  • Printing MASSIVE wargaming buildings.. how hard can it be? Using the new Anycubic Vyper, I unbox, set up, use and review this latest 3D FDM Printer. I'll be printing a giant tree top watchtower for D&D, World of Warcraft and Age of Sigmar.

    This was a great introductory video, Oliver. I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing what you do with that building in the end - FDM really shines in the hands of amazing terrain crafters like you and Luke. Cheers, and thanks again for the plug! Big hug mate

    What terrain would you like to see on the channel? I will be printing more of these buildings to use on a huge AoS/Warcry table. Quite hyped! 😀 What has your experience been with printed terrain?

      Awesome video Ollie! Seeing as I mostly play DND and MESBG, I love seeing medieval fantasy type terrain. My biggest dislike is always the very visible layer lines. And because I usually use drybrushing for my terrain, this makes it doubley visible. I tried sanding it, but with intricate bits, that doesn't always work. So I'd love to see you tackle these issues with cool Fantasy terrain bits from companies like Printable Scenery and Infinite Dimensions!

      There quite a lot of miniature STL creators, but not that many terrain designers. Danny has a lot of quality STLs, but I would suggest you to check 3DHexes. He's a AoS/Warcry player and he usually make STLs with these systems in mind.

      Great video! I print a lot of terrain myself for the Warhammer gaming group I play with and I have had a lot of great feedback! Check out warlayer terrain at warlayer.com; they have a lot of great pieces for tabletop gaming with a futuristic theme...everything from buildings to bridges, vats-and-pipe system, even a really cool train! Good terrain does take a while to print, but I find it gives a unique flair and is very satisfying knowing that I can bring that excitement for new pieces to the game!!

      A quick tip....set your printer to print overnight....once the first layer is down and set it should be fine....I have my Prusa I3 Mk3 and Creality CR6 SE running while I am at work and while sleeping....it is a great way to maximize print time for large projects!

    I started a print yesterday morning, it finished at midnight, i set another one at midnight that was finished this morning. and started one about 30 min ago. I should be able to glue the 3 parts together and prime it tonight. Airbrush it tomorrow and have a large frigate ship for my players on monday when they hit the high seas. Pretty nuts how far this tech has come.

    Personally I find FDM printing a lot more fun than resin. It's easy to clean up after fails, no mess and little or no post-processing. You can't argue with the quality of resin, but to me it's more of a chore compared to FDM printing, which is actually a fun process.

    • @BroadswordWargaming

      Me too, I didn't enjoy resin printing (although a wash and cure might make it a little better) much.
      I found this to be easy, clean and simple. It was just plug and print! 😀
      Resin definitely looks better, but this is just so easy.. and im sure with some tweaking, I can improve on the prints.

    I can see pros FDM printers have over resin,but I care about the end product far more than the process itself because I paint models and terrain for display,so the better they look the more happy I'll be whenever I look at them on their display shelf. Since I don't play warhammer myself I use terrain as part of the presentation and I want all of it to look as good as possible.
    If that means having one kinda smelly room in the house and sometimes having to clean up then that's okay.

    If time is not pressing, print smaller layer heights. I imagine your vyper came with a 0.4mm nozzle, which is a fine mid sized universal nozzle size, but if you change it for a 0.2mm nozzle, you can easily print at 0.05mm layers, and with some fine tuning you can print at 0.03mm layers. It takes a billion years to print at those heights, but you can get resin like quality out of an fdm printer.

    • @EternalQuestion
      @EternalQuestion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FDM printers are definitely more of a hobby in themselves. I've dismantled mine countless times, replaced most of the key components at least once and installed a ton of upgrades and modifications. If you enjoy tinkering with machines like I do, that's not a problem. But if you just want a tool that's easy to use, budget FDM probably isn't for you.

    • @JPWestmas
      @JPWestmas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EternalQuestion Agreed. I find FDM printing rewarding especially with higher quality filaments and there are ways to smooth them, make them tougher and make certain types of filaments hold up to heat well. But yeah, like I said the amount of moving parts that can wear out make the FDM game a chore/ hobby. The lcd/ sla printers out there now make a much nicer print and has far fewer moving parts but I find the resin to be expensive, espeically the less brittle/ touger resins. Overall thought I find the resin printing to be a more fun experience after I understand how to make things less messy with the resin pouring and cleaning etc.
