when the weather is still pants outside, ride with others from around the world, from your lounge.
    Will work with Zwift, Wahoo RGT, Onelap and other apps. How many times was ‘Rock Solid’ mentioned?

    anyone got it to work with a wahoo elemnt in the training mode (via ant+)? control of power doesn't seem to work for me in this setting, the power only drops and gets a small push every couple seconds but is never adjusted to the target power. Works fine via bt in Zwift though.

    Looks good. Higher gradient would be useful but I can find them around where I live. I have an old Cannondale System6 from 2007 that could work well with it. Rather than staying on a trainer, I currently use an old £350 Reebok. Set for 99 minutes, I do a heart attack recovery routine for warm up, then 15 minutes on the trainer, a set of kettles, pressups, skipping, or standing on one foot, 15 minutes more on trainer, carry on till run of trainer time for a 3-hour workout. That works nicely, burns plenty of calories, varies intense and level efforts, lets me work with music, and I monitor my heart with a Polar HR10 chest strap. For real riding circuits, I have a few miles long circuit up, over, and round Shooters Hill and Oxleas Wood. Age 68, I'm losing my confidence on longer rides further from home due to so many huge SUVs and pickup trucks filling up the lanes

      Thanks! If only that could happen all the time 😂The road feel is on par with the Kickr Core and feels really smooth. You are correct, the heavy flywheel gives better road feel, to a point. The D900 has a bigger flywheel than the D500. Also keep an eye out for the D100 later this year which will be the cheapest direct drive with Tacx Flow/Vortex type spec.

    Hello, I bought the D500 in March, I use it with Zwift, and the truth is that I am very happy with its behavior, only one important drawback, in mine the calibration of the potentiometer is wrong.
    Average mark in 1 hour tests about 25/30 wts less, verified with dual recording Sram Quard Dzero (I have 2 bikes with these dzero potentiometers and sram force axes).
    I did the spindown that they send several times in the onelap app and it continues to score badly....it's a lot of difference... and to do races in zwift it eliminates you.....

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did indeed, the experience I have had with different trainers is they are all different with regards to accuracy. The Kickr tended to read higher, the Van Rysel reads lower but actually sits around the same lower reading of wattage as the Neo. The Van Rysel trainer works on an algorithm and will not be as accurate as your Quarq, if it is accuracy for racing you want then maybe use your PM as the power source and the trainer as controllable? Also even though 30w is huge, remember drivetrain losses can account for at least 10w of that.

    Hello, thank you for your video, they are really rare on this home trainer! I'm really struggling to decide between this HT and Zwift's.
    One thing that bothers me with the Van Rysel's HT is the use of Onelap fit. I can't find much information about that, is it necessary to have this app to calibrate the HT ? How much does the subscription costs after the free trial ?

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi CYPPS, thanks for the questions and for watching! The Onelap fit app is made by Magene, as is the trainer. Much like other trainers, you do need to use the app to calibrate it, just to keep it as accurate as possible. A lot of users don’t bother though. As far as I am aware, Van Rysel used the Onelap platform as it is easier to adapt for their own needs, bikes, jerseys and banners etc. Onelap fit app is free but Subscription to Onelap the cycling app is £4.99 a month, but Zwift is more stable. The Zwift HUB is extremely competitive.

    • @TheDecathlonMan

      Rocker plates can help some riders as riding on a turbo does not give a true to outside riding experience, the tacx neo has built in flex/give and the kickr can have rocker feet attached. I don’t ride with a rocker plate but have my mat on thick pile carpet which gives just enough. Just my opinion, I don’t think they are worth it.

    I've just read that you are using this with the RC520. I have the same bike, but I am using it with the D100 trainer.
    My problem is when I am switching from the trainer back to the original rear wheel, my rear derailleur indexing is terribly off, by 1-2 gears. I'm guessing the reason is that the end cap on my rear wheel axle is ,,protruding" quite a bit, pushing the rear derailleur farther away from the cassette. But on the trainer, the end cap is not protruding that much (relative to the lockring, or the edge of the cassette), so the derailleur is closer.
    Have you experienced anything similar?

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately I have yet to have access to a D100 Turbo Trainer, so I cannot say I have experienced this. Do you have the older 11 speed RC520 or the 10 speed version? If 10 speed, you will need a spacer behind the cassette. If it is 11 speed, I would check that all the sprockets are seated properly, also check the adapters are correct, the RC520 has a 135mm width between dropouts. On my old Kickr I had to adjust the cable on the rear derailleur but this was only a quarter turn. All of of this assumes the derailleur or hanger has not been bent out of line.

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unless you mean, the gear you left it in does not line up, making it difficult to put it back in the frame? In this case, it can be a good idea to shift without the wheel to where the small sprocket would be, then put the chain/upper jockey wheel onto the smallest sprocket and the wheel should drop in nicely.

    • @ferencbenko3270
      @ferencbenko3270 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have left a comment yesterday, but I think it got deleted due to containing links :/
      I have the 11 speed model. I think everything is set up correctly. On the trainer I have the original microshift 11-32 cassette, and on the rear wheel I have a new 11-32 CS-R7000 shimano 105 cassette, but I think they are identical in width, and don't need any spacers. Also I guess I couldn't even fit more spacers on the freehub body due to limited space.
      I have to adjust the barrel adapter like 12 turns, and even have to readjust the limit screws. I'm thinking I must be doing something wrong, but the weird thing is, after adjusting, it works fine. I'm just having a larger gap between my cassette lockring and the edge of my dropout, like the width of a chain. This is due to my end cap on my rear wheel hub being a bit too long / protruding a bit more than what I would think is normal?
      It is strange that my axle/hub end caps (lockrings?) are not like the ones on the newer triban 520 wheel. I can't send you links here, but if you go to the hungarian decathlon site, and search for '8567472', you will see what I mean.
      So on the drive side of my wheel, the end cap is longer / protruding more than the end cap on my trainer (by ~3mms), and that is causing this misalignment. I just don't understand why I'm having these weird, seemingly uncommon caps, and why they are protruding this much / why I can't thread them in more.
      Also I don't know why the end caps have slots for a cone wrench, when even tightening them finger tight makes my wheel spin hard-ish (so I have to reverse them up just a little bit). Which is strange, because if they are not fully tightened, I guess they let some dust and dirt in.
      I took the wheel to my local decathlon workshop, and they also told me that it's a bit strange that you can't tighten the end caps all the way with your fingers, but they don't know what's the problem, or if there is a problem at all.
      I was just curious if you have ever heard any complaints about this type of end caps, or anything related to this, but this turned out rather long, I'm sorry :D

      ok, yes the 2 cassettes are pretty much the same, you will not need a spacer as it is 11 speed. You should not need to adjust it as much as you are for it to work, and the adaptors on the trainer are the correct way round? I think to help you the most we need to 'see' the issue, can you contact us on email? We can then take a look, if you can send a few pics of the bike on the trainer and the adaptors you are using? www.decathlon.co.uk/help/app/ask

      Sorry to hear that, I know the Cube 'Attain' does not fit but was not aware the C:62 is also not compatible. It should not be at a 45 degree angle, as far as I am aware only the Wahoo Kickr will allow that sort of movement for use with the Kickr climb.

      In this case I would not use it and return it for a refund, I would not risk it causing damage to either your bike or the trainer.

      @TheDecathlonMan for who do you recommand the D100? I am totally new in the virtual riding field, but I would be great to use as a training tool. On the road I don't have a power meter either so I think it might be helpful to measesure my ftp and such a things. I would rather train with it than do group rides. Thanks for your answer.

    • @TheDecathlonMan
      @TheDecathlonMan  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it will be a good choice for most people. it is closest to the Tacx Flow/Vortex in terms of performance but should be quieter as it is direct drive and more accurate, it does not have a cadence sensor if that will bother you? The main thing is you will not be bored if you use Zwift with it. If you want to improve outside riding this will do that. If you want more accurate numbers then it may be better to look at a mid range direct drive trainer.

      @@TheDecathlonMan thanks for your answer. I do have a cadence sensor so i guess i can pair with it and in that case it's a complete training tool for me

      Yes, if you have a cadence sensor already, you can pair that to any app you use and you will be set.

      Yup, just use the setting in the app you are using, in Zwift this is automatically switched on for workouts unless you turn it off using the check box.

      You don’t need zwift but it is great, it will need to be connected to another app/computer though. Onelapfit and onelap are popular apps too. Mywhoosh is currently free to use. See here for more info support.decathlon.co.uk/van-rysel-d500-d900
