If you want to have any chance of shooting enemies at all (with bows and crossbows), the "Taking aim" skill is vital, considering you actually start with ~80% accuracy at game start, and ranged weapons have large accuracy penalties on them. Considering the fact that longer range also hits your accuracy negatively, it's not even worth carrying ranged weapons if you can't/don't take that skill. Edit: also worth noting, bows become even more inacurate if the enemy is point-blank or 1 tile away.
