    While these cartridge masks are fine for 1k paints like acrylic and basecoat they offer no protection against the isocyanates found in all 2K paints like primers and clearcoats, if you use these masks for 2K paint you are seriously risking your health while you may feel fine now 20 or 30 years down the line it's possible you wont be able to walk without getting out of breath or worse. I'm just a hobby/diy painter but I spent a small fortune on air filtration so I could use an air fed mask in my diy booth. Please be careful when it comes to protecting your health. John UK

    Here’s another tip. Before you watch the whole video bouncing in the comment section real quick, sometimes people like me will leave a summary or just a quick little TLDR for you, so it saves you little bit of time. Remember time is money. You either give it away or you’re getting it back. If you’re reading this, you’re getting more back in your pocket this morning,
    TLDR just put some toilet paper in your filters before you put the cartridges in! Boom!

    is that 6001 filter a must for 2k? i have been spraying soe DIY without the 6001

    • @zXLuke4efcXz
      @zXLuke4efcXz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Officially no filter is capable of filtering the isocyanates in 2K. Really if you're doing this full time you need an air fed respirator, however if just the occasional respray then can probably get away with the 6001 and pre-filter if you have good ventilation/

    • @HowToPaintYourCar
      @HowToPaintYourCar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He said it best. You need good ventilation, but the 6001 is a good filter for paint.

  • @iironwarrior

    I have been reading so much controversy over whether the standard half mask charcoal organic filters like the one you demonstrated here is safe for use with spraying 2k paints with ISOs. I am a bit more concerned about this as I already have as ashma condition.
    Many say the only full fire safe method when painting these paints is using a Fresh Air System where you pull fresh air from a clean air source. I noticed you posted a video about 5-6 years ago where you tested one. Are you still using that setup? I found a pretty kewl cordless battery operated one from 3M, but found it really isn't recommended for painting 2k paints either since you are pulling the ISOs through the systems filter just like you would with a half mask within the contaminated environment that you are painting from. Am I just overthinking this? Just want to be safe.

    • @HowToPaintYourCar
      @HowToPaintYourCar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Man! It depends on your budget, ventilation, and health impact preference. If you’re spraying in a well ventilated area where the fumes get sucked out quickly wearing a regular mask is OK in my personal opinion. I tested some of the fresh air systems a while back and did not like the version with the hoodie. Maybe in the future I’ll try something different. Get more info at learnautobodyandpaint.com

      @@HowToPaintYourCar Thanks Tony. Perhaps if I use Harbor Freights High Velocity fan exhausting the overspray from my garage I will be safe with the half mask with organic filters to protect against the ISOs :). I didn't think you liked your fresh air system with the hoodie as I never seen any of your follow-up videos backing up that product. And in my opinion, it looked like it would be a big PITA to use having to drag 2 hoses around.

    Still can smell Bondo smell when put on my paint mask it is a full face paint mask though. What do you sand Bondo with I tried 80 grit yesterday came back today and still saw low spots and went and applied Bondo again thinking about going to 220 grit to sand it next time probably tommorow. Also can I put polyester primer over the Bondo after I sand it. I was using a small size sanding block Dura block too.

    I thing 2 sheets make it much harder to breath. For better air flow just use one ply of one sheet. replace 1 or 2 time a day. I spray kitchen and bathrooms for a living

    3M 6001 catriges do not filter isocyanates. So does nothing for 2K. Those filters are for oil paint fumes.
