    I fixed mine then I watched your video🤣. I "closed the main" then removed that big screw holding the cartridge, after about 3 secs my parts came out flying and water as well. Went to check on the main and it wasn't closed all the way 🤣. I had to figure out how to put everything together. As soon as I finished I started looking for videos and came across this one. Now I know I did put everything back correctly 🤣.

    i went to a local plumber shop and the old guy there had the valley cart. he was out of the rebuild kit, so he sold me a delta rebuild kit which he used many times in the past. it works fine, he also provided some good info. he said the hardest part of the job was getting the bonette nut off. he was right. he said if it is squezzed to tight it will egg shape and you'll never get it off. thanx again.

    This tutorial was a lifesaver. Great instructions throughout and attention to detail. We were reinserting the springs and gaskets and neglected to note the proper orientation. We put gaskets in first and when we tried shutting off water, the plastic shutoff plate would not engage with springs. Thanks to the vid, you showed us the error of our ways 👍🏻😅 Thank you for your rockstar plumbing expertise!

      @@ApartmentMaintenance The one thing I will say though... Judging from how mine came out and how they look on some other videos... I believe the white piece is supposed to go on the opposite end of the spring from the black rubber piece. I really doubt it even matters that much. It's just creating a smoother spot for the spring to sit on inside there. Or who knows maybe both I've seen are wrong. I'm honestly not sure.

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sc9475 I ran a property from 2008-2018 that had 204 apartments & they all had the valley tub faucet I show in the video. Over a 10 year span of me working there every single one I repaired had the plastic pieces on the end of the spring where I installed them. I just went back with what was there originally. Those faucets all had the original parts in them & that's how "Valley" installed the parts from the factory. You could have the non OEM parts which if that is the case, the cartridge will leak when you turn the water back on. I had that happen to me which is how I know this. I linked all the OEM parts in the video description to help everyone get the correct parts so they don't run into that issue. It's not the rubber washers, it's not the springs, it's not the little plastic pieces, it's the cartridge itself that is slightly shorter & it won't work. Hope that information helps out. Thanks again for watching bro 🛠️👍

    I had the problem of replacing a Valley cartridge (Danco version) but used the wrong Seats & Springs (Danco Delta version) and I got a constant drip from the showerhead. Your video helped me sort the problem out. I did find the correct Danco Valley version) at Lowes. Since there were no shut-off valves on the Valve I had to turn off the water mains a the street. I would have preferred to use the (Valley Cartridge0 but could not find it locally. Just a note you're showing the correct way to assemble the rubber seats & springs was a lifesaver. Changed the innards on my shower faucet, everything went fine. Ended up having to make a shim to place between the chromed finish cap and the plastic part that kinda sticks through. Don’t know why it ended up being like that. Thought maybe the cap wasn’t going on all the way. But anyway, it’s working smooth now with no leaks. Heck of a lot cheaper than a new faucet, probably better than a new faucet.

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Perry, glad the video helped. The reason you have a gap from the cartridge & the chrome cap is because the replacement cartridge you purchased is not a Valley replacement cartridge. Not sure what brand you got, maybe Danco from Lowes? But that's the reason why & I've dealt with that before & only bought original replacement parts going forward. You can order the factory replacement cartridge from ChicagoFaucetShoppe.com It may start leaking after using it for a while & the last thing you want is water running back behind the shower wall that you can't see. I would replace the seats & springs as well. Don't forget to grab some faucet grease for the o-rings on the cartridge, which you can get at Lowes or Home Depot in the faucet part aisle. I'll post links for the cartridge, & seats & springs below. Thanks for watching Perry & Subscribe to the channel 👍

    When you get to the part of replacing the handle, how do you secure the first handle (the one you didn't install.) I bought a kit, but the directions don't show how you secure the handle. Otherwise it just falls off. There is a threaded hole on the underside where it looks like a bolt or something should screw in to secure it. Thanks for any info. (The kit I bought only has the oval handle.)

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Same way you would install the handle I used but you are correct there is a set screw on the bottom side of that oval handle that uses an Allen key wrench to tighten it. Your video makes removing the faucet handle look so easy! We have this same one in our guest bathroom and rarely use it (maybe once per year.) Last year, a plumber came out because it had a slow drip. Then we discovered last month when we had guests again that the plumber put the handle back on upside down, and they were not able to get hot water. After closer inspection, we realized it's also missing the little screw that you loosened with the wrench in your video. There's just a hole there, but the handle is stuck on tight upside down... I'm worried about breaking something trying to remove it, and we're well past timing to get the plumber back out to fix his mistake. Any ideas?

    • @ApartmentMaintenance
      @ApartmentMaintenance  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry I missed your comment a few weeks ago, did you get it figured out? If there's not a set screw holding the handle on then it should just pull off. If it's on tight I would try a pair of pliers but it should come off fairly easy since it doesn't have the set screw. Hopefully the plumber didn't glue it on or something crazy since he probably lost the screw. Thanks for watching Jocelyn & help support the channel by subscribing 🛠️👍

    I'm about to do this repair to my only shower, it leaks from both the base of the handle and the showerhead. Unfortunately my tap water is from a well and is very hard. Everything is iron-stained including the bonnet nut and wall escutcheon. Additionally, the last time anyone touched this shower faucet for repair was 1999, so that's 25 years of iron buildup inside this faucet. Is it likely that will present a problem as I try to rebuild the faucet? Mine is the exact same as in the video.

      Yeah, I am thinking plastic on one end against valve body to keep spring from touching valve body. Dissimilar metals in contact with each other can cause what is called galvanic corrosion - more humidity (or water immersion) worse. -- Oop, I had to take apart again and noticed spring presses against plastic body -- so dissimilar metal theory out the window. Adding Silicone grease might have helped stop slow leak for my case. Wondering if grit in water can cause damage to nylon / rubber valve surfaces.. Would be nice to know how to reface nylon component..

It should of came off with a pair of 12" channel locks, but if it was me in this situation I would use a large pipe wrench like 18" or even a 24" if that's what you have on hand. I would recommend picking up some silicone faucet grease from Home Depot or Lowes & before you put the bonnet (nut) back on the faucet, apply the faucet grease to the threads on the inside of the bonnet that way next time you have to take it apart it will come off easy. I would do the same thing to the first one you did as well. You should also put faucet grease on the o-rings around the cartridge. Anytime I take apart a faucet I always grease the o-rings which will make them last longer & grease the threads so next time you or someone else takes it apart it will come off nicely. It's a good habit to do. Good luck & Thanks for watching Bob, & make sure you Subscribe to the channel & hit that thumbs up on the video! 👍

    I had the original Valley tub Faucet from the 80's that needed to be replaced. I bought the new replacement cartridge that fits the valley. After pulling out the old original cartridge I was trying to be gentle in case I needed to still use the old parts. Putting in new seats and springs then replacing the cartridge. Once I tried tightening the whole assembly I noticed the triangle shaped last plastic piece was loose and not able to tighten. I ended up using the old triangle last piece on the original. Then the original bonnet nut would tighten up fine. I noticed the original bonnet nut is missing a round tightening ring on the end and I take it this is why the loose fit on replacement parts.(I am thinking buying the new replacement bonnet ring with last adjustment ring will fix this.), Also on the seats, springs, plastic piece. goes in as follows..... first in plastic piece-spring-rubber seat. --- Everything works fine now no leaks ! So apparently it works the way he is saying, and it works the way I was saying. I've replaced some of those over 10 years ago and they are fine. So who knows ?? Either way it works 👍

      @@peterdittler7068 I will have to say the way I do it in the video is correct cause I had 200 apartments that were the original parts, and the way I do it is how they were installed from the factory. So he was saying it's backwards, but I installed them just the way they came out of the faucet from the factory. So you tell me what you think ??

    Just close main water valve on street meter and no need to remove face plate..

      If I closed the main water valve out at the street I would be shutting down 14 buildings that have a total of 200 units. I wish it could of been that convenient or I wouldn't of messed with the old shut off valves that are built into the faucet. This repair was done at a old apartment community built in 1972. Gotta love working on old apartments. Thanks for watching fix it all & Subscribe to the channel 👍

    it looks like when the stops were being turned back on for water, water came out thru them with tells me they need replacement-

      Jim White, the faucet is from 1972, all original. The packing needed tightened on the shut offs, but with age and use, it would be good to upgrade the faucet for sure. Thanks for watching Jim!! 👍Hope your Subscribed!

      @@ApartmentMaintenance I'd probably have not touched the stops, but rather shutoff the water. I'm a plumber. You're taking a chance with these old valves, sometimes they'll leak from the packing nut after you shut the water off.

      Depression Plumbing His earlier answer said turning off main would involve 14 buildings & 200 units.

    Holy s---, dont ever use the stops on a valve that old, dont ever use channel locks to take the ring off exposing the cartridge, it should be hand tight. If its not, beat the hell out of it to break up the calcium. everything else looked good.

      Wow, yeah they do leak quite a bit. I had 192 of them at my old property, so I know the feeling. Thanks for watching AoN DeimosDiety 👍
