Check out "The Pit" at Elder High School. 10,000 plus seat cement bowl stadium built by students, faculty and alumni back in the 30's. They had to stop construction during WW2 and completed it in 1946 after the war . USA TODAY listed it as one of the 10 best high school football stadiums in America. It's where Kyle Rudolph went to high school. Several rivalry games are standing room only with over 11K in the stadium. That does not include the party deck and rooftops that people watch from in the surrounding neighborhood. It's certainly an experience.

In junior high and high school the whole town showed up to support the youngsters in football and the band performance, the drill team, the cheerleaders, etc. We won District Champs every year. Two of the best years of my life were spent playing varsity high school football in my junior and senior years of high school. I even loved the practices and also the pre season two a day practices. I guess it was because I knew that I would never play college football or any other organized full contact football with helmets and pads and cleats after my high school graduation and that I would have to kiss my childhood goodbye and become an adult. It took me awhile, but I finally grew up around 40 or 41. LOL !!!!! But I still have and am blessed with some most wonderfully vivid and truly cherished memories of playing Pop Warner organized youth football and high school football as a kid from 4th grade through 12th grade. The people that I met and got to know along the way, the valuable life lessons learned and appreciated and being part of a team and something bigger than myself. Plus I truly and thoroughly enjoyed wearing my high school letterman's jacket. And I started attending my high school reunions, starting with my 20th and have always had a great time at them.

This is just a couple small high schools in the middle of nowhere Nebraska. There are high school teams down south where 10,000+ people show up every Friday night for high school football.
A big part of this culture is sports scholarships, which from what I’ve read, seems to only be a thing in America? So a lot of people outside of America might think “it’s a high school sports game big deal,” but for the players it actually is a big deal. Some of them will be able to pay for their college education with this sport. And we love to support them in that pursuit.
