I've never done this type of work, bought my 83 tercel with an A3-C engine for $100 (complete car). having a few hicups but i feel like i can now do this job with some confidence. thank you Robert.
note for reinstalling headgasket, i highly recommend running a 10 x 1.25 metric tap down the headbolt holes in the block and testing torque wrench for accuracy. see tercel4wd.com

Hello Robert Walker, quick question. I own a similar model and been wanting to upgrade the engine from 3a to either 2sz (Toyota yaris) or 4afe. Is it possible to fit any of these and still maintain the original 3a gearbox? If yes which one would you recommend interms of ease of installation?
Ever had trouble with the 4 bolts braking off where the intake bolts to the exhaust manifold.. Mine broke ... wondering how to fix or if it matters alot????
After manifold is removed are the broken bolts flush or sticking out. If flush there are special bits and tools for this. I usually drill a hole about 1/8" dia and tap a small screwdriver in the hole. Sometimes you can unscrew it. If that does not work i drill larger hole and try again. Some weld a lever to the bolt. Others use screw extractor.

I replaced the carburetor put suzuki maruthi 1000 cc carb in it now do i need all of these vacuum pipes
