@gigwalnutz1 its called scat, and although I'm not the biggest fan of it, it shows how one you are at your instrument, how you well you connect your the music in your head and heart with your fingers. Its actually quite incredible.
@awesomewelles90 Well if you read what HendrixcommaMartin actually says "Shows that he's playing what he hears" What you hear in your head doesn't mean spontaneously composed but some melody you've heard before and revisited or personified
I didn't necessarily say that it fit. I was responding to an earlier comment that said that what Andreas was playing was something he'd "heard a million times," and that because it had artificial harmonics in the intro that it wasn't a blues which someone would have heard before.
Terrific technique + good singing feeling. Love this vid' Great! Remind me of another great scatting vid': the "take five" duet with Al Jarreau and Kurt Elling Should go and have a look at it ;-)
For all those who are arguing about the harmonics he uses at the start: The harmonics are comparable to the intro Joey Defrancesco plays on his tune Blues for Bobby C. What Andreas is doing here has been done before and it's recogised as a standard technique. If you don't like the sound of it then say that but don't argue that it's musically out of place.
Hello, To play in 4 4 it is not a easy way to play this ; what i mean, if you start-ing-point 1 to a break in the end 4 some time is befor the measure when you play that mean you most be more precise to the 4 4 break and the drummer do the same some time !... But i think you play very good this version i like very much !...
Obviously he's younger than John Pizzarelli. Maybe John is one of his influences as well as George. Their styles are both fantastic. Andreas' chops are more flamboyant than John's, but John Pizzarelli is smoother in terms of execution. Just my observation. So how do we call their styles: scatting while soloing? If there isn't any, can we call it a 'Scalos'? 😊
@OliverDuarte88 Blame George benson who started this craze a long time ago...although when Goerge does it it really sounds hip...when others do it just sounds lame..to my ears!
This proves that Andreas has LISTENED to a lot of music and PRACTISED for many years. He is a genius when it comes to playing the guitar. For various reasons, I still listen to Wes when I like to know why Jazz is what it is.
Yes , sir. Good move. Reason number 1. Wes is the source. The water is pure. The flavor is exquisite. The mineral content is what your body of music needs to grow strong. All the rest, all the best, Benson, Metheney, et al went there to drink. Start with Wes, and you can't go wrong. Reason number 2. Wes' playing is accessible to the common civilian, and interesting to the seasoned aficionado and player. (As are Metheney's and Benson's musics. Hmm. Is there a pattern here for a career that is rewarding both artistically and monetarily?)
Exactly the way I like it! Traditional harmony and lines and none of those wacky reharmonisations and weird sounds. And above all played with super intention and precision. My man!
He is a spectacularly good guitarist, maybe the best I’ve heard in this style. I do not like the scat singing/unison thing, no matter how well it’s done; instead of admiring the amazing playing, it becomes a music hall turn.
Not at all. It shows versatility in applying modern concepts to traditional standards. I know you have a hard time understanding that because you are to busy criticizing others. Would you say the same thing to Miles Davis for applying multi-effects through his trumpet. You hinder and limit creativity when you do that. You should be seeking inspiration from this, not applying boundaries because you will never get where he is with that sort of thinking. Enjoy the music, don't be a critic.
@buefyYT the stu ham - style has really not much with the jaco style to do. i said that i neither liked stu's sound nor his playing here. it doesn't suit the situation. in a bebop tune you play a bebop solo, not some shitty pentatonic with a clicky chorussy sound.
man if you think that it's annoying when he skats his solo you should listen to kieth jarrett... he just babbles and squeals.... with all respect to kieth though. he's the man.
Just love Andreas's playing. Total magic.
One of the most amazing displays of guitardom I have ever seen.
scatting with the melody line is just pure awesomeness !!!!!!
Woooooow... It's amazing how he plays the guitar and at the same time he sings every single note. BRILLIANT
The rhythm is incredible. All about that bounce.
Perfect camera guy to call when you don't want anyone to steal your licks.
Camilo Velandia these are benson's licks :D yet good camera man for the aforementioned!
I've stolen some licks anyway :D
Fra Aul me too haha
more than some ahaha ;)
I have the pdf transcription
This guy is breathtaking. Bass too. And that scatting !
Fantastic as always, an Immense talent.
WOW!!!!! This guy is incredible!!!!!!!
High. Water. Mark. That is some burning playing!!
MIND BLOWING🤔🤔🤔
he's from another planet!!!
when will we ever see Andreas Öberg and Ulf Wakenius perform together ?
Astounding skills! Inspiring.
This guy is bad ass!! He's really got those Benson licks down.
amazing nuff said!
@gigwalnutz1 its called scat, and although I'm not the biggest fan of it, it shows how one you are at your instrument, how you well you connect your the music in your head and heart with your fingers. Its actually quite incredible.
GENIOUS
awesome
I love the tone he gets when playing chords. Reminds me of Kenny Burrell
@awesomewelles90 Well if you read what HendrixcommaMartin actually says
"Shows that he's playing what he hears" What you hear in your head doesn't mean spontaneously composed but some melody you've heard before and revisited or personified
wow, Andreas really do sing his stuff, cool!
@DREAUXENTERTAINMENT outside of jazz... david gilmour always did that as well

Nice Indeed!
He has an awesome tutition site too.
voila un solo qui le place définitivement dans la cour des plus grands !
Tight bebop lines and Blues !
BillyC15 was right! Thank you ...
Man! .... man ... man oh man ! This guy really burns!

Отлично!

So much Benson!
here he shows why benson is one of his idols ;)
what scale is he playing at 0:49 to 0:52??? so beautiful!!
@Steal Yo gurl t sounds like Eb Major7 arpeggio starting from D ..twice ..in different speed adding some chromatism
holy hell this guy rips
He reminds me of Bireli. They should do an album.
Time for an afternoon pick-me-up courtesy of a funky Swede playin' Bird....
doo dood odoodoododoo duduud dooo :D

But i think you play very good this version i like very much !...
i agree. its pretty standard lines and substitutions for bebop. not as modern as players like rosenwinkel or adam rogers, or Jonathan Kreisberg
so often players play fast licks that is absolute rubbish, but not this man. he is out of his mind with talent
A la George Benson. Excellent.
Holy smokes. Somewhere between Benson and Coryell in his prime.
technic silhwa?
yes its blues... blues is very broad. basically its chord progression uses I-IV-V chords.
@vithaj92 jazz blues? I'd say there is little difference. Many good alternatives to that exist;
expect more of those alternatives from Andrea.
Obviously he's younger than John Pizzarelli. Maybe John is one of his influences as well as George. Their styles are both fantastic. I have never heard billies bounce so bluesy
@CptChaos88 you mean like a jaco style? yep you know what your talking about.
that guitar he is using is same as Bruno's, am I right?
HOLY CRAP 2:44-3:00!!! O.O
Some of those killer licks are respectfully represented with adoring tribute to the grand master from whom they originally came. G.B. Nuff said.
you're fuckin creazy men, yeah!!! it's awesome!! congratulations, never give up!!!
1:28 1:45

5:10 - 5:27
what the fuck was that
if i was the other guitar player on that stage, i would quit guitar on the spot and go home
holy fuck
haha
Looks like Brian Bromberg on Bass.
Billie bounced and bounced,Ubah dubah etc.
do you need some? write them ,be a Eddie Jefferson.
the guy from metalocalypse is playing jazz now
He's Thor!
George Benson does this very good too, you should check him out!
Plutôt un clin d'œil à Benson, qui l'a fait bien plus longtemps avant.
1:24 F7
it's a benedetto guitar.
@JezenThomas it was a joke :| because all i can hear is dubadoobadubdubdub etc.
haha stu hamm is beast
@MrJhon7
papp ppappapp papapp papppaaaaap p papapppap
why is he singing his solo? lol
This proves that Andreas has LISTENED to a lot of music and PRACTISED for many years.

HE is really good that he can actually sing his melody while playing his melody right!
This guy is flat out killer in so many styles
The Swedish Benson
i'm always wondering how the other guitarist sitting there must feel , this is just tenchincal mind blowing stuff !
Exactly the way I like it! Traditional harmony and lines and none of those wacky reharmonisations and weird sounds. And above all played with super intention and precision. My man!
I have watched two gazillion guitar performances on youtube. Andreas my friend, you are up there chanelling the gods!
strong George Benson influence for sure. Sounds great
That singing actually made me very happy haha
This dude is the savior of modern jazz guitar!
Andreas Benson???
zach muth???
xasma spencer fike?.
Lol He has the same voice of that blonde guy from Dethklok xD
hes the jazz version of skwissgar
Who wouldn't be playing that good if there wasn't such a beautiful woman smiling at you all the time? :)
This is fucking insane...
Hes like Benson and Martino on steroids. I have NEVER heard any guitarist play that fluid and clean...................................and FAST.
He is a spectacularly good guitarist, maybe the best I’ve heard in this style.
I do not like the scat singing/unison thing, no matter how well it’s done; instead of admiring the amazing playing, it becomes a music hall turn.
If anything, I'm a little disappointed in the rest of the band. MORE GROOVE. still, better than I could ever do
Not at all. It shows versatility in applying modern concepts to traditional standards. I know you have a hard time understanding that because you are to busy criticizing others. Like Stu Hamm but he's out of his depth trying to solo-phrase this style of swing blues.
@buefyYT the stu ham - style has really not much with the jaco style to do. i said that i neither liked stu's sound nor his playing here. it doesn't suit the situation. in a bebop tune you play a bebop solo, not some shitty pentatonic with a clicky chorussy sound.
I'm new to this guy, he's good ! :)
Wow, I'm glad i found this guy, he's burnin' !!!
man if you think that it's annoying when he skats his solo you should listen to kieth jarrett... he just babbles and squeals.... with all respect to kieth though. he's the man.
@mohawk777us
i still don't like what he plays here. it is some pseudo-jazzy fu**ed up blues bass solo that doesn't fit the context.
@CptChaos88
So, what style SHOULD stu have played then? it's pentatonic blues, so yeah, a "shitty" pentatonic works here.
