@soon Austin is so dysfunctional now it can't even mimic San Francisco. We used to have a version of the trolley car downtown and they got rid of them.
Boomtown is not an affectionate term. There are many ghost towns in Texas, which were once oil "boomtowns". The fact that developers won't stop building these huge buildings while businesses are moving out is a warning sign of a slowing economy if you ask me.
I’d think it be cool if they turned some empty spaces to communal studio spaces where podcasters and photographers could have studio spaces to use. But people hate the arts so… 😢
Vacancy rate is a bit lower but housing is much much more expensive there and it's much more of a boom town than dallas and houston in terms of tech startups and migrants from out of state.
Austins trying to evolve and be a city without any city infrastructure and lacks the most basic needs like public transportation and there's also a serial killer on the loosssss! a lot of folks are moving out, I will too very soon!
They need to turn them into housing. The price of housing close to DT is insane. Remote work isn't going anywhere these talking heads need to smarten up. Office space is for dinosaurs
@@nottheone582 When the renovations cost more than the building is worth after the renovations, the solution is demolition and rebuild. The only other solution is communal bathrooms for every tenant on the floor.
I mean, REALLY. Youre right. Some of them, anyways. Everyone keeps ralking about how they don't wanna see the jomeless...give thwm a buildung and make them live there lol.
Because the expenses, taxes and the crime rates are higher now.
Fun Fact, Austin is slowly turning into a Democratic S-hole.
partially thanks to the same people that moved in

Those development projects are planned and financed years in advance. It's hard to stop them without going bankrupt.

I think that ship sailed SEVERAL years ago. We could've used your voice at that time. Where were you? Where was everyone?

Not so easy to turn an office building into residential. The main problem is the plumbing
@@safeandeffectivelol when the pain of CRE gets bad enough they'll find a solution. We're obviously not there yet .

Turn it into residential properties
Just follow New York's example.....oh yeah they are!
The crash is coming you can see it in their eyes :O
It'll be cool if it happens, and they're forced to rent out office spaces as living spaces for really cheap.
They should move out of Texas.
Nah Texas is nicer than Cali and nyc

Give those vacant buildings to the homeless and migrants.
