    I see where this is going, we're going to have an ATR vs Embraer rivalry, what with Embraer currently developing a new turboprop

      Imagine if Bombardier still made Q400s!, would be 3 companies in a rivaly xD

      @@IndonesiaMajapahitNDPCA De Havilland Canada (the company that originally made the DASH-8) is also developing an electric version of the Classic DASH. So, if they managed to succeed with that, then it would be quite a competition! (And, being Canadian, I especially hope that D.H.C. will start producing the electric DASH!)

    I think ATR has done a good job with their orignal 42 and 72. I still prefer to fly regionally in India by these turboprops (But sometimes the Dash-8 Q400) in IndiGo and Alliance Air rather than the A320 and the 737 (Sometimes I fly in Embraer Erj-145 operated by Star Air) Love those turboprops!! Hope this aircraft get maximum orders.,👍👍

    I have flown twice in the ATR 72-600. It's a different kind of feeling to travel in a propeller plane. The cabin is noisier and the plane doesn't fly above 25,000 feet. It's ideal for a 1 or 1.5 hour flight.

      Depends where you fly. But here in Europe, the routes they fly are often less than 1 hour / 500 km regional routes. Even with a normal jet plane, the time to enter a holding pattern, approach and land is where a part of the bottle neck / waiting time is, and where the turboprops are not that slower than the jets. Primarily during cruise are the jets noticeably faster.
      My points is; You don't save more than 5-10 mins flying a jet compared to a turboprop on those routes.

      @peterwilhelmsson4168 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can tinker with airfoils and engines and avionics to update the 72, there's no need to spend hundreds of millions to re-invent the wheel, is there?

  • @peteregan3862
    @peteregan3862 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The Embraer approach is better as the wing box and wheel wells can be one structure, and the wing is clean. And, as reported, noise is reduced while the turboprop location does not feel threatening to passengers seated next to it.

    • @magnustan841
      @magnustan841 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But this is an EVO, Italian speak for evolution. This is targetted at existing ATR customers who want an updated design, but with familiar maintenance and operational procedures. The Embraer aircraft is probably an E175-E2 replacement for the US market, because the E175-E2 is no longer attractive due to its greater MTOW and airlines can no longer enjoy the benefits they had with the E1.

If that’s what they’re going to do with this ATR EVO, then I expect they do it for extended range or efficiency. Or it might mean that they’re just going to use the SAF not electric motors.
