i am an artist, a painter to be specific. growing up i used to do realistic paintings however my view of art aesthetics changed for the past years and i quickly fell in love with van gogh paintings. I watched the long version of this video a couple of days ago because i also love science as i love art then i saw this and man i was so inspired at his words i even shared it to my friends.
Thanks Daniel, for posting this. And thanks, Jared, for the note on Millet's Starry Night. The first I've learned of it. But in Millet's case, there's clearly nothing else the painting could have been named, other than "fuzzy trees". Also, the night sky as painted is quite realistic - with Orion in full view across the middle. An urge rendered obsolete a few decades later with the advent of photography. -Neil deGrasse Tyson, New York City
Good stuff, but Millet painted "L'Etoile Nuit" ca 1849, 40 years prior (as Starry Night was painted in 1889, not 1888): You can see it at the Yale University Art Gallery. Still, it's nice to watch deGrasse Tyson give van Gogh props!
Hate to tell you this but Mathew Brady and alike came after the Fact,Cameras of that era were super big and emulsion SLOW.I could be wrong but I'm unable to find any Battle scenes(no Gettysburg) and definitely no video.
Sounds like you are high on Vincent....I am also! Van Gogh once said,"We can not judge God from this world; it's just a study that did not come off". To me that means...God is still there and still working. Vincent did not stop painting when one of his studies did work out right....so that also means, Vincent (and I) think that God still have some good things to say and His words should be paid attention to.
Thanks to you Neil, and your never ending efforts to make us feel the universe!
Thanks Neil for continuing to inspire us. Maybe people will focus more on universe than on wars
